Is this game right for me?

Hi all!

I'm considering getting Project Reality, but due to the large download size, I've decided to ask you all if you think it would be the right game for me before I install it.

Here are a few of the questions I have:

1. What is the average age of the people who play this game? I'm only 15, and I'm worried that I might not fit in with people who are older than me, or get branded as a whiny kid and get kicked.

2. What is the average skill level of players? I've only been playing BF2 for about three weeks now, and while I've gotten the hang of the game, I'm only a Corporal right now, and there are still a few classes/vehicles I haven't used extensively.

3. How tolerant of mistakes are the people who play this game? I don't usually play FPS games very seriously, and I have a tendency to die frequently and to momentarily abandon common sense under pressure.

Remember that all these questions are from someone who has never played this game before, so if they are all entirely inaccurate feel free to point that out. On the other hand, if you feel that this game doesn't seem right for me, just say so; I won't be offended.

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing your advice!

1. I started when I was 14, as long as you don't act like a ten year old you will be fine.

2. I have seen a lot of new guys and its not that bad. Just don't try to fly or if your SL tries to give you a kit your not conformable with tell him. And let SL's know your new. Vehicles are completely different from regular BF2 so don't worry about it.
3. If you let them know your new and listen to what people tell you to do then and they flip out on you find another squad.

There are literally thousands of different people who play this mod. Individual attitudes, age and skill levels vary widely.

You'll come across some pricks and some legends, neither represent the community in it's entirety.

1. Dont worry about age. Act like an adult and people will respect you like one.

2. Dont worry about skill, it doesnt matter how good you are in BF2. PR is a much slower paced game that doesnt require twitch shooting skill like most FPS shooters. And as with anything in life, you'll get better the more you play.

3.Let people know you are new. Just stick with basic infantry things like rifleman and just follow what others do until you fully understand the purpose and scenarios each weapon or vehicle should be used for.

The game is very different from BF2 so as long as you have some FPS experience and know some of the tricks and controls from BF2, you'll be as prepared for PR as you can be. Other than that, just practice and read the manual and stuff.

Also, you shouldn't let anyone else tell you if a game or mod is 'right' for you. That is up to your personal discretion.

All of us were newbies once, all of us had to go through a learning curve. It takes time to get used to and appreciate the mod, there are inevitably going to be 'difficult' experiences along the way but you learn how to avoid them.

As mentioned it's best that you let others know you are new and if they don't help you simply move along to the next squad or server until you find someone who will. There are players who really enjoy teaching newbies, just try to avoid asking questions that are clearly answered in the manual. :)

It matters because it'll save him asking countless unnecessary questions in game, potentially evoking a negative 'RTFM' response.

Do you consider that to be substantial advice?

What makes you think I'm doing that?

I was trying to give the OP decent advice, what are you contributing to the thread?

How many pages are there in the manual ?
as compared to things you already know based on years of gaming ?

the differences between PR and and every other game are either obvious or buried within the minutiea of the manual.

Either you are a dumbass who learns new weapons systems based on what it does to the nearest teammate...................or you're not.

If not, then the details of the BMP-3 TOW or the T72 TOW or the HAt will be explained by your teammates, regardless of how many times you have read the manual.

If you are offended by the word "dumbass" then perhaps you need to re-evaluate your weapons testing protocol or you just don't understand Engrish and I wasn't talking to you anyway.

I'm like an "oldfag" except, I'm not,
but I want more and more people to play this game and if you give me even the slightest hint that you are not completely familiar with any and all aspects of the the platform you are currently responsible for I will be more than willing to explain it.
That is if I can beat one of the other 47 people who are ____experts on that given system and will give you all the advice you could ever want on how to operate it.
I do not think that PR lacks an energetic training staff.

Pardon me Wicca.

Callous. The 45 page manual details the substantial differences between BF2 and PR, not the basics of first person shooters. It doesn't only pertain weapon systems either, here's the link again if you want a refresher: Project Reality v0.95 Manual

It certainly doesn't teach everything there is to know about playing PR however it still explains a great amount. Reading it is more efficient than asking the questions it answers and frees up time in game to focus on everything else.

I''m sorry
I was being facetious / sarcastic.
I just wanted people to like me.
YouTube - ‪Grateful Dead - Wharf Rat‬‏

but even if they didn't(andor)don't\, I wanted to communicate the theme that PR is about communcation and teamwork rather then devotion to a certain set of in-game combat protocols.
I in no way wanted to denigrate the work so many have contributed to the PR manual or diminish the value of learning the basic rules of Project Reality ( realitymod.com).
