"PunkBuster" - Petition PLEASE READ

Post by UK_Force »

Guys, if you where not aware ....

Windows 7 is just about to release its Release Candidate. At the moment Windows 7 is being BETA tested by thousands of people, which is proving to be a great product because of this. However Evenbalance who run PunkBuster will not support a "Beta OS", which is crazy, as they know its going to be the main OS very soon for the majority of the world.

Anyway thousands of Gamers who are testing Windows 7 - have been left "Gameless" because of this, and can not even test Windows 7 for online gaming etc, as PB are being a bit slow, and will not put a patch out.

If not sorted out Punkbuster will stop a lot more people from gaming ..... this is crazy that PB has a hold over so many games .... that people have paid for and can not play now ..... also when do you think they will "test" PB on Windows 7 ..... perfect time is now, as it may have issues, which will affect us ALL.

A windows 7 Gamer has asked for people to sign his petition, to get Evenbalance to listen, I am asking if you could all sign it as gamers, and pass it aound to as many people and gaming sites as possible, to give this petition some kind of weight ..... and hopefully give Evenbalance a "wake up call"

Thank you

UKF

Well, I think it is no argument to say, that they have payed for the games and cant play them now, because Win 7 is still Beta and everyone was told often enough, that som programs may not work. Here we are - PB does not work.

But the rest is absolutly right: Win 7 should be tested with games, otherwise there might appear problems once the OS is released. I signed the petititon ;-)

Something I never understand is why gamers think that developers should shell out money to support things beyond what the developers say they would support. I am looking at my BF2 box and it says nothing about Windows 7 being supported.

Windows 7 is beta. I am sure when it is not beta they will support it. Just because they aren't testing publicly, is not evidence they aren't testing it.

PR doesn't do large public betas anymore for a reason, maybe EvenBalance has a reason too.

I really don't expect Win 7 to be supported.
Especially not before it's released.

You guys really need some patience.
The only crazy thing is to run a BETA OS and expect it to be totally 3rd party supported.

Thats not really the point here, its about Evenbalance being involved in this whole BETA process, and ensuring it works, seing as they have a "hold" on gaming companies !!

I dual boot xp for gaming, but again its not the point.

ALL other major 3rd party software companies like NVIDIA / ATI etc etc have jumped on the WIN 7 BETA band wagon, and are chipping in to help, and have all created "WIN7 Beta drivers" etc, etc - all to ensure this OS works with their software .... by doing their own mini beta's at the correct time ?

Funnily enough like we are doing with the BF2 1.5 "BETA" patch, for you guys ?

It's just stuped to not support an a OS like Win7 that is going to be very popular... And is not good for business too, I'll guess that EA, Actavision and others will stop the use of PB if it doesn't support Win7 for the new games that are going to come out in this and the next year...

Why should they be involved in a BETA process? There is no technical reason to do so.
They will release a perfect working product when it's done. Before or after the release.
Additionally, it's not like they need to totally rewrite their software. Win7 is still just a slightly pimped Vista. There is really no need to start a petition drama.

It is much more important to make sure that dice makes this final BF2 patch win7 compatible! PB is not the problem here.
