Give APCs/Tank Crews ability to spot

What i really miss when iam Squadleader of tank squad drive or gun a tank is is a ability to spot enemy targets for my team or for my squad. Every officer with his radio can Spot targets but iam, in a sophisticated high tech tank, cant. I think thats not ok. So whats about to add this ability? Maybe you can limit it so a slot..whats about that useless MG gunner slot? give it a "inside view" on 2 and give him the ability to spot targets.
Discuss!

Very late approval from me. It's something that, on second thought, may actually be worth discussing, and isn't a resuggestion as far as I'm aware.
Go ahead.

+1.
If not, compromise and only light/recon vehicles could use spotting feature:
Scimitar NBC recce vehicle
Scorpian 'tank' (Scimitar with bigger gun?)
LAV and variants
BRDM
anything in same vehicle class could spot
Reason I suggest only these vehicles is because of their purposes and to block spam spotting from EVERY vehicle.

I think it's must have for all recon vehicles. Done by adding another weapon for commander seat, with radio abilities. Although afaik all armored units have radio, so it should be available for every armored vehicle. Same goes with scout helis.

Hej guys i wanted to write a thread about tank and APC drivers yesterday about giving them the ability to laze targets for CAS. In real live CAS and armour are trained to communicate with each other to take targets down, I dont see that at all in PR.
This will give the tanks the ability to servive more. Like for example if there is a tow or a squad with hat kits they want to take down.
Thanks
Hey. I'm sorry, Markoxx, but please stay on the topic of the original suggestion or make a new thread. - Spec

I think what would be much smarter is not spotting the enemy that will show up and move on the map, but instead create a smaller "infantry spotted" icon that is stationary. Creating a moving marker that tracks the enemy infantry is pretty unrealistic.

Still don't get why you just can't give the third posititon the commander camera instead of the MG...

Funny to read that post 2 years after i posted it...and my english still isnt better, but its nice to see that people like it. I thought of an spotting/marking function like the squadleader actually has with his radio, it shouldnt be too easy to spot targets so you have to set a range and type of the contact to create a stationary marker on the Map, visible for everyone.
thanks spec btw

good suggestion. Although I agree that with Steeps that it shouldn't be moving markers. Just add an extra weapon to the driver that functions as the SL radio markers? Would be a cool feature. But I would only give it to the APC/IFV/recon vehicles and tanks.

If the armor is in visual range to laze things then in might as well engage itself. Don't see how this can add to game-play. Besides this is another suggestion and should therefore be perhaps in its own thread to be discussed like it should?

It turns out this is, in fact, a resuggestion. I'll let you keep discussing it though, unless a Dev wants to lock it. My mistake.
Either way: Lazes are Off Topic. Let's not derail this.

No, the idea is giving the recon vehicles the ability to mark contacts on the map like squad leaders can with their radios.

Giving the Commander/Driver seat on armoured vehicles a weapon with radio comm-rose alliterates, other than deployable objects etc that allows them to spot targets though icons on the minimap etc sounds good to me
As for the idea of giving vehicles the ability to lase targets for air to ground attacks, I would say no, with the possible exception of recon vehicles such as the Scimitar etc if they have the ability to do so in r/l but would have to hear the MAs on that. For tanks, not a good idea, especially since they will also be able to see all lase boxes themselves from having the ability to lase (unless we made it so they couldn't see their own lase boxes which would mean that they wouldn't be able to tell if their lase is on target) so essentially they would be able to tell if someone was lasing a friendly vehicle or even themselves and could possibly even tell which direction the lase was coming from if they saw it shooting out from a SOFLAM etc.

As far as I have tried, tanks have no indirect-fire weapon so they cannot hit stuff that started going prone behind hills.

lasing is also a direct fire weapon, so unless you can lase a tree or building right next to where they are hiding, which if you can see that you can probably shoot with a HEAT shell and kill them anyways, then a lase still wouldn't help

Extra seat, for tank commander would be ok I think, and it would be usefull for driver, if he needs to turn tank engine off, at the same time spot for targets safely from small arms fire.

Not going to happen. We already have a tiny amount of armoured vehicles ingame since we split the driver and gunner into two seats, having a 3rd for commander would mean even fewer vehicles on the field as it would mean only two tanks/APCs per squad, rather than the current 3, vBF2 style it was 6.
The current two is the best compromise between gameplay and realism, as the commander position on its own would kinda suck, as would the driver position on its own and most regard the two combined as the lesser position over the gunner anyways, that's ignoring the bigger issue of player numbers required to operate them mentioned above.
