Chechen to militia name change

Hey guys, I am sure this has been asked before but I couldn't
find an answer for the life of me (yes I used the search function). Just wondering, why was the
Chechen team changed to Militia?

Again, apologies as I'm sure this has been asked before.

I could be horribly wrong, but from my understanding, I think the faction was originally referred to as the "Militia", but then changed to Chechen when the Russian forces were added to give them a realistic "real world" enemy or something. The faction was changed back to a more generic fighting force because there really isn't a lot of Opfor factions, and Russia had other people to fight against, thus allowing the Militia to be paired with other Blufor. Thus the Brits could fight on more maps such as fools road without the situation seeming, well, foolish.

Don't quote me on this though, just what I think.

that does make sense. I do recall when they were originally known as militia.

though I wish on the RUS vs MIL maps that militia would be called Chechens so I when I play as the Russians I can imagine myself crushing filthy Chechen scum

Actually, the main reason for the name change (as far as I'm aware) is the fact that the mapper that did the mestia/fools/dragonfly trio wanted britain as blufor on those maps. Since it doesn't really make sense to have the british fight the chechens, it was renamed to militia (that happens to speak russian). Not that it really makes sense that britain is fighting a russian speaking unspecified militia, but who cares I guess.

You mean just like how MEC, INS, HAMAS, and the Taliban all use the same voices?

No, I think he means that instead of being confirmed Checen, it's up to you (or the mapper) to decide what you are fighting against. And I think the Militia don't use the same voice as the Russian forces

I would imagine a large part of it was simply that calling them the "Chechens" allows for a very narrow range of possible maps and opponents (i.e. Russia), whereas calling them just the "Militia" allows them to be used against a much broader range of opponents and is therefore more efficient content wise (which is probably quite a big concern when your a mod team.)

they were militia, they became chechen, then they became militia again

having a generic semi conventional faction is just easier for everyone

seriously though, the gameplay difference is a different flag and a different victory message, so boohoo tbh.

When fighting them as brits I always imagined them as IRA or some other northern Irish militant group. Forget the fact that they don't speak english.

I suppose they could be seen as some sort of Euro-Taliban type faction, but with better vehicles. Hell, why not have a few insurgency maps against them. Imagine hunting down caches on Dragon Fly! I seem to remember Iron Ridge having an insurgency layer...?

Was originally named Militia to begin with.

Pfft, I still refer to them as Chechens on Rus vs Mil maps. :D

Haha, actually the militia in-game voices resemble real russian accent and language. Russian Forces in-game voices, however, some words just sound ridiculous to a native Russian speaker with weird pronunciation to some words. Why they changed it I dont know. No offense to the voices guy.

People were complaining saying how oh well chechens have no relation to X faction or Y faction and it's not realistic bleblebleble.

So dev team was like NO U and made them un-named militia, like the "insurgents"
