[Texture] New Canadian skins/kits [WIP]

I am currently working on the Canadian soldiers models.

Firstly I will re-skining the models with higher resolution skins and secondly I would like to create custom geometries for the kits.

Since I don't have 3D max or modeling skills I decided to base my work on the current US army models because Canadian equipment resembles the US kits.

Anyways... I am looking for someone to do some small model edits for me. Basically mixing kits to get the right load out.

1) Replace AT4 by the M72A6 LAW (available in kits IDF LAT kit)
2) Replace the TOW by a ERYX tube (in the weapon model HAT kit)
3) Replace the US helmets by USMC helmets (they look more like the CF helmets)

If anyone can help me out to makes theses changes I would be very great-full.

Also, I want to re-name my files and put them in the proper folders, but I can't find how to do this, can someone help or give me a link to a tutorial?

Finally, some candy the new skins I was talking about!

Cheers,

Nix

Looking good, I like a lot the one on the far right :P

For the kits, as I said in the PM, I'll do the needed changes when I'm done with written exams. ;)

hmm, this is indeed better, a lot more detail really.
it's great what you did with those faces, the guy on the far right is simply awesome and the fellow with the sideburns (second from the left) looks like me :p

Cool thing bro. I suggest you take some stuff from the german skins too, they have some nice stuff similar to the Canadians.

I thought the german kitgeoms werely mainly made out of us army geom material?

Thanks guys,

@ [R-DEV]Hauteclocque : Thanks mate, just wanted to see if you were my only hope of completing the project! ;)

@ Wakain : Both of the far sides are some custom faces I made; will do more since I would like to ditch the vanilla ones!

@ ubermensche : Wakain is right, except for the crewman kit and some custom weapons, all the rest of the geometries are based on the US Army kit.

Quick question to the DEVs:

1) Anyone has the occlusion maps for the US Kits? Would be much appreciated if you could e-mail them to me!

2) Is there a way to see the kit on the player model with BFmeshView 2.0?

3) Why dose my mesh don't load properly when I change the skin paths?

Cheers,

Nix

looks good, but i think the colors need a bit of tweaking (the current skins get them pretty good i think):

http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/_photos/or ... 163-06.jpg

the base color is too yellow, the brown is too strong and dark.

the belts around the legs should be colored in the camo base color.

the t-shirts you can see on the 2nd soldier from left should be tan/brown:

the sleeves end on the 2nd soldier from left is black.

the boots should be also in base color?

the glooves for desert should be either black or sand/tan.

i hope this helps :)

Thanks for the comments J.F.Leusch69!

Color:

It is always hard to get right color since lights in-game makes a big difference. In-game my uniforms look more like the real thing IMO.

The belts around the legs should be colored in the camo base color :

What color is that green? I've seen both (tan and green) depends on the date of deployment (first guys there were in woodland camo LOL)

The t-shirts you can see on the 2nd soldier from left should be tan/brown:

Agreed, will need to change the default one.

The sleeves end on the 2nd soldier from left is black:

Working on it :)

The boots should be also in base color? :

what do you mean... I don't understand.

The glooves for desert should be either black or sand/tan:

Also very different from one picture to the other... but will see to it

Oh I didn't know that. The nvg mount on the German helmet kinda looks like the one Canadians have. Anyways thanks for making me notice it. Unfortunately I don't play as the Germans very often.

Actually, there exactly the same but they are folded in a different position.

Thx mate, would love to do that, but I am limited by the models geometry. If I recall the guy in MOH has a pony tail and a massive beard which would require a new head model.

Talking of edits, I am looking for a modeler to make some shoulders pads (not available in PR or BF2v) as seen on the prime minister here:
Image

Also someone to unwrap the US geometries (skins and kits) so I can see where I am applying the new skins (now it's and hit miss process for very small parts)

Cheers,

Nix

Can you also have someone model the prime minister's sunglasses? :P

Just a quick update with some screenshots from an alpha test I run today. I am pretty happy with the results but I still need to tweak some of the skins.

Change log:
- New kits finished, just need the models edits for the LAT, HAT and maybe remove the IR beacon (not sure if the CF uses them)
- New custom faces (try to find which ones!)
- Fixed the sleeves
- Fixed the shirt (now kaki)
- New gloves
- New shades
- Tweak the uniform colors

After the fixes I will focus on the woodland versions.

Cheers,

Nix

Something weird going on just above the right knee cap protector.

You need a fabric texture to make it look more realistic.
See this screenshot here:

You gotta watch out for places where the texture is stretched, particularly below the knees.

@ VapoMan: They are, but I can't run PR on high because of my sh**t laptop. For that "thing over the knee" see next reply.

@Chuc: Working on it, but it would be nice to have someone to give me an image on were the faces end, that way I could position parts of the lighter camouflage in areas were stretching in inevitable to avoid this. If you know an other technique please share it with me in PM.

Cheers,

Nix

Try opening up the bump map files for the soldiers (you might need to do some digging in the other faction's texture folders), you'll find that the uv borders have been outlined. Otherwise, you could for example, squash the shin area's texture lengthways by 1/2 or so to compensate.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I needed to re-learn Photoshop to pull off theses beauties:

Image

Theses are more accurate (I.E. ballistic west, colors, patterns, etc.) and they look much better in my opinion. Next up will be the “light” class and after that the woodland versions. Comments and suggestions always welcome. Thanks to Mike for his help on finding the right CADPAT patterns.

Cheers,

Nix
