enterbf3.com forum gives PR-mod respect

I was reading on enterbf3.com about how they aren't releasing mod tool, HOPEFULLY just at first, and how the BF3 people feel that the frostbite 2 engine is too much for hillbilly mod people. But all over the forums related to the post talk about how PROJECT REALITY DEVELOPERS CAN EVEN DO BETTER THAN BF2 developers. HELL YEAH, congrats R-DEV on the respect you guys get even when up against a new game that is going to do very well. Personally i hope one day they give you guys the chance to mod, but i know its not on the radar yet just saying KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!. And go ahead pat your self on the should and say, "Good job!".

Warning given for inappropriate post content. Homophobic language is strictly forbidden here, as is showing a clear lack of respect for other game developers - Jigsaw

While, I thank you for the compliments, we do have to aknowledge that the team at DICE did provide the current platform we use, and that none of this would have been possible without DICE and EA. And we didn't have to build the game from scratch.

We found a niche, and thanks to several inspired people from the old days and now, we made a great mod, but we cannot forget who we have to thank ultimately for that. If we've proven that certain gameplay elements are more fun than others in the process, so much the better.

Exactly! While PR is definitely an awesome piece of work I think it's safe to say it doesn't come close to making a game like BF2 (almost) from scratch.

I found it very ironic during a preview of bf3 that i saw on G4, that many of the skins the PR dev team created were in fact in use with the exact customization that the devs here at PR created.

ACOG on M16
EOTech scopes
and some others.

it also looked like some of the camo skins came directly from the skins you guys made.......of course no credit was given but then again, PR imho hasn't been given the right amount of credit in general.

I really am appalled at DICE, they really think their the top dog and modders can't mod on the F2 engine because their too dumb? They're probably afraid of what might happen. Then again, if dice doesn't release mod tools, it might as well be a freaking console game...(oh wait it is, and it's consoleized to fit the little kids' needs...) No mods to extend the life of the game, that is why BF2 is a great success.

The reason why they are not releasing any mod tools, or more to the point, not giving any mod support, is simply down to one thing. Money.

DICE's original business plan for BF2 was to make the basic game and then let the modding community bring in more money on top for free but very soon after releasing BF2 they realized that since BF2 was so hard to mod (compared to BF1942) and how much work they would need to channel into the modding community to really get it going in the way they had hoped that they would be better off making Xpacks and "booster packs" themselves and making extra money that way, rather than try to get the modding community to try and sell more copies as they didn't see anything like DC springing out of BF2 like what happened with BF1942 where DC really did sell many, many more copies of 1942.

Project Reality and Forgotten Hope and even POE2 along with a few other mods too (some which have never even been released even) have actually some what archived to get very high rates of players thou and have sold quite a few more copies of BF2 but tbh but I can't tell you if the modding community has made more money than the xpacks and booster packs but I would say, its about even but could have been much higher IMO if DICE stuck with backing the modding community.

But DICE still feel that backing the modding community with spending lots of money on releasing mod tools and writing tutorials, + giving general support simply is more costly than making "xpacks" themselves which they can sell on, even if they are utter rubbish the player wont find that out until he plays it + a new player is more likley to buy a game if he sees a box sitting on the shelf with 3 xpacks attached to it in a bundle for a knocked down price than stumbling on a mod that he doesn't own the game too and then decides he wants to buy it (although that dose happen, but word of mouth is the bigger seller for mods).

Anyways at the end of the day its all down to modding and even if DICE did release mod tools for BF3, I wouldn't be modding it down to what happened with BF2.

We have a lot of maps for BF2, some way better than any official BF2 map. With no mod tools, all the new content such as maps will be brought to public as (expensive) DLCs.

Yeah, it is all about making more money.

Its hard to say but the times are dificult, and EA is following the steps of Activision...

I'll be honest I don't really mind what Dice is doing. If the quality is right then I don't mind buying the stuff. What is wrong is when you think about map packs etc I mainly go to Cod, however if you think about it the stuff which Ea has released is of a good quality. The addons for Mass Effect 1 + 2, the special forces pack for Bf2 was nice. I have bad company 2 and it is great fun when with friends ( I have yet to try vietnam but I don't think I'll get it).

Don't say that Ea is going down the same route as Activision. Ea support is actually pretty decent, they are fast and are there to help. Imo it goes to prove that they still want to help gamers, meanwhile Activisions support was a complete waste of time.

As for mod tools, if Dice releases them I would be happy sure but I'm glad that battlefield seems like a decent game. They seem to have put the effort and effort into it and for that an very happy. Chances are you'll see a map editor some time down the line. That quite frankly would make me happy

If the community really want modding tools, im sure some enlightened scripters will get together and make it themselves...

..Almost positive.

As one door closes (*Coug* arma *Cough*).

PR is essentially part of a new genre spearheaded by Operation flashpoint, which was utter fail in multiplayer. Hopefully the masses will get a taste for a PR/Red orchestra/Arma style of gameplay. Eventually as consoles improve and get ram and hard drive closer to PC-Specs the virus might spread.

If they want the money of working adult people selling more engaging games is the route to go imo.

Yeah, but the advert (when you press "more info) isn't updated from 0.6.

True dat, but they still advertise it, it's BF2's site, not PR's ;)
