"Look over there" markers.
I looked through the *** thread and found something related but the link just goes to the forums. I did a lazy search and found nothing.
I was playing on Archer and this guy in my squad said there was an enemy behind a tree near a Humvee at 150 degrees and I thought, "Is it possible for Squad Members to have the ability to place an "Observe" marker on something like a Squad Leader?"

good idea i think,
make them so they dissappear after say 10secs or when the person dies!

Good idea. I like everything which helps teamwork to be the best as possible experience.

Re: "Look over there" markers.
-This would finally put an end to my "lead scout SLing", if my SMs could actually point stuff out. Could replace the "Contact Report" for non-SLs. Considering that engineers can drop mine markers this will hopefully be possible(Not "hardcoded to SLs/COs only" stuff). Some potential for spamming but if it's got a 5-10 second life time and an identical cooldown period that shouldn't be too difficult. And there's always the trusty kick button

IRL you can't place markers and it is just as hard to point out someone as it is in the game, so I say leave it to the squad leader, and next time just look in the direction he is talking about and you should be able to see his tracers.

Hmm. I can see where your going with this but I dont agree a full 100%. In real life I can tap one of my guys on the shoulder and point. You are also trained in spotting (guessing distance for example) and describing. So thats easier.nick20404 wrote:IRL you can't place markers and it is just as hard to point out someone as it is in the game, so I say leave it to the squad leader, and next time just look in the direction he is talking about and you should be able to see his tracers.

Ya but in high stress situations these things are not as simple as they would seem, and telling multiple people exactly where the target is isn't always a sure thing. Imagine bullets flying 50 guns going off around you and everyone yelling to each other its not that easy to just simply point out something and everyone instantly focuses on it. In reality the information is just as vague as you get in game sometimes, here is a video to show some examples of the confusion in battle.[R-COM]cyberzomby wrote:Hmm. So is this possible with the BF2 engine?

Than you would be paying attention and know where your Squad mates are looking and who is speaking, Put those 2 factors together and you will look in the same direction and hopefully see the humvee he is looking at. creating markers for each squad mate would just clutter up the screen and its less realistic, if anything the SL marker should be removed and be only visible on the mini map/field map.Engineer wrote:If there isn't any confusion?
It doesn't need to be used if bullets are flying over your head, in that case it's already too late... I'd see this useful before the combat is taking place, not when actually while in a combat.

Like this??
The Idea is for squad members to be able to communicate positions which is difficult at best in game...
I like this Idea though I doubt it will ever be implemented.
To add to this Idea. I would say that the markers placed by SM's should be exactly like the Current SL 'Observe' marker which can be placed without any Audible. This would cut down on the 'SPAM' if it just made a marker appear without making any cute noise that they like to hear over and over and over..... like "There blowin us away!!" and "SHASHKA!!" (my personal favorite)

I think small markers that don't last a long time would be good, although I don't know about the realism side of it. Plus it would cause a lot of visual clutter on screen.

I was considering bringing something like this up, but I was not sure if it was possible to do a marker for people other than the SL. (engine wise) Would be a good idea though.

To stop the clutter maybe just one marker for all the SM. If someone places a new one the old one (no matter which SM placed it) dissapears.
