Comprehensive PR 101 videos

Post by Tartantyco »

-I'm planning on making comprehensive videos that detail changes in game mechanics, introductory and extensive guides to all kits, basic and advanced gameplay videos, and so on. To that end I'm going to write up a 'script' of sorts in this thread containing a list of videos to make, specific content, etc. As I am just starting I'm going to post a draft here that I will expand upon as the ball gets rolling. I would like to hear suggestions from you all about video content and get some help in collecting relevant information on kits, vehicles, assets, and so on for more detailed guides, and naming suggestions for videos.

What I'm looking for right now for the first video is "don't do that" stuff, such as "Don't go 1337 snipah the moment you join the game". If there's some newbie acts you're often annoyed by then that's what I'm looking for.

Depending on how much of a work load this becomes I may also require assistance. Here's a basic overview, subject to extensive changes:

Project Reality 101: A Comprehensive Guide

Introductory Videos

Changes to and new game mechanics
This video will go through things like scope-in times, weapon/asset use delay, rally points, and so on in a brief manner.

Introduction to Project Reality
In this videos I will talk about what you should do when you first start playing, general information that new players should know, and so on(I will probably start with this one).

DOs and DON'Ts
This will be filled with all the annoying stuff new players do and don't do, and why they should keep their greasy little hands off the sniper rifle :p .

Basic kits - Introduction
Limited kits - Introduction
Vehicles - Introduction
Assets - Introduction

These videos will go through the specified topics en masse in a brief manner. Kit inventory, vehicle use and weaponry, and so on. I will most likely conflate some or all of these.

Squad Dynamics - Introduction
Not sure exactly what the content will be, something along the lines of pub level squad efficiency, rally points, officer's kits, roles and expectations.

Advanced Videos

Advanced Concepts
This will feature more specific and complicated game concepts, such as ammo dumps.

Basic kits - Detailed
Limited kits - Detailed
Vehicles - Detailed
Assets - Detailed

Here I will try to give a thorough walkthrough of all kits, vehicles, assets, etc, try to define their specific uses, etc.

Squad Leading
What your role is, priorities, how to behave, etc.

Infantry Squads
Armor Squads
Air Squads
Support Squads

Infantry/Armor/Air/Support tactics, their roles on the battlefield, implementation, loadouts, etc.

------------------

-That's all I have for now, lots of stuff missing. I'm going to try completing a finished 'script' for the "Introduction to Project Reality" video ASAP so that I can get started on it to get my video editing together and get a base line for how the videos should be organized and so on.

EDIT: Damnit, could someone add [WIP] to the title to prevent confusion about it's status?

-Well, that was a request for videos, and these videos can be used for that.

-I'm not sure yet how I'm going to structure it so I'm not going to jump straight into a medic tutorial just yet. :)

-I plan on doing all of the videos myself(To make them more uniform), hopefully around 3-5 mins, at least the introductory ones, and with limited text. What I'm looking for right now for the first video is "don't do that" stuff, such as "Don't go 1337 snipah the moment you join the game". Ah, I c, well, one of the things that gets me is newbies picking up kits that they don't know how to use. They assume that they are the same in vbf2. Perhaps a comparison video (almost a before->after :D ) to illustrate the differences would help prevent that.

I Would ask that a mod merge this thread with mine.

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... eos-3.html

As it will sever to jobs in one.

I Also plan to setup and FTP for you all the use to dump finished videos to.

I also request that all footage be in .wmv format in a aspect ratio of 4:3 with a sound setting of 128kbs.

Rudd, can we use the NATO 2 89th Readiness command stuff for this shizzle?

The kits and all that stuff? Did you record any of it?

not really, its all sitting on the NATO2 forums unless they deleted it

but tbh Wicca, PRT play is different to pub play, I'm not sure it would be useful

-Updated list with Advanced Concepts. I'm still looking for feedback for the introductory video, just post annoying things new players do, common mistakes, anything that's relevant to a new player who just started playing PR.

-I hope to get the first video finished this weekend, provided I get enough feedback here.

For one of the basic videos, to show the differences in aiming, you just have to do this, maybe it will help the vanilla rambos.

Get a buddy who will stand there in-game while you're recording on the opposing team, close enough but not in your face. 30m or so from you. Then demonstrate the ineffectiveness of weapons if not fired properly. Start by sprinting somewhere, then stop, quickly turn towards your buddy and empty your mag on full auto, like a vanilla player might. This should show that you can't hit anything that way and your buddy should probably still be there.

Then show the proper way of shooting, bring up your sights, steady the weapon and dispatch the other guy with precision. Hopefully it would get the message across that aiming the weapon actually makes you shoot better. Perhaps make a similar point with AT, sow how a HAT shot goes very wrong if not well aimed and how it kills an APC if given time to stabilize.

I just think that kind of demonstrations would be more important than basically showing what's in the manual. Showing some of the concepts that can be found in the manual is also not a bad idea, like how to enter vehicles, how to request a kit, etc. But for those basic videos, it might be better to focus on recording sequences that underscore the most dramatic changes in how the game plays.

-It may well be, but I'm not compiling videos, I'm making them, and I need some feedback for the first one, as described in post #12.

I think you should make it usefull and at the same time funny to watch, so people wont get bored while watching like this: (it is a bit long though but you get the idea, the end of the second video is kind of what i like to see).

Smoking your own position.
Grabbing a kit and when asked saying "well i work better with this kit"
Being a sniper in an infantry squad and engaging targets at 50m (seen it too many times for such a valuable kit)

101 reasons this isn't vBF2:

Sniper rifles on dense forest maps are ineffective for a reason, and its not because the mapper made a mistake in putting those craggy brown cylinders all over the place.

Smoking your own position only obscures your LOS to the enemy and gives him a marked area in which you're operating. Smoking his position blocks him from seeing more than just you but anywhere you might be going. Grenades are meant to be thrown at enemies, even if they only have smoke inside them.

Listen to your SL because its his squad and his energy being put into this round so if you don't like it make your own squad or shut up and kindly do as he asks. Offer suggestions but don't be a twat. This may be the internet but he's the asshat with the 'kick player' button and his mouse hovering over your name.

Yes that was a friendly and yes he's pissed so don't be a jerk when he gets vocal about how you just cost him a limited kit that won't respawn for at least 5 minutes. Wait for your tags to appear or check your map. You don't always have to stare down the sights like this is a deer hunt.

Don't run everywhere, save your stamina for crossing danger zones. Jumping around like a coked up bunny may be the 'in' thing with CS right now but its just going to waste your energy and leave you helpless and in the open when the lead starts hitting meat.

Don't shoot the Blackhawk's miniguns unless there's an enemy in front of you. You don't want to piss off a pilot who's kindly saving you the 15 minute walk to the action by getting him, you, the other 5 guys in your squad, and that lovely piece of tar coloured metal carrying all of you through the air blown up. Enjoy the countdown dipshit.

When you're reviving someone use the resuscitate and then the Epipen. Once he's back up don't heal him by clipping with the centre of his body or he'll TK you while he shoots to defend you both. And don't even think about pressing Page Up when you get the TK notice.

One medic per wounded man! You are a rifleman too!

Medics are riflemen too, but don't ignore people calling for your help!

The marksman is not a sniper kit.

The marksman is not a sniper kit.

THE MARKSMAN IS NOT A SNIPER KIT.

If your squad leader says "shoot at this marker" shoot at it, even if you don't see an enemy. He knows what he's doing even if you don't.

Always say "Frag Out" when you're throwing a grenade, but don't think that absolves you from throwing one stupidly at where your own people are moving to.

APCs and IFVs are meant to transport troops, so transport some troops!

Everytime you lone wolf an asset God kills another scotsman.

Try to share the assets. If someone has made a Pilot squad or an APC squad then join them if you want to drive or fly. If its full then just wait for next round or request to be added to the squad if someone leaves. Making another APC squad in some brilliant effort to ninja away yourself a Bradley will just waste your time and get you kicked.

Take cover as you move. Just because a medic can revive you doesn't mean you should be brazen with your life.

If you join a squad called 'Inf Voip' or 'Teamwork' don't ask if you can have a sniper rifle. Almost every SL will start to move his mouse to the 'kick player' option screen while he discusses with you why thats not an option.

Don't join a squad to steal a kit. Its rude, its stupid, and you know damned well that you're just gonna lose it in some nub rush at the enemy.

If a Squad Leader says 'newplayer, please respond or I'll kick you' and you don't answer, don't keep coming back to the squad and not answering. You can still type even if your mic was stolen by nazi war criminals and your voice was lost screaming at them as they ran down the street. If you can't spell then this game is beyond you.

Feel free to add to this. Maybe some day we'll make a vid.
