How about covering different eras

Post by Cassius »

Project reality is more than most mods imo, which merely replace the ingame models. Therefore it would be nice if the mod could cover different eras in the future, such as the vietnam war or even WW II, so that you can play in those scenarios the PR way. Why limit it to a specific era ?

For a vietnam era setting for example a lot of the models such as the huey etc. are in game already. The only real problem I see is that the game itself would become even larger, but in the age of terabyte drives and fast internet it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Before somebody says community modding the idea is to make different scenarios in time an integral part of PR so it has the same player base/partecipation.

I know it would be a lot of work to do the additional factions and the 5 or so additional maps to cover an era, keep in mind though its a suggestion and maybe something that can be picked up at a later time when all else has been done around the mod.

Do you have any idea how long it would take to create a WWII scenario from the scratch, for example? Do you follow the development of Forgotten Hope 2? Now take a guess why it's taking them so long. ;)

The only plausible one I can imagine is the Gulf War, and who would want to play as the Iraqis?

FH2 and EoD fulfill my needs :D

considering the amount of work being put in to the mod for just modern battlefields, it would be unfair to ask for the last 100years of war in one mod...

Only way to do it would be a community mod of other mods, WITH THEIR PERMISSION OFC

Well, if you'd post a concept in the community factions section you might, might, get a team for a community mod in a different era. Be that vietnam, ww2, ww1, the roman empire or whatever. I'm sure as long as its done well the dev's would include it. But the Dev's won't do it.

Vietnam would be very popular, I'd certainly love it.

Know what I'd love to see? Napoleonic mod. Each player represents 10 troops, who are modelled standing next to him. He walks forwards, they walk forward (althoug animations would need to be offset so they weren't ridiculously synchronised).

Then as the player's "health" deteriorates, his clones fall to the ground leaving the rest of the troop standing until it's just him left, who then dies with the next shot.

Weapons would be inaccurate beyond 100m or so.

Howizters, field guns and mortars could all be included, and cavalry of maybe 4 horses per player...

Formations would be changeable, allowing you to spread your player avatar's troops into a line or a square as needed, and your weapon would be 10 bayonets or 10 muskets, as needed, each firing from their "real" position.

It's almost certainly utterly impossible with the BF2 engine... but how much fun would it be to have 640 player-controlled models line up against each other and blaze away until one side crumpled?! :D

And for each 10% of health you lose, you lose one troop?

that would be awesome, but (actually being serious here Masaq :wink :) a game engine like sacrifice would be a better platform.

I always thought MMOs should go in that direction as well tbh.

You know what would be even more epic...

A western mod, in BF2. Could you imagine it, moving trains, horses, carriages, armored carriages, hand-cranked gattling guns, SAA, lever-action rifles... It would be dreamy. You could have objectives like calvary fighting bandits and stuff like that.

the only past wars i would want a PR style appraoch to is, Vietnam, and the first world war, for ww2 i can get my fill with FH1942, havent yet tried FH2 yet.

holy cripes, i can imagine it now, me a 30 players on the brit team advancing through deep mud will getting moved down by german mortars and machine guns! take the hill lads! no falling back. if ww1 reality mod was ever made, it would be pretty epic to try.

vietnam reality mod.....CHARLIES, CHARLIES FLANKING OUR LEFT. WE NEED ARTILLERY HERE NOW!! FIRE FOR AFFECT FIRE FOR AFFECT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

yeah...the BF franchise needs more rain and mud, or deep thick jungles. lets face in BFV had jungles but they weren't that thick, and i want thick

The only other era PR could do is WW2 but only if they could trick the FH team to share stuff because It would probably take 1 year to get a all the models built for WW1 and Vietnam

Well okay maybe in future releases the Vietnam era can be covered, with the vietnam era usa and the Vietcong or the NRA being new factions. Who is considering doing mods based on BF2 such as a WWII mod could do it around PR instead.

Just found this thread here and yes, it would be interesting to see something this "unusual" in PR. Unfortunately, people always have the need of making fun of someones idea. I thought suggestions here were meant to be discussed...

I Myself would like to see a PR version of the "Falklands War" that happened during 1982
More info can be found here

Falklands War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think it would be good fun and we would have an excuse for the Harrier Jump jet at last

Would be cool to see all that green and rocky landscape of Goose Green.

Plus. as far as I know. Nobody has made a game/mod about that era. Not everything has to be about WW1, WW2, Vietnam.

PS, thanks CodeRedFox
