[?] Model Inquiry

In my free time I explored the static archive within the editor and started placing one of everything down on a flat map just to get a feel for all of the static contents available.
I know Rhino has an extensive list of items that should not be used and that certain items are needing to be updated, removed or replaced.
I found a lot of items that Were Not on the 'Do Not Use' list that all started with the prefix EOD_ The static set looks like it's vietnamese to me and I have never seen them in game on PR.
Can someone explain to me where these statics originated, how they were used and what if any purpose do they have currently as for potential uses. Are they retired? Could they be used for the BF2

RV maps?
Thanks!!

Ive been told before that the EOD statics are not very good to use.
Some of the textures are pretty bad, there are no lightmap samples for some of them. Each static aparenty has its own texture, meaning that people will need to load each texture for each static rather than just 1 shared texture. This isnt very good for people without much RAM.
Some of them you could probably use but I from what I was told, you should avoid using them altogether.

EOD = Eve of Destruction mod, a vietnam war modification for BF2 that is also a BSS mod.
There are a few statics should also be on the list. My internet is so aweful atm so I cant play, so I might update the list a bit.
the EOD mod is very good, but the statics in the files have a few problems with them, so I wouldn't use them.

I'd like to try to get ahold of some Autodesk software and I'm willing to purchase it.
I want to say that I've read PR uses 3DSM version 9. Is this accurate?
Can anyone specify where I can get the PR appropriate version 3DS online in the US?
Also I'm currently running Win 7 64bit, will this cause any trouble running a dated version of 3DS?

To get Autodesk software as old as max9 is absolutely insane considering that you would only be using it for battlefield 2 which is such an old engine. It is in no ways to disquarage you, but 3dsmax is easily some 300$ and that is if you are a student.

I can understand that. I have been looking around online and it doesn't seem like it is even available anywhere. I will have to procure alternative means of attaining it.

You can indeed, here's a
thread about it.
It's limited to 3DS Max 2010 though, and I'm not sure about the issues that might arise when opening models made in max 9 in max 2010.

There is no issues opening a max9 file in max10, there is however problems the other way around which any competent modeller can easily fix, so not really an issue anymore as long as you have somebody that can export it from max9. Sadly nobody has fixed a bf2exporter for max10 even though it would be quite easy i am afraid.

Motherdear are you talking about Max 2010 or "Max 10"?
History of 3ds Max
"Max 10" (if you're counting from Max 9) is actually called 'Max 2008', 'Max 2010' would be "Max 12"

I would be talking about max 2010 since the former naming convention was discontinued.
