[Texture] Mi-8/17 Texture Overhual [WIP]

Well since my little map Idea caught so little attention, I decided to move on to something that would
A near complete remake of the horribly done Mi-8 textures, which took about 4 or so hours to make, and another hour to finalize it this version, so here what I have to show for it:

I probably should tone down the bolt overlay should I? It doesn't look at nice in-game as it does on its texture sheet
Meanwhile sadly the Texture is mirrored so I can't add any text or else I would put VVS ROSSII on the woodland texture which I will post as soon as I can get around to taking a screenshot of it

Looks nice, the woodland one is really good, I dont like the grren circle around MEC sign on the deser one though. Do you have any sources or do you make it just the way you want?

Sorry to burst your bubble but the vBF2 Mi-8/17 is going to be replaced with our new Mi-8/17:
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f196-p ... opter.html
As for your textures, the russian navy one looks pretty good, nice work on the rivets and colouring doesn't look too bad but your MEC texture is far too bright and things like the wheels etc look like they could be improved quite a bit. I'm not the best for giving feedback on textures thou so hopefully someone else can help you out more on that
Keep on going, you could try re-skinning some of the PLA vehicles, they really need some work

Oh man, could I possibly have the honor of transferring all the work I did on this Texture to the new one
And please tell me the new model's texture has both sides textured so I can put VVS ROSSII on the tail like the new ones
Meanwhile what about the Havoc, that has a horribad texture

I designed the roundel my self since the original MEC roundel looks retarded and this one was somewhat more realistic

Wow it looks alot cleaner. The desert camo is a bit too bright, the colours for it look good though. The bolts and lines are too defined IMO, you can hardly see them on most reference pictures
Heres some different desert camos, the top two are from the middle east, and the bottom two are Russian.

As Rhino said though, a newer model has already been made and textured, so your work on this wouldnt last long.

To suggest some projects involving OpFor helicopters other than the Mi-17 -
If you're handy in Automax, I'd remodel the Havoc and then texture it, thing as it's a vBF2 model in need of some love (the Russian version, at the very least, has received new textures). If you're not all that good with the modeling, I'd retexture the vBF2 Mi-24 in Militia colours, as the Militia don't have an attack chopper and the Mi-24 would probably fit the bill (plus everybody wants the Mi-24). Still, I absolutely love your work with the rivets.

What's automax?
Also I already have militia version of the helicopter made up
I knew the bolts looked off, anyway I'm talking to Rhino to see if I can play around with the new model's Texture

Meant 3D max, the modeling program.

Well I have no idea how to play with 3D modeling, and the texture on the new Mi-8 model they have up puts me to shame imo

For a start, the UVs are totally different on the new model, you can't simply "transfer your work" to the new model and no, you can't have the honour of doing new textures for the new model (with us using them that is) as the new model has been made/textured by one of our best modellers/texture artists who has years of experience and right now you can't match up to that quality of work.
It is best you practice on things like the Havoc etc which yes, could defiantly use a texture overhaul

Well technically I can because the bolts and details are a different layer

, also okay, I was going to add the bolts and do the paint job for the MEC and add accurate markings to it
Also why is everyone seemingly oblivious to the fact the Russian Duma ordered the Air Force to apply the the new stars to all state owned aircraft?
Also I want to do the havoc, but for some reason I have a urge to tackle the frogfoot first since it still is still flying for a defunct air force
Also is my MEC roundel fine?
Hell, most of the work was the bolts and redoing the seams, going the markings, I didn't bother with anything else with the wheels being due to oversight

Good spot, I don't think the Frogfoot was touched ever since it was put into PR, except for the Iraqi flag changed to MEC (since the model is from US Intervention mod), you could also do a Russian texture of it.

the MEC helis got already reskined, same for the frogfoot for the russians.
if you want to do a reskin, take the T-90

Wait you've already done the frogfoots? Seriously?

no only for the russians, the MEC version still uses the USI (iraqi) skin

Oh okay
Wait, is the Russian version using up to date markings and camouflage? I hear the Russian Air Force has apparently standardized the schemes and markings instead of these ad hoc patterns of the 1990s
Actually I just checked, yeah, I'm going to redo this too since the camouflage pattern isn't correct and it uses the old Stars when the Russian Parliament put a legal requirement on the military to have their aircraft carry the star with the blue outline

Okay uh, I'm going to move on to the T-90 then
[R-DEV]Rudd wrote:great to see a community member trying to pitch in
Speaking of Pitching in, you guys planning to redo the Russian kits? The Camouflage if off since the Russian Desert Camouflage pattern is based on woodland CADPAT instead of the MARPAT you have

I'd like some evidence to back up that statement. We've got Russian advisor [R-DEV]Nosferatu that provided us with pattern samples that were used to make the texture.
