1. Read the manual, said often but is true
2. Get bf2 and updates to 1.5, then go here, downloads tab, and there u go

People generally use voip (built into bf2), ventrillo, and pr's version of mumble . . . where to get that download I forget, but I do remember u cannot use the normal mumble from the normal bf2 game

Take that. Stick with it. All these fancy tanks and aircraft can wait, at first you'll need to learn how to fight as an infantryman.

Here, take a few shots at those targets. Don't forget to call out contacts in a combat situation and wait for orders on whether to engage or not, unless you have been allowed to shoot on sight.

Ah, your grouping wasn't too bad there! If you want to improve your performance, you'll need to understand that the more you move, the worse you shoot. Take a knee, wait a few seconds, take a breath and then shoot, don't spray away.

Yeah, that's it! Put your weapon on safe and listen up again.

When you're being sent out there, you'll report to your squad leader immediately. Tell him how to call you, that you're new, and ask him what equipment he wants to assign you and where to deploy. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Although, here, take this one as well.

*Hands you the field manual*

This is your bible now. Read it carefully and you'll spare your squad leader a lot of stress.

Don't try to be a hero. Try to stay alive before everything else. Know how to use the rifle, and learn the basics of first aid - the field manual covers that - so that you can help your medic, should he get wounded in combat, and people can rely on you. You won't want to drive any heavy vehicles or even aircraft yet.

In a proper "INF VOIP" squad, you'll be of use even when not very experienced, and you'll quickly learn everything that's important out on the battlefield. Follow orders, don't be too shy on the radio, and ask when you have questions, and you'll get along nicely with the veterans.

Now go and report to Wicca's platoon, these guys are excellent at introducing recruits.

...

I'm not quite sure why I just role-played that, but yeah. Read the manual, join an infantry squad, tell them you're new and let them guide you through a bit, and you'll be fine. .

The PR files are available from Project Reality : Realistic Gaming Redefined - Downloads
You will need the three CLIENT parts. The rest is optional.

When you update BF2 and install PR you need to do it in this order.

1. Install BF2.

2. Update to 1.41

3. Update to 1.5

4. Install all three parts of Project Reality. The installer will ask you to install PRmumble. A lot of people use mumble, you can read more about this program here Mumble Voice Program in Project Reality - Project Reality Forums

Hey! Welcome to th- wait... Noes! Someone already posted for me! Now I'll never be able to post anything in any introduction threads anymore :p

Kidding. To add to what has already been said; everyone in PR is usually using ingame VoIP, a lot of people on the right servers (Tactical Gamer for the states, PRTA and NwA for Europe, sometimes on others as well) also use mumble which has positional audio for communication outside your own squad, and for a squad-leader channel for all squad leaders (duh).

Mumble comes with the main PR download.

To get PR, do the following:
Firstly, you need Battlefield 2.
If it isn't already, it then needs to be patched to patch 1.41
THEN it needs to be further patched to patch 1.5 (again, if it didn't already come fully patched; that depends on when and where you buy/bought it).

After installing BF2 and the patches, download client part 1, 2 and 3 of PR 0.95 here:
Project Reality : Realistic Gaming Redefined - Downloads

Then install them in order (As Badger pointed out already.)

Enjoy your stay! :)

If you have installed PR just join [NEW] New Era Warfare or Coffeeshop Server. The german community on this servers are quiet helpful. And install Mumble and PR Mumble for better communication. PR Mumble is included in the PR Installer and Mumble can be downloaded from Mumble.com | Mumble Server Hosting . A mic is a must for good teamplay.

Join a Squad that have a Squadleader and use your mic. say that you are a new player and dont mess around with kits or vehicles if you dont have trained with them (especially Helicopters and jets). Stick to a rifleman kit for the first time and learn some basics.

edit: ah and dont take the sniper kit...nobody needs it and nobody likes it and some squadleaders will kick you if you request it...its not that fancy like in bfv

Welcome to PR, you should definitely read the manual and probably play on co-op servers to get accustomed to things before jumping in. Hope you like it here :)

There is a Server up for new players called VRW. Join it! Maybe there is an instructor on right now?!
