A Great Idea!!! Atleast I Think So...

Okay I'm not sure if this is possible with the BF2 engine... But heres an idea that could help imerse a player into the game like you wouldn't belive. Say you were talking to one of the guys in your squad, and he was on the other side of town, all of a sudden he comes under fire. What if you could hear the gunshots, grenades going off, etc. that are being fired at your buddies position through the ear piece in the mic. And if the guy your talking to is hit, you would hear him groan or yell or something like that. It would be like real life almost. If any of you have ever watched WW2 movies, etc. There's always that part where the commader is talking to his squad through his communication radio...
Commander- "Bravo"
Bravo-"Yeah"
C-"We have a new objective for you."
B-"One second sir, somebody is coming."
All of a sudden the Commander hears gunshots and yelling through the radio...
C-"Bravo you there? Bravo report in, Bravo!!!"
Imagine if PR could incorporate this type of realism in the mod, it would great, it would be so realistic, and really immerse the player into the game.
Well what do you think?

Good idea, but I'm not sure how it would go in battle. Having an open mic could lead me to commit mass friendly fire if I was Squad leader.
Having said that, some indication that his squad is getting attacked could be a good thing to work into the game.

*shakes head*
Obviously my sense of humour is too subtle for some people. I was merely saying that knowing the standard of public servers, there would be several idiots out there that would chat-spam the VOIP.

I like the idea. I don't know if the game allows for this kind modification. At the very least, perhaps the standard voice clips can be re-recorded for our mod. Something to consider.

I think open mikes like that wouldnt be good, way too much background noise and echoing. I think it would just be better to have cooler radio commands in game (redo the sounds, add background noise). Like when you lose a point, it sounds like gunfire an guys dying in the background, when you see a jet , in the middle of the radio call you get the soniic boom....stuff like that.

I seem to have miss lead you guys, it wouldnt be open mics, say someone gets on their mic and is talking, then he comes under fire, you'll hear the fire, etc. But as soon as he's done talking and releases the talk button you wont hear the fire, etc. anymore. So whoever is using the mic at the time, you'll hear backgorund noises at their position well they're talking. If no one is using the mic, then there will be no background noises coming through your headset.

It's time for an example, lets say your in a squad of 3 people... Player 1 in the squad is using the mic to talk to player 2 & 3, all of a sudden well player 1 is talking he stumbles into an ambush and shooting breaks out, if player 1 continues to talk on the mic during the ambush, player 2 & 3 will not only hear player 1 talking through their headsets, they will also hear the gun shots, etc. going off as a background sound in their headsets. Then player 1 finally releases the talk button, since player 1 is no longer using the mic, player 2 & 3 can no longer hear background noises of where player 1 is.
So lets say im player 2, and player 1 is talking to the guys in his squad(me and player 3) Once the shooting starts, I can hear firing going on in the background well Player 1 is talking to me and Player 3. Once Player 1 releases the talk button and the mic is open for use, I can no longer hear Player 1 and what is going on where he is because he is no longer using the mic.
IRT to Solo, If i was talking, and firing was going on at my position the people Im talking to can hear through their headsets the firing in the background well im talking to them.
Hope that helps.

You would be speaking of something like situational awareness, where (just like if your on the phone with someone) you can hear all the stuff going on in the background if it is loud enough...
Thing with this is that your dealing with about 3-4 audio channels running at once... which means that you may have so much audio coming in that it will just osund like a garbled mess.
1. You have enviornment audio from what is going on around you.
2. You have voice audio from your buddy on the mic (and his enviornment audio [3.])
4. And then you may even have audio coming in from another buddy (who also has an enviornment audio input [5]) or maybe the commander who is trying to give you directions/orders.
It may be a bit much to hope for, and we have looked at the possibilities with this already, but we will seriously be looking into how many audio channels will work while still providing people with a desired effect; otherwise it may just get too messy and we may have to stick with some other possibilities we've come up with.

Thats all I would really want, loud sounds near his position, if you were to include ever single sound around his position(footsteps, etc...) Then yes, it probably would sound horrible.

So, somehow make it when you are talking on the mike, you hear the vioce of the guy talking, and all the noises the game is making for that guy...
if it could work, itd be good. but we have absoutley no idea (well maybe we do now, mod day) how moddable the voip is. cant compare it to 42...i have no idea how you would do that...

another idee:
when you speak trough the mic people neer you should be able to hear you speak (enemy's, friendly's with no radio

) so why not make a 2 "meter" circle in wich anybody would hear you talk .... nice for finding the commander on the map or a scout or maybe that hard to get sniper....
that would be great

Make it so they can only hear the person if they are talking, if the person is listening, then they cant hear it, Call Of Duty has a similar way of play.

No, i ment only your only talking can be heard...since you have an headset.
Maybe if you include radio's on the map or something like that then there should be a function like that.

how about this, i under stand your trying to get a real feel but for a diffrent look how about when a squad gets under fire or giving fire(warning only once or somthing like that) the Commander gets a blimp stating they are under fire so he knows where to zoom in, it would be alot easyer then having 5 squad leaders saying there under fire.
i know tac what your saying that would be pretty awsome though but if some1 was trying to talk through a fire fight it would be pretty hard to under stand them. but i like the idea non the less

yeah, it'd be hard to understand. but hey, that's reality, right? and that's what were here for, right?
