The manual doesn't teach you how to play (contrary to popular belief), it provides no tactics, only facts on buttons, kits and vehicles.

There are players who read the manual and are terrible, and there are players who didn't but are awesome.

I read the whole thing back in 0.6, but for the newer versions I didn't bother. CSB's and the intel system on Insurgency just came naturally.

So sick of newbs asking how to request a pilot/sniper kit and shit.. /rage.

Yesterday there was this guy in PRTA (yes, using Mumble) asking me where the cache was...apparently he didn't know what the squares were all about in the map but knew about the caches. I found the whole thing weird as the cache itself was 50 m far and exposed. I had to make him follow me...

The very least people should try to understand what is the main concept of the game.

Having said this I will continue to help and guide newbies but alot of trouble could be spared if they read for 5 minutes before jumping into a server.

I only learned the basics of kit requesting and game modes in the manual. Everything else was taught to me by friendly players. I learned to fly on an empty server.

I can't say that I disagree about the manual being a good first step for newbies.
But when I started playing, I had that attitude of "a manual is for pussies", as I never read
the manual of any other game. I learned everything through playing it.
But I think it should be noted that I used to play vanilla as realistically as possible and wasn't
a random raging, bouncing, nade spamming, dolphin diving vanilla noob when I started playing PR.

I learned by being patient and being clear with my fellow players that I was new. The fact that most people were helpful and friendly kept me around. Oh I remember that the first time I flew a helicopter was on battlearena on Al Basrah back in the day. I only flew because the SL in the field absolutely needed a chopper that instance. He talked me through the flight and it worked.

The fact that you're annoyed by newbies is a bad thing in my opinion, as there were people putting up with you at some point.

I don't hate noobs, I hate the ones that say 'but a manual, cbf reading that lol'

or

'dude, ill just learn how to play myself, i'll be fine'

I read the manual every single release.
Just to get to know ANYTHING about that current version.

I've also been playing PR since 0.2 when it was still a Minimod.

If you havn't read the manual, and you are bored. You should give it a try.

The first time I did read the manual was at 0.6 I think. I had been playing PR for a few years already, but still. When I did read the manual It still made me think ''Hmm, well I didn't know that.'' Which I never expected.

I know I don't make sence at all right now, but I'm drunk as hell.. Hope you get my point :D

Edit: Oh and I agree on everything Dtacs has said.

well i also play since ~0.25 and I only read the manual once, when I first knew about it. I wanted to make sure that I didnt miss anything during all those years playing. Since I always read the changelog of a new release I dont really have to read the manual again and again, but if start to play PR now or if you had a long break from it I would recommend reading it, cause there are so many changes in every single release....

I read the manual about 4 months after I started playing properly.

I'm sure my PRT squad loved me :p

Stuff like this is however for most part is completely useless in bf2. (ignoring the fact that it is already irreverent as it is designed for Arma)

You'll never know such things as the appearing of magical crate on ground near you when parajumping from trans chopper (I guess you need to have certain kits and number of people jumping with you).

Reading the manual is obligatory if you haven't played anything from the BF franchise. I had not. Manual explains basic things that would piss off people if asked ingame.

i started playing in .75, but i didnt read the manual untill .85. instead, i went on a "wiki spree", going into the about section and clicking on every link i could find. i have not read the manual since. i figure that as much as i read about the new features on the forums, by the time they come out i already know how to use them.

none of the newbies know that RTFM means. instead, the response to "how do i request the pilot kit?" should be "if you have to ask, then you dont need to use it."
