Hello - New member intro/questions.

Hey Guys,
I am building a new PC as I just can't fathom being suck on my console for BF3. While I was researching the PC parts I couldn't help but remember all the fun times I had playing BF1943, Desert Combat, BF2 on the PC. It was honestly some of the best time of my gaming life. I got away from it as I built a "Home Theater" in my house and just got lazy and it was easier and more enveloping playing on my projector with my audio system.
But nostalgia has crept up and I want to get back into PC gaming. While looking up some old BF2 information I came across some people talking about Project Reality. This looks very interesting, I took a quick glance at the PDF Manual that was posted and it's pretty expansive.
I am wondering how long it took some of you to get the hang of it all. I looked at my stats for BF2 and it shows me at almost 200 hours, I thought I played more than that, but maybe not. I enjoy BF more than say COD because of the slower pacing and teamwork feel. It just has always felt better to me.
I am 33 and I luckily am a late night person who has a wife that enjoys her TV shows and doesn't make me watch them, and she usually ends up asleep way before me, so that means that even with a couple kids I do have some time to get back into some Battlefield gaming.
I am a serious player who enjoys working in a team enviroment and overall I just like to have fun and be able to help my team out. If I have to start out small and work my way up to different kits (which I couldn't quite make out in my skimming of the manual) then I am cool with that.
So, will I fit in, or should I just leave.

It really depends on the person. Getting used to get the gameplay can be a little while, since the deviation for the guns are kind of annoying at times, especially in close combat scenarios. When squading up, listen to the squad leader, and communicate with teammates. Mumble is probably the best way to communicate, mainly because you can talk/listen to other teammates in a 3d positional environment. To install it, is easy, it asks you whether you want to or not during the installation of the mod. Just read the manual (like you said you did), ask other players, PR is a very friendly community, so anyone will help you figure things out. As for servers I prefer TactialGamer, as it's located in Dallas (think it's moving), and the Admins are good. I'm sure I didn't cover a lot but enough to help.
To setup Mumble here's a good guide on how to -->

Hi
Welcome to awsomeness.
It might be intimidating at first, but don't let it scare you. You just have to start playing with basic knowledge and when you play ingame it will all become natural to you. It took me 3 weeks to get a firm grasp of most of the things you can do in game and most of the kits but still there are facets of the game I havn't explored.
good luck

A few weeks to learn, a lifetime to master
As for getting started, read the manual, join an infantry squad to start off with, talk to your team mates and follow orders. There are loads of guides and tutorials on here for when you want to try more advanced stuff.
Good hunting

Great setup

the only server i'd suggest in the NA region is the tactical gamer server, however, seeing as u may be playing more during the night HARDCORE may be more populated for you. If by chance u do spot me in TG feel free to ask for help.

Thanks. I will do that. Looking forward to playing with some squads who talk and use their heads to play.
I wish I would have placed my order sooner. I want to play now!!!!

So very true. I'd say it took me a full year to properly "grok" PR as an Infantryman, but there are areas I have literally never touched (I have never gunned an attack chopper, for instance) so there is potentially a lot of depth and lot of things to master.
One thing about PR; twitch skills are not everything. If your smart, have good spacial and/or tactical awareness, or are comfortable in a support role (Inf Medic, Logistics, Mortars) PR could still be the game for you.
Personally I can't shoot for shit but I'd like to think I am one of the better SLs out there, and I know for a fact there are few medics better than me. So my advice; pick something you like doing and hone it to a fine edge.

I'd go as far as saying 'twitch skills' are nearly irrelevant. Personal skills are still very important, though, mainly the ability to quickly spot and identify targets, positioning, movement, timing of fire with your teammates, dealing with stressful situations (being suppressed, bleeding, having a grenade land next to you, and still be clear enough to do the right thing, quickly hiding into a ditch instead of running away and being shot and survive)

Don't listen to Wicca, whatever you do. And stay away from Norwegians, they're all a bit scary.

Don't listen to Wicca, he'll make you question your sexuality and in general turn your personality into something more fitting of a mental patient. Tactical Gamer is a good American server for teamplay, try that out. Just tell your SL in VOIP/Mumble that you are new to this and he'll most likely show you the basics

interesting setup
my question is how come you did not get another bid hd
you are fine unless you are going to download a lot of programs and movies on it
also my big suggestion is when you join a squad tell your sl that you are new
and practice co op a little bit to get the hanh of it
most importantly have fun

Wat? I'd say twitch skills are pretty important, especially in CQB...

Not really. It's just a matter of spraying somewhere into the general direction of the enemy. Pistols being a notable exception, as they can actually be used on the move.

Sorry, those were just the highlights. I also have 2 1tb drives coming. I am coming from an iMac so I had to purchase every single thing.... lol
That SSD drive is just for OS and a few games.
The GTX580 showed up this morning. Just have to wait for the rest now.

Hey man, sweet setup you're getting.
there can be hiccups in getting BF2

R running nicely on Vista and Win7, but they are easily overcome with admin settings etc.
PR has a large proportion of players using microphones etc, most players are really good at trying to work together whereas there are some rambos or lazy players, but most are good
Your best gameplay will start when you find a server you really like, and get to be a regular.
Start small and tell your squad leader that you are new, and he'll probably give you the rifleman kit to ease you in to the experience. Some people are dicks, but you're 33 and you've probably already learned that

just take it on the chin and make some friends.
Hope to see you ingame
