mortars under buldings

Should be made impossible or admins need to step in and mark it as exploit and start punishing so people will be deterred from doing it.
Any mortars that can not be counter mortared because they use the exploit i consider exploiting and hope to soon see an end to this.

Report it to the server admin and advocate for a rule change if it isn't illegal.
I agree it is an exploit and using that tactic is akin to cheating.

It's an exploit, I must admit I have used it in the past.
But where do you stop? If you put them in a small/tight alleyway is it the same thing?
(In theory you should only be able to shoot straight up!)
Perhaps they can be made not to be placed within XX metres of another object/model?

The OP's issue is roofed mortars.

Kashan Bunkers anyone?

There is a realism issue with the angle of the tube and nearby walls but that is not the same thing as placing the mortars under cover.

Notice that EVERYTHING in game is an object. If they only were grouped into the classes or something like that (building objects, ground objects, "green" objects)... it may works.

Maybe add some kind of projectile that leaves the pit straight up. If it hits something it simply exterminates the mortarpit? Remove ballistics for this projectile (if possible) and it just keeps flying away so that it won't hurt anyone if the pit is placed under the open sky.

its pointless as it doesn't effect gameplay, just your immersion. putting mortars in a 3 walled courtyard is = defense to a bunker in pr. vehicle splash damage ( AKA ENEMY MORTARS) will blow up your mortar pits inside bunkers anyways. you can do the same to enemy hideouts in caves/tunnels. plus, devs know about it.
i say its a bug, not an exploit but so many people seem to think it gives a massive advantage lol. can you name one instance where i can't kill your mortars with my mortars using this bug?

Here is one example those little barns on Asad Kahl are mortar proof. The idf put there mortars there I was spotting for our mortar squad and they called numerous amounts of mortars on it and they wouldn't go down, so I had to go in my self.

Illidur the OP means when you build a FOB inside a building (a house that isn't enterable), spawn IN it and build mortars too, then no one can get in to kill them, so yes this is an exploit and I'd like to see it removed.

This is a realism mod after all. Of course this is against what the mod stands for.
Not every aspect of realism has to be CODED into the game. We, the players, can take care of everything that the code can't manage.
Don't be hardcoded, players! You are the game!

Inside the big warehouse on Karbala, or any other map where they are present. You could possibly get splash damage onto the mortars if they were placed inside if you hit the side-roof bit where there are open windows, but still a big distance away from the actual emplacements.
If this can't be fixed in a reasonable manner it would just have to be enforced by servers admins, as some things already are. An example is some servers disallow incendaries on manned vehicles as this is a coding issue and shouldn't be possible.

That's not how I understood the post. I understood it as placing mortars under any roof where the mortars would not be functional and since that works just fine, a lot of people do that.

Automatic permament global ban from PR if you build them 0,04 meters too close to wall. anyone?
Yeah, devs know about it and it will be hopefully fixed.
And best way to kill enemy mortars is to send some infantry there.

Counter mortar via Airburst. Damages constructs through walls I believe.

next time someone has mortars in kashan bunkers, just pretend you are assaulting one of these rather than moaning bout it

these take time to build, i wouldnt mind this exploit if it took them the entire round to built that mortar. also there's still no roof to protect from incoming shelling.
Dont the current mortars fire from the mortar tube and thus should explode on impact with the roof? If not then we should make it so

No, they appear from the sky! Hence the possibility of the exploit.

i doubted this, so i tried it. it seems you are right. it will allow you to kill fobs etc but not mortar pits for whatever reason. i think its a problem with the metal roof, alot of rounds being fired from inside dont make it out either.
i tested on asad kahl coop, first barn to the east of idf main.
