Upgrading PC, but of course, i wouldn't be British if i tried to get away with spending as little as possible!

Firstly, i want to upgrade from an Athlon 635 X4 processor, to a Phenom II 975 X4 140W EDITION. I am getting a 1tb HDD, two more vans, Thermalright Silver Arrow CPU Cooler.

I currently have these specs : "Titan Krypt" AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.00GHz Quad Core DDR3 System []

600w power supply is what i am worried about, please help?! CAN I RUN IT?!

Are you getting a gpu with this setup? or which one out of the "choice" Because with 0 graphics card, that PSU will easily do the job..

For maths sake, the TDP(thermal design power) on the one already in the system is 95W and the one you have chosen is 140W. So an increase of 55W, which will most likely mean you wont be able to overclock at all =]. Also how are you going to change the processor and what're you doing with the old one :S

Possibly this would be more suitible (to not cause a bottleneck from the GPU side of things) also same TDP.

I got a 5770 gtx card. It does the job, at the moment, processor power is letting me down, so i will be getting that processor, just wondering if i "HAD" to upgrade the power supply.

Won't be doing any overclocking!

All the old gear will go up on e bay me thinks, or to a lucky friend!

old nvidia card or are you getting your gtx's mixed up :S

Also consider getting a bigger base model =]
such as :
The irushpro PC @ Novatech
comes with i5-2400 and a new AMD 5770 =]

Or possibly build from the ground up, which will generally be cheaper =]

But in answer to your original question, 600W will be fine, even with an AMD 5770 gpu. (If its Nvidia, you will definitely be let down by the GPU... te 5xxx series is olddddd :P )

Its the AMD lol. So my total spec will be ;
  • AMD Phenom II Quad Core 975 Black Edition "140W Edition" 3.60GHz
  • Thermalright Silver Arrow CPU Cooler
  • Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
  • Asus M4A78LT-M 760G (AM3) Motherboard
  • Corsair Dominator 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9
  • Seagate Barracuda 500gb 6GB/s SATA-II 16MB Cache
  • OCZ 600w StealthXStream II
  • OcUK 22x DVD?RW SATA ReWriter
  • Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024mb
Will that run?! The ones that are going to be new are the 1TB HDD, CPU, and the CPU cooler.

Old parts that it had was an AMD athlon X4, stock AMD cpu cooler.

If you are using a 64bit OS I highly recommend more than 4GB of RAM.

nvm.. don't think you plan on upgrading RAM.

I believe it would work, however I would ask why your going to use such an overpowerd CPU with that GPU? You could stick with the original, see how it copes (of which it will do more than enough) and upgrade if needed...

CPU comes first, waiting for the ATI market to go down a bit for a new GPU, 5770 does its job at the moment.

Fair enough, Id wait till the 3rd quarter of this year, new series coming out (32nm process) will be a damn sight faster than the current gen(40nm)
