Comm Rose

Post by 5dollar »

Why waste the comm rose with "medic" etc when it's obvious to the said medic he needs assitance. Same as ammo, the red blur around you on minimap will suffice!

I still want to know why they put in "Sorry" and "Thanks" instead of "Cover me!" or "Take cover!"

I like telling people thanks but the only times I seem to TK is when I do it on purpose or the other person runs infront of me (fort is the best at doing this) so I have no need of sorry. Also I can't read the one under duck.

It was an example of what we could have, the one you mentioned:

Additional/Replacement Commo Rose Sayings

Post by JuniperM40 »

My $0.02 FWIW - Additions to Commo Rose:

______________________________

(A) I am in total agreement that "COVERING FIRE" needs to be added (alternatively, "COVER ME" would suffice). May times I have to type it in - it's a very common one used.

______________________________

(B) "ON MY WAY" - I.e. I need Repairs, engie response "On My way".

______________________________

(C) In the "Squad leader" commo rose, the UAV of course, is now missing since there's now UAV in PRMM.

How about:

"REQUESTING AIRSTRIKE" (on this target).

i.e. The "UAV" symbol will still show up, however, one should adjust it so that players (and especially flyboys!) would be able to see it. Might be a good re-use of that spot on the Commo Rose.

______________________________

(D) Repace "Attack this target" with "Fire on this target".

People get "MOVE HERE" and "ATTACK HERE" confused somtimes. I don't want my squad to "move" to a flag when I say "attack". I just want them to fire upon it. We already have a "Move" command.

If I want them to move, I'd say "MOVE TO THIS POSITION" instead of "ATTACK THIS POSITION".

I like juinpers idea of the fire upon this target after all as he said we already have a move to command and if they're moving to a enemy flag they will probaly attack it when they get there.

Are we talking right click "fire upon"?
Or comm rose, coz lets face it squad leader "arty here" is like playing the lottery where you want it dropped!

My blurred image agrees with JuniperM40 - suppressing fire command would be good.

Commo Rose.

As a Squad leader on the ground, using first-person-perspective Commo Rose - you have much better control of the "attack" or "move" or "defend" placement of your orders.

Try it sometime. Do an "Attack" while in a city, and face upwards towards the top of a building. You'll notice that your "attack" indicator (the orange sword) goes exactly where you face - including sides of buildings, bridges, towers, bushes, etc.

I find it would be useful vs. enemy snipers - order your squad to "fire upon this target", and supress the hell out of the 3 snipers they have on the rooftop. =) A much better way - since the battlefield is "3D" so to speak, while the squad/map screen shows overhead views only - and are only 2 dimensional. (They have no vertical component to them.).

Use of the "first person perspective" method via the command/commo rose (the one squad leaders can use) is highly preffered by me vs the squad-screen-overhead-map-thingie. =)

I had a great idea that I think is possible to implement. It involves the system currently used for the spotted option. Basically, certain options will allow you to right click on them to allow for more concise commands to be made. The ones on top will be generalised, such as 'I need assistance!', but right clicking that option will open up 'I need a medic!' or 'I need more ammo!' and all other subsidaries of that. Another use is that it'll allow you to use phrases that'd normally be disabled when entering a vehicle. Sometimes when you're driving you still want to call for a medic so you know where they are so you can get help.

Here's my revised 11 commands and their sub commands. They'll appear on the wheel clockise from the top with the last one being in the middle. You'll notice sometimes I've used the alternative wordings for each command. I've done this because to be honest, I feel there's a difference between 'Okay' and 'Roger That' and I feel you should have the choice without needing to change rank.
  • Go, go, go! (For beginning assaults)
  • Let's move squad! (For continuing troop movement)
  • Requesting a pickup, over! (Any type of vehicle)
  • Requesting an airlift, over! (Helicopter extraction)
  • Get in! (Instruct men to board vehicle)
  • Get out! (Instruct men to leave vehicle)
  • Negative. (No)
  • No sir. (Answer to a request where the answer is no)
  • No can do sir. (Answer to an impossible request)
  • Sorry sir! (Apology)
  • Take cover! (Warning)
  • Grenade! (Grenade)
  • It's gonna blow! (Explosion warning)
  • We're taking heavy fire! (Alternative warning)
  • Mayday! (Alternative warning)
  • I need assistance, over! (General help call)
  • I need a medic here, over! (For when you want a medic, but not necessarily for yourself)
  • Medic! (When you yourself need the medic)
  • I need ammo here, over! (Ammunition request)
  • I need repairs, over! (Repair request)
  • Follow me men! (General leadership order)
  • Jump on my call! (Paradrop instruction)
  • Cease fire! (Instruct men to stop firing)
  • Secure this position! (Order men to make area safe)
  • Create a perimeter! (Order men to fortify area)
  • Hold the line! (Order men to maintain perimeter)
  • Area clear and under control! (Area is secured)
  • Thankyou sir! (General thankyou)
  • Hey, thanks! (General thankyou)
  • Affirmative (Yes)
  • Roger that. (Acknowledgement)
  • Roger, wilco. (Acknowledgement and agreement to do)
  • Okay sir. (Agreement to do something)
  • I need support, do you copy? (Request for backup)
  • I need reinforcements here, over! (Backup request)
  • We need air support, over! (Air support request)
  • We need covering fire! (Request for covering fire)
  • Spotted (And all the current ones)
I may have missed out some important ones, but you get the idea. The ones in bold are the ones that would lay on top of the rose, the ones below need to be right clicked for. The only thing I see wrong with this is that it'll require some voice actors to incorporate them all, but just imagine how awesome PR will be with such a concise radio system! :D
