E-Tool to disarm Trip-Flares/Grenade-Traps

Post by PFunk »

Title says it all.

Though its been mentioned in a thread by M. Warren before it was a small part of a larger group of suggestions surrounding alternate functions for all special kit. The conversation turned into a coding discussion on whether alternate fire functions could work with a right click. I saw no confirmation of the viability of using the E-Tool for disarming trip flares.

Basically it only makes sense to me that the average soldier is capable of disarming a booby trap which they would encounter in that environment. It seems like a skill which would be readily handed down by veterans who would be involved in house clearing quite often. Fact that you can see one, get under one, and still not be able to remove it is really ridiculous. How can you for instance defend a building you might have just assaulted if you are boxed in by a grenade trap which you should have been able to disarm.

Since the E-Tool can already repair a door thats been shotgunned I assume that the devs are open to the concept of using it in alternate ways and since the Wrench is capable of disarming mines I assume also that its possible to remove grenade traps in like fashion.

it seas e-tool in the title, so if i understand right, he wants to use the entrenching tool, aka shovels, as a way to get rid of mines... i would fall for it.. just say you covered it with dirt or u throw it off :-D

still, i ilkey dis idea!

Could we just make to knife do it, simulating cutting the wire? I assume that's the best way to disarm them though i could be wrong.

idk if cutting the wire works in real life, do it.. well, all i know is that whne the cord is steped on it pulls the pin, so i could see how cutting it would be realistic...

On a recent episode from a documentary Patrick in Uruzgan theres still people from the engineers clearing out IED's. So I'd say lets see how it goes in reality. Yesterday on Korengal it was my first real encounter with a few grenadetraps that we spotted. I thought it was cool that we needed to call in an engineer (make one of our squad-members spawn in with one) It kinda removes the whole idea if everyone can remove them.

Or is that because thats so much more firepower instead of a grenade-trap?

The idea of it is fine with engineers except that they are limited are both are most likely being used for base defense in places like Karbala, I like the idea with knifes....to make it so it needs more teamwork you can make it 10-15 seconds long and your teammates have to guard you while you are doing it...if you do that take out crawling under it, give the knife a range of 1-3 meters and make it so insurgents/Taliban do not trip it

The idea that you can defuse grenade traps is excellent. Yesterday I encounter a few grenade traps we croult through theme but then the enemy was suddenly coming down the stairs and we were stuck between the grenade traps and the enemy deadly situation. Maybe its and idea to give the rifleman specialist the ability of defusing traps.

I completely forgot specialist....although I think it might be a tad outside their capabilities....because I think they should get GLTD...with their grapple and tripflare they make the perfect spotter...

When the wire is stepped on it pulls the grenade out of the can, releasing the safety spoon. The pin is pulled before the trap is set. If you cut the wire, the grenade stays in the can, the safety spoon stays on, and for the purposes of PR, at least, the trap is rendered safe.

+1 to Mr. Octo-Crab!
i like the knife idea
