Yet another problem with mumble!

Good morning all!

I'm having a problem with mumble for PR. I've installed it when I downloaded 0.95 according to the numerous threads on mumble in the General Discussion board, and i'm still having trouble.

As far as i can tell, i've configured the whole thing correctly, joined the server and can talk in it when i have Mumble as the selected window (as in, i'm on my desktop and i can see the mumble channel, and when i press my Local Chat key, which i've set to be 'V', i can see the speaker icon change and people can hear me). However, as soon as i Alt-Tab back into PR, my local chat button doesn't seem to work and no one can hear me. I know i'm not confusing my VoIP key with my local chat because i changed that to H and still had the same problem.

At the same time, while no-one can hear me, i can hear EVERYONE on the same team, regardless of position. Someone can be on the other side of the map and i will still hear them. I think i can also hear the SL chat, but i'm not sure, but i know i'm definately not in the SL chat room, or using the SL Chat button.

Here's the order in which i do things with regards to PR and Mumble, just incase i've been a complete idiot and missed something out:

1. Open mumble and log into the basic PR server (where you are deafened and muted and can't change until you go into a server).
2. Open PR
3. Find a server and go online to it
4. Wait until i'm in the server and then find out which team is which for mumble
5. Alt-Tab out of PR and go straight into mumble.
6. Find the corresponding mumble server and join the correct team
7. Alt-tab back into PR and try and use mumble - no-one can hear me here, but i can hear everyone.
8. Alt-tab back out to mumble and try and use the local chat button. Here, people can hear me and i can hear everyone.
9. Alt-tab back into PR and try local chat again. Same problem.

I'm at a loss for ideas here, i've uninstalled and re-installed mumble twice and nothing seems to have changed. I've ticked and unticked the overlay buttons, i've chosen the default microphone device and the actual microphone device, and i've suppressed and unsuppressed the local chat buttons, and all of these seem to have done nothing.

Any chance someone can help me?

Ta!

Been searching around the forums and the mumble forums for most of the day and found a couple of potential fixes but unfortunately they don't work. Here's what i've tried:

Allowing overlay - Overlay doesn't even come up on the game screen/HUD, so i can't tell whether or not i'm transmitting in game

Right click on speaker icon next to the time in your task bar, then click on recording devices, double click your recording device and deselect 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' in the 'Advanced' tab. Do the same with the speaker - No change to problem.

Re-assigning the transmit key and back again. - once again, no change.

I've even tried minimising mumble to the tray, and i've tried keeping it as an active window (where you can still see it on the desktop but it's not selected) and nothing's changed.

The only other bit of information i can give if i'm not being clear enough is that from what i can tell, when you join the channel you are MEANT to hear everyone in game until you actually spawn in the game, then the positional audio kicks in. The thing is, when i spawn in-game i still hear everyone in the channel, and no-one can hear me because its as if my PTT button doesn't work when i have the game open.

From what I read you are doing everything correct so far and understood the basic concepts of prmumble and the official PR server.
Start PRMumble then PR. This order should enable you to get Overlay working.

First off: make sure you are running PR and PRMumble as administrator.

Since Overlay is not working I suggest running PR in windowed mode so you can check if your Speaker icon in mumble is lighting up. (pr.exe +fullscreen 0)
Green Speaker = Overlay: bright white = transmitting using local speech
Red Speaker = Overlay: red = transmitting using SL-Radio

Mumble usually takes precedence when it comes to key input. So it should register the key before BF2 does. Checking the "surpress" box will stop the key from being relayed to BF2 as well and should not change whether or not PRMumble is even picking it up.

Are you using other special keyboard loggers? do you have a G-Keyboard? Check if their settings aren't messing with your key-binds.

Thanks for the reply! I can't try these out tonight but as soon as I'm able to I'll try them out and check back.

Since my account is an administrator one on my own laptop, and i've this one from another one to get by the thing in windows where sometimes your administrator account that you set up first time isn't actually an admin, so i'm just assuming that i am... I'll give it a right clickety click and see what's what.

With regards to the speakers, are the red and green speakers i'm looking for in the mumble window, and not the one on the bottom right of the BF2 HUD?

I'm not using anything special with regards to keyboards... if it's needed though i'm using a Logitec MK250 wireless one with mouse on my laptop. Can't see how this would mess with anything though...

Even though your account has admin privileges this doesnt mean that applications are run with admin privileges. I guess its some kind of security concept. Unless you specifically run as admin the process will not be "elevated" (UAC Processes and Interactions)

Yes, I am talking about the speaker icon inside the grey mumble GUI. Not the BF2-VOIP-Speaker icons.

Roger that, i'll try these out now

RobsEDIT: Ok, i simply tried running it as an administrator and i'm pretty sure it worked first time, so happy days! If its not sorted i'll post again

Many thanks!
