Question: mortar round collisions with structures.

I was on UKWF on Sunday as the non-Chinese faction (USMC, US Army, I cannot remember) and was in a squad with BostonBob. Hubadonical asked for mortars and since Bob's squad was defending we built them and started sending rounds down range to the Temple across the river. Bob built the mortars under a roof structure. I asked for confirmation via chat if the rounds were actually hitting. Hubadonical kept typing in team chat for mortars even though we had fired at least 15 rounds.

Bob seemed pretty convinced that the rounds would not be stopped by the roof above the mortars.

My question is whether the roof would stop the mortars or not? There was no visual or audio clue that the mortars were hitting the roof above.

Thanks.

i once build are mortar where the barrel was 2-4 inches from the roof = the mortar fire is dropped above where it is projected to fall not like a "grenade launcher" where you can see the projectile

@ xambone: It sounds like you are confirming that it is possible to build mortars under a structure and that the rounds fired will reach the target anyway, but I am not sure I understand what you are writing.

Does anyone else have any experience with this?

If this is indeed possible then it is an exploit/bug and should be fixed if possible.

On a local server we messed around for a while, and in the end i stood on top of a friendly mortar. i died when it fired. So if there is no building collision but it collides with player, would that not mean it wont detonate on top of buildings rather inside?

'Limeni[BiH wrote:;1570100']Yes, I saw this on a training match Balkan vs. France. Balkan team build a mortars inside of a hangar on docks (Mutrah...) I have a battle recorder demo of that.
Limeni, I am assuming that you have confirmation then of the rounds actually arriving at target then too. The mortars that we were firing on the Quay River map were also under a similar roof made of thin metal.

I've seen them built inside the bunkers on Kashan and I've heard rumors that helos have been knocked down by falling mortar rounds so the collision must start after the round is fired, although getting killed standing on top of a mortar seems to oppose that.

You can build them inside structures and they work. It's going to be fixed though AFAIK.

On many servers it is considered glitching.

C9 Rule Addendum:

Mortars must not be built in a location where the fired shells will pass through buildings, textures, or any other static objects on the map.
Exception: Mortars may be built in a forest, as long as the foliage is not too thick where the shell would not reasonably be able to be fired without impacting a tree. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
FOBs may be built indoors (Ex. Kashan Bunkers), as long as the placement of the bunker will not impede access to the building.
Since there is not a ticket pool, punishments will be either a reduction in tickets for the upcoming match or a match suspension for the player.

I agree. It is a glitch. Hopefully it is fixed in a new patch or release. Inside a structure they are too protected and not as suceptible to enemy mortars or bombs.

thanks for the respones.
