I recently got the BF complete edition of steam to play PR and so far have been unable to get it to run. From other old steam related threads in this forum I had thought that v9.0+ versions of PR will be able to run with steam

what happens is when I run Pr.exe I see the splash screen then after a few seconds and a small steam window flash then nothing happens(ive waited a good 20 minutes just in case) . In the task manager BF2.exe and pr.exe are both running and I can terminate them with no errors, and no error log.

also probly worth noting, after verifying that BF2 works after steam reinstall, after installing PR and trying to run it, it breaks vanilla BF2 and does the same thing

I have tried:
Running in XP compatibility mode
running as admin (even though i'm the only user)
tried using the auto hotkey script with no luck
tried using the EA download bf2.exe someone provided in a thread
reinstalling PR and BF2

system specs:

Vista 32bit sp2
Intel Core2Quad 6600
2x Geforce 8800 SLI with updated driver (running 2 screens if it matters)
4gb DDR3 RAM

Try running it in windowed mode:
Right click on the Project Reality icon.
Find the line called "Target".
Write "C:\...\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1024 +szy 768".
This way you might get an error-message. Please post the error you get here.

I don't really know that much about Steams version of Battlefield 2. Do you have to install the patches yourself?

If yes:
Install Battlefield 2, make sure it's running properly.
Install Patch v1.41, make sure it's running properly.
Install Patch v1.50, make sure it's running properly.
Install Project Reality (1, 2 and 3).
Reboot computer.
I am aware that you have tried to reinstall it, I'm just making sure you haven't forgot anything.

If no:
I have no clue.

thanks for the reply, steam automatically updates to v1.5 so that hopefully should never be a problem with steam games.

I tried what you suggested and didnt get the result i expected.

"D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1024 +szy 768".

with task manager open, the splash screen lasted a little longer (around 40 seconds) then pr.exe terminates without ever seeing BF2.exe

Check the 'start in' window below the 'target' window.
You should see something like:
"D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield 2\mods\pr"

bit of an update, I reinstalled everything yet again, including punkbuster/directx/.net ect and managed to figure out that PR was doing something to punkbuster while installing, after removing PB and reinstalling the game works but I now get the following error on startup:

"Error detected: Default controls restored. Please make sure to re-edit your controls if needed from the project reality menu"

I had almost the same problem. But on Wind7

I figured out (in the Logfile placed on the MOD Folder where BF2 is installed).
There was written, that he can not finde my profile under B:/Documents/USER/Battlefield 2/Default

Then i have started BF2, and after it PR, then it has worked for me. Some times it has Problems restoring the Profile. For me it worked when i have deleted the Docuemts/Battlefield 2 Folder.
