As it was told by Mikheil Kalashnikov: "it's not that difficult to make complicated weapon, but it's hard to make simple and effective one".
This could be said about all his legacy: from early models of his machine-pistol, which met heavy criticism from MoD but later evolved into legendary AK-47, to SVD, inspired by AK mechanics.
And of course about his death-dealing beast, PKM.
Despite many excellent qualities, AK-47's supremacy on the battlefield was always argueble because of questionable ergonomics and low efficiency at long ranges (mostly because it was designed for different purpose). PKM with it's combination of raw firepower, combat weight and durability is still out of reach.
Sure, machine guns like FN MAG have good publicity, fancy rails everywhere, OMG tactical stuff for tactical stuff for tactical stuff, but nothing says "I'll skin your *** raw" like this good Soviet piece of heavy metal.
Based on elements of AK, this bad boy is always ready to rock with his 200 7.62x54mm friends at 650 rounds per minute speed. And thing's weight is just 7.5 kg so you can make many, many people happy. Basically, it is everything you could wish from AK's bigger brother - it has heavier barrel, higher caliber and ammo capacity for true trigger-happy feeling.
Now, the dog of war, the hellraiser, the troublemaker, the showstopper, the jawdropper is about to be unleashed with new model and textures by PR team.
Lead will fly and heads will roll.
