I wouldn't hold my breath if i were you. I doubt we'll see this or the up-armoured CR2, Warrior, Mastiff etc, for months possibly a year, or longer. I've waited nearly a year for these updated vehicles already...

if you want it done, do it yourself, simple. DEVs perhaps have more important things to do.

0 IIRC,

there might not be many jackals, but they are on trial for future deployment ... PR is set in future , so..

but it is low priority.

They use to have 8 or something in Iraq but I'm pretty sure they have now been all withdrawn. None in Afghanistan.

It would be a great introduction to PR, but like others said the DEVs are busy, do it yourself if you want it, or suggest it in the modding section and see if anyone wants to do it.

Well, we have to face facts, The british are pulling out of Iraq so yes, they are few.

But I dont think PR should only go on details of wars that are happening now.

they were talking about CR2s not Jackals. Jackals should be in as PR is set in the future

I know I suggested this ages ago, and mentioned it alot.

I would love the Jackal ingame, but what does it bring to the British team?

the WIMK ingame provides light transport and Firesupport, what would the Jackal bring to that except being more surviable to IEDs?

If the British get a new vehicle ingame it would be a cougar varient like the mastiff or Ridgeback (mastiff is deployed, ridgeback is a more compact version waiting to go now)

why? Because it would be able to fit 8 guys ingame - bringing more than something we already have (crewman wouldn't be required) and also there is a cougar model that can be finished to make it.

ALSO! jackal is now becoming the Jackal 2

200 new armoured vehicles for front line operations
An Equipment and Logistics news article

22 Apr 09

A fleet of nearly 200 new armoured vehicles to support front line troops on operations has now been ordered by the MOD, it was announced yesterday, Tuesday 21 April 2009.

Jackal 2

The £74m order for around 110 enhanced Jackal 2 vehicles and more than 70 Coyote Tactical Support Vehicles has been awarded to vehicle manufacturer Supacat, which has formed an alliance with Babcock.

The enhanced Jackal 2 features improved manoeuvrability and reliability, and will be able to carry three crew members; one more than its predecessor.

The Coyote Tactical Support Vehicle is based on a 6x6 derivative of the Jackal and will support the go-anywhere, high mobility Jackals across the harsh terrain of Afghanistan.

Both vehicles have been bought as part of the £700m Protected Patrol Vehicles package unveiled by the Secretary of State for Defence, John Hutton, last October.

Minister for Defence Equipment and Support, Quentin Davies, announced the contract during a Supacat vehicle drive day at the Long Valley Test Ground in Aldershot yesterday, 21 April 2009. He said:

"These impressive vehicles will give our troops increased protection on front line operations and with their purchase we are showing our commitment to provide our Service personnel with the very best equipment we possibly can.

"This contract comes as our newest armoured vehicles, Mastiff 2 and Ridgback, go to Afghanistan for the first time, underlining our ability to deliver kit quickly to where it is needed."

Jackal 2 will have a 6.7-litre engine giving it a top speed of 80 miles per hour (129km/h) on roads and 55mph (89km/h) cross-country.

Supacat, based at Dunkswell, Devon, will be the prime contractor and will be responsible for design, development, prototyping, integration and overall programme management.

Babcock will be responsible for detailed production planning, purchasing and manufacture at their Devonport dockyard facility.

Supacat Managing Director Nick Ames said:

"This alliance will help to ensure that our Armed Forces receive the best possible equipment within the shortest possible timescale. The enhanced Jackal 2 and Coyote Tactical Support Vehicle (Light) will increase troops' protection and their operational effectiveness. We are extremely pleased that we can help in this way."

Babcock's Equipment Solutions Managing Director Roger Gillespie added:

"We have previously worked closely with Supacat in delivering more than 200 Jackals to the MOD and this contract will further demonstrate that this method of design, production and delivery is the best for MOD's needs."

Jackal 2 and Coyote are scheduled to be delivered to the MOD from summer 2009 onwards. The vehicles are expected to support operations in Afghanistan from the autumn.

Mastiff would be a good piece of gear to get into pr as it would fill the lightly armed apc slot that the devs are giving the factions. Think Styker or the Chinese WZ551A (less of a tank more an armoured machine gun) but for the British team.

Talked about the new Brit kit and whether it would be in game not long ago so head over to there if you want to see some other Dev input on the subject.

Also like rudd has said while it would be great to see it in game what would it bring? I Still think putting a Susat on the 50cal is a good ‘holding’ idea as it would make it more of a weapons platform (which is what it is in real life) and make up for its lack of seating.

Its gotta have crewman kit requirements if it get in game surely? The thought of seeing something as useful as the mastiff get used as a loners taxi fills me with dread.
Lots of love

Topic is about the Jackal. Mastiff, Cougar, Bulldog and all other British Jeeps have been suggested before. Stay on topic.

Looks like you need to start learning to model, gareth.
Well the reason why the CR2 isn't deployed is quite simply because there isn't a threat that needs them to be deployed, they wouldn't work very well in Afghanistan as its such a huge area and they dont need that kinda firepower. The Scimitar etc is a more effective weapon in thous situations. If we went to war with China or who ever, we would need to deploy our CR2s....

so really, the only contribution of Jackals in PR would be that they can't be destroyed as easily with IEDs
