None of the PR servers will have the patch installed. So no, you can't play PR with it, even if it wouldn't break it.

Took me one whole round to notice how boring it was again. Still fixes in server side protection and hit detection should be cool in PR side aswell.

Re: BF2 Patch 1.5 beta is knocking at the door...
Here's the thing, and I know this will get me lynched by the "why don't you marry vBF2 if you love it so much" crowd here, one of the things I like about vBF2 is the variety in it. WHENEVER I got bored of an aspect of vBF2, I'd just jump in a vehicle, go for a fly, swap kits; go for one of a million different options open to me. At the worst I resort to cheesing it with C4 traps or uber-sniping from the middle of nowhere, or lurking in AA and scaring the **** out of pilots, or door-gunning the transport choppers and making everyone go "WTF?!? HAX!"Vege wrote:Took me one whole round to notice how boring it was again. Still fixes in server side protection and hit detection should be cool in PR side aswell.
In PR your options are a lot more limited. Fancy a little snipey-snipey? Someone in a locked squad's already got dibs. Fancy a little fly-fly? Someone's already staked out the planes; or "don't take it if you can't fly!" gets shrieked at you by people who selfishly whored the hell out of the vehicles when THEY were less experienced and don't want anyone else taking their preferred job. Fancy laying an ambush? Well, you'll have to convince your squad and SLer to support you and then sit around doing nothing like you want to in order to spring it.
ATM, PR's still got novelty value for me, so that makes up for the limited variety in kits and engagements; but this meme that vBF2 is somehow more facile that PR is pretty arrogant and unfounded. Your prefer PR, fine, that's your preference, but the vBF2 bashing is just so incredibly childish.

Re: BF2 Patch 1.5 beta is knocking at the door...
You got a point but i think you missed my not so obvious point.
I like PR much more because of
* leathality of the kits,
* no dolphines
* more teamwork
* no assetstealing/whoring
* no "one man captures the base" problems
* better looking maps and better graphics overall
* closer community (not so many players so you know at least some of em by name)
* older players
Vanilla was actually great just after the release when people used voip and such, seeing same happening to PR lately, less people thinking, more gunning.

Re: BF2 Patch 1.5 beta is knocking at the door...
The vBF2 kits are kinda more lethal, as the better deviation recovery, etc means you can actually hit what your crosshairs are locked on without having to stand around waiting for your target to turn around and get a lucky shot on you; which I think comes down to your last point. Older players = slower players, so behind all the "oh, it's more TACTICAL and REALISTIC that something you've got zeroed in your sights gets missed unless you stand still for ages!" posturing, it's basically "we don't like getting owned by people with skills while we're busy trying to play chess."Vege wrote:You got a point but i think you missed my not so obvious point.

"Asset whoring" - I get into choppers / planes pretty much whenever I feel like in in vBF2. I have never managed to get into one in PR because someone's already locked it up in a squad with his clanmate, etc.
Community - join / make a vBF2 clan. Can use VOIP / Mumble to your hearts content, only have adults in it and kick kiddies from the server; check out the vBF2 gameplanet forums and see where the regs play, bound to run into several of them most nights. Make a squad with VOIP in the title and boot people who don't follow you. When I went back to vBF2 after playing PR, that's what I did, and I found tons of people flocked to a squad marked "Eng VOIP".

While all your points are valid... there is one key thing you are missing ...

The serious post:
vBF2 is great to be random and silly
PR is great to actually play for a REASON.. kinda..

Ohyeas please do. It wont be as easy as that. You cant just go up to dice and say: Hey dice, we have 300 dollars, can we please buy the 128 player code?

Well I havent got any facts or anything to back this up but I'm feeling it wont work like this. Its there "baby", its also a company working for another big company (EA) that has plans already cut out for the next year. If they wanted to include 128 players in say.... BF3 or Bad Company 2, than they would not include it in BF2. This would destroy a huge selling point of BF3 or Bad Company 2.

Re: BF2 Patch 1.5 beta is knocking at the door...
why do you assume its all a big PLAN? you are idolifying a company you know nothing about. shit, we all know after a few years of using this engine how good and how bad it was. it was practically thrown together. (no offence dice) but nothing is certain in business. do you really think they are able to row up one success after another and expect it all to come together nicely. no business works like that. its impossible.
Dont assume they have a plan, because nobody has a bloody plan, especially in a recession. you grab onto whatever driftwood that comes your way and hang on for dear life.
I bet if i went up to DICE with $1000 and said. "can has 128 1337355 nao" they would oblige. they gotta put food on the table you know. regardless of the nitty gritty contract details in some cases.

Re: BF2 Patch 1.5 beta is knocking at the door...
I was an intern there (EA Benelux) for 6 months and know for a fact they have plans like that. They dont develop games they think are fun, the develop games that fill holes (Dante's inferno filled the god of war hole on the platform) or sell a lot.
They also have plans on how much they think a game will sell and give the title budget accordingly. They even have plans on what date to release what movie or screenshot. Thats how it goes in this business. Its not Dice's concern how much a game sells (well not to the extend of: Getting bread on the table), thats EA's product managers concern. EA pay's DICE wether the game sells or not. If EA feels DICE is not needed anymore they close them down. Like the NFS studio.
And to stress this out: Im not saying that they wont accept an offer. But its a feeling I got they wont. I do know that they plan how a year goes. Its what all company's do. Even more so in a recession.
And 1000 bucks will hardly feed anyone in DICE. You know what you get payed when you're in there and how many of 'm are in there?
Not obliging these can and most certainly will get you fired putting you in more trouble of the food on the table kind. Refers to the example where a DICE or EA (cant remember wich one) employee spilled some beens on something like a release date or a movie that was not meant to be released. There's loads of examples like these troughout the games industry.
EDIT:
Oh forgot this
Its weird though that you say you cant expect this to happen and you also claim no business has a plan? How do you see company's operate without a plan and without going: Oh just try this and that and it will come down nicely.

Re: BF2 Patch 1.5 beta is knocking at the door...
Even if we were allowed to run 128p servers it would need the latest hardware for
the servers,clients and a fat connection.There is a reason why the view distance
on most PR maps is limited.Of course compared to the 30m (literally) on the new DICE map ~1km is huge.
For people who like the different assets - check out some of the other bf2 mods (Aix2/USI/Assault mod/Poe2/opk) and there is also (of course) PRSP that can be played in Coop mode - gets you all the assets
you want.PRSP (Single player mode only,no 1.5 Coop servers yet) seems to work with the new patch btw.
