We are looking at everything the wrong way, we need to forget about politics ond focus on whats fun to play and still realistic. MEC should defenetly be a specific contry imo, but as for one contry i think several things should be taken into consideration.

What contry `could` end up in a war with China against the US/UK?
What contry has a half decently organised army?
What contry has a decent ammount of weaponary and technolagy that would make the middle-eastern side more fun to play?

I personaly don't see a problem with naming a faction as a real world power. Its only a game. PR are doing it, RPK did it. Hell, BF2 did it. Just becasue there's tensions between certain countries, doesn't mean they can't be played out in game.

I was actualy thinking the same thing.

Iran does have a reasonably large Armed Force, two types to be exact the Artesh and Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, IRGC.

They have an extensive ammount of land, air and sea equipment.

I think any arguments that we shouldn't use a specific country's name have to be given full weight.

On the one hand I can clearly see that the very fatc we refer to the PLA (an actual force) being attacked by the USMC shows we are 'ok' with the game representing conflict between 2 peaceful powers. On this basis, creating another power (Iran/Egypt etc) and having a fictional conflict must be seen as acceptable, as we have used China without any problems.

However, the other side to the coin is that 'we' (the US and UK) are not going to go to war with China in the foreseeable furture and so the issue is desensitised. The Middle East on the other hand is a very flammable area which is very sensitive to players (and non players) of this mod. I think the views of these people must be taken into consideration.

I also do not believe a 'terrorist' force should be brought in. In my mind, the world is seeing far to much of an acceptance towards violence against terrorism - for example some American troops using the term Hadjiis interchangeably with target. Furthermore, I hear some nice funny chat (by me

) quite often of a Jihad and this is fine and jovial when meant in this light. I fear that a terrorist force would change that, and we hear US guys saying "I'm going to kill somke ragheads" etc.

Essentially, I think we need the DEVs to self censor the mod, as nobody else will, to stop the violent spread of stigmatic feelings

Wouldn't the best choice be India? Since india acually posesses a number of T90s and Su30MK1s.

My thoughts: The formation of a Middle Eastern Coalition as organized as somthing like the EU is impossible. The only way there could even be a military alliance is if it involved destroying Israel.

So, we either have some form of MEC, and it's a WW3 scenario with Iran starting it by attacking Israel, or we have a loose orginization of middle eastern countries we are fighting against. I like the second thing better. And I am FOR adding a terrorist faction at some point. Fuck being politically correct, I'm gonna be realistic. If we are in the middle east in a huge miltary operation, there will be a terrorist guerilla force attacking us in some ambush sort of thing.

Edit: You know what? WASP works best. Middle East is kind of a Western term to the area, we only specify a geographic area, and it highlights national armies and not any sort of insurgent group.

I disagree to a certain extent. First off, I'd like to treat the MEC as a soverign country. Not a joint collaberation of all middle-east nations to see the end of Israel. I would happen to think that the ultimate goal of the MEC is to establish power within the middle-east without excepting western standards and influences. The middle-east does share a number of western influenced contries. Such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia etc. These nations are alot more wealthier and such than nations such as Iran and India etc. So the purpose of the MEC could be to show the world that the middle-east does not need the assistance of the west to become strong and wealthy nation.

India would remain nutural. China is a competitor for fule and Pakistan and India are not extrimist contries, i know alot of Pakistani Muslims and Indian Seik's in Britian too.

I got bored, so I made up a story of how the MEC came to be. If it's liked, I can always add the inclusion of the PLA to the war.

Oh, and I could do with a name for <InsertNameHere>.

As the ongoing struggle for peace escalated in the Middle Eastern theatre, the US and UK goverments realised it was time that a single leader was elected to take charge of the shattered nations accross the east. After a brief search, <InsertNameHere> was elected leader of the newly formed Middle Eastern Union, taking command of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia.

It seemed the reign of this new goverment was the solution to all problems. The shattered Middle-East began it's rebuilding process, and all was well. Insurgency was at an all time low and the newly formed Middle Eastern Coalition proved to be a prolific fighting force. Taking aid from Europe and America, they built a fierce fighting force. It wasn't long after that Europe and America decided to release it's grasp on the Middle East and recalled most of their military units deployed in the area. The new government was such a success that it wasn't long before India, Turkey and Pakistan joined the Union as well as other minor, neighbouring countries. Israel remained firmly against the union.

As Western intervention declined, the political strain in the East once again escalated. Tensions between Israel and the Union grew to an all time high. As insurgent attacks on the Israeli capital resulted in the deaths of several military and government officials, all fingers were pointed at <InsertNameHere>. To the horror of the US and UK governments, a huge night time assault took place on Israel. The now well established MEC marched accross Israel border. During the assault, British and American forces guarding the area were slaughtered, as well as countless soldiers and civilians who crossed the paths of the MEC. Israel's government soon after surrendered. All Israeli militants were publicly executed in front of their families. On a live, televised broadcast, <InsertNameHere> finally announced Israel was to be a part of the union.

The news spread around the world like wildfire. The losses to both the American and British sparked an outcry in goverment. Just hours later, both countries declared war on the Middle Eastern Union. Forces were dispatched within the day and borders were created accross Africa and Eastern Europe. The war had begun.

That goes back to the political correctness of today. We can't call the enemies we fight today ragheads, yet it was perfectly acceptable to refer to Vietnamese as zipperheads, Japanese as Nipps, Germans as Krauts, Americans as Yanks and so on. Only now can we no longer mock the opposition for fear of offending someone. Fine to kill them though.

Well their inclusion to the story would probably come later. When the US and UK start trashing up the MEU countries, China intervenes for the sake of defending the oil. After ambushing some British forces in Iraq they realise they're in the war full time (map idea anybody? Middle East city map with China vs UK

The only way China gets in the war is by invading Taiwan, thus provoking U.S and possibly U.K intervention. With the time alotted by the war, the MEC (or whatever name is decided on) forms to prevent nations from exploiting middle-east soil by the wars end. I don't actually think the MEC and China are actually super friendly. Rather they are most likely share a mutual agreement for oil and other trade items.
