Smoke makes me lag?

I searched and didn't find anything relevant to this problem, but sorry if I missed anything.

This just started when I put in my new graphics card, never happened on my old one (Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS , upgraded from an Nvidia GeForce 6600)

For some reason when I zoom into smoke (binocs, etc) or if I am walking through / near smoke, I get tons of lag and my fps drops. I don't know why, I've tried lowering my effects settings, didn't help much (unless smoke is considered some other setting, idk) if anyone has any advice it is welcome

Thanks :D

Make sure you have the newest driver for the new graphic card.

So do you have the newest driver?

Other then that you could check if your new graphics card has a different amount of memory. Please then tell me the memory of the old graphics card and the memory of the old one. And additionally please your ram size used on your computer and if you have the 64 or 32 version.

yeah maybe you should update to a different one. Seems like it just is a performance issue then.

Certain cards DESPISE smoke. Make sure you're running Anti-Aliasing off. That'll really help... >.> ESPECIALLY with smoke.
