Alt-Tabbed to desktop

I'm having this issue at any game I play, no matter if it's demanding or not. I just get alt-tabbed to desktop out of the blue, then just click on the window of the game I'm playing and it goes back to normal. Not much hassle, but occasionally it occurs in fucked up situations.

I don't remember being like this when I bought the PC, but this is definitely present since September of last year. Since then I even formatted like a couple of months ago but the same issue maintains.

I googled for this problem hoping to be fairly simple to solve...but as you may guessed, nothing.

I'm not sure what could cause this for you, but it happens for me sometimes when programs running in the background such as anti-virus programs runs updates, or if someone hangs up the call on skype.

Other reasons I could think of would be that little box on the taskbar next to the clock which minimize everything and shows you your desktop.

I'm not completly sure if it is eigher of those reasons, but it's worth a check :)

Thanks Carbo, but I am running Game Booster when playing PR so all the unneeded applications are closed. As for that little box to the bottom right, I doubt it. Many times it happened with my cursor not even close to it.

Thanks for the help though. ; )

Bumping this. With PR I resigned since it's not causing much harm, but with Rome:TW it's getting out of control. After the 5th time or so, the game crashes.

I terminated all functions from windows updates program, all the unnecessary apps and it keeps going. More frequent in some games than others.

Any clue?

You could download something like HiJackThis and just run a analysis of your system, we need to know what programs you got running in the background to even make a guess as to what is causing this.

Also give us inf0 on your system and OS:
and which antivirus/firewall etc programs you have running.

things to try:
disable hibernate
disable screensaver
right click the System Icons and make sure NOTHING can give a pop up notification
disable firewall (or put into game mode)
disable antivirus
disable any overlays, such as USB keyboard and sound volume overlays
disable Xfire/TS/etc overlays

right, so that's why a hijackthis log showing all your running processes would make this easier to diagnose,

How do I generate a log file?
If you have not already done so download and install HijackThis:
Installer | Executable
Once installed open HijackThis by clicking Start > Programs > HijackThis and click the button labeled "Do a system scan only"

Click the scan button in the lower left hand corner of the interface and HijackThis will quickly scan your system.

Once the scan is complete the scan button will now read "save log". Click this button to save the log file to your PC. Once you select where you would like to save the file it will open in your systems default text editor. Typically this application is Notepad.

How do I generate a startup list log file?
Open HijackThis by clicking Start > Program Files > HijackThis > HijackThis.exe

Click the "Open the Misc Tools section" button

Click the "Generate StartupList log" button and a warning box will appear.

Once you click ok to this warning the log will open in your systems default text editor.

What can I do with a HijackThis log file?
Once you have generated a log you can analyze the results to identify what settings have been made by malware. The web offers a wealth of resources outside of TrendSecure that can help you interpret your log file results and help you manually clean your system of malware.

A common practice is for a novice user to generate a log file and provide the log file generated on their PC to a forum where malware experts provide information how to clean up the infection.

Use the Analyze This link to find forums that provide assistance with HijackThis log files.
If you post the log here we might be able to help you better

you can try this:
1. Click START–>RUN and type REGEDIT. Click OK.

2. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
then Control Panel
then Desktop

3. Change the DWORD value for ForegroundLockTimeout to 00030d40
^Those are all number Zero (0) above.

Thank you, very appreciated. I will get into this as soon as I have some time available in the next couple of days.

After I reported this issue it got somewhat more stable but I spent most of my time until now in a borrowed PC. Now that I'm getting back on using this as my primary one, this issue is still there and more annoying than ever. I can't play a single game without alt-tabbing me randomly.

I'm running Windows 7 32-bit and I've tried messing with msconfig by doing a clean boot (both non-microsoft startup and services) experimentation with no desired results. I've also tried your suggestion on the value for ForegroundLockTimeout.

I've downloaded Hijackthis and uploaded a log for you to take a look at. CLICK HERE

I've also found out that a friend of mine has this issues as well. The only thing I found that we have in common - and that I should of mentioned earlier - is that we both have ilegal copies of Windows 7 32-bit together with a few notifications that recognize it as such (like in the bottom right corner in Desktop and the occasional pop up balloon). I'm aware how bad is to expose such a thing publicly but if that indeed is the problem then it would be good to know as well as seeking a remedy for such.

I've fixed the issue and it was indeed Windows not genuine notifications giving me a hard time. If anyone is facing the same issue (either having a genuine or non genuine copy), let me know and I will link you with an easy process - a legal one, mind you.
