Re: "PunkBuster" - Petition PLEASE READ
This petition is stupid IMHO and I'm not signing it.
They will surely make a patch when win7 hits the stores.
Why would a software company support a beta product is beyond my reasoning.
It's called a Beta for a reason.

I do hate to be a bit of a ******* and I mean no disrespect to any of the people signing this or not signing it.[R-DEV]UK_Force wrote:Thats not really the point here, its about Evenbalance being involved in this whole BETA process, and ensuring it works, seing as they have a "hold" on gaming companies !!
I dual boot xp for gaming, but again its not the point.
ALL other major 3rd party software companies like NVIDIA / ATI etc etc have jumped on the WIN 7 BETA band wagon, and are chipping in to help, and have all created "WIN7 Beta drivers" etc, etc - all to ensure this OS works with their software .... by doing their own mini beta's at the correct time ?
Funnily enough like we are doing with the BF2 1.5 "BETA" patch, for you guys ?
However if that is the feeling then can not the same argument be placed on PR itself? Shouldn't everyone test the new map Sangin? Iron Ridge? With each test or release that is used don't you do an open BETA to test the maps?
Of course not cause they might not be developed fully or up to standards, You do inhouse testing, closed testing, then when most of the major bugs are worked out then you move on to an open BETA to test for those unexpected 'players can break anything' bugs.
The fact that its not publicly supported doesn't mean they aren't working on it. Its in there best business interests -to- work on a product and get it in working order. They are an anti-cheat company and bugs in an anti-cheat company could lead to MAJOR issues such as getting PBbanned from all BF2 servers by a software glitch. All the more reason to make sure your non-public and controlled tests are completely sorted before you do an open world test.
As a gamer that is unable to game with a few friends because of the windows 7 beta I feel the pain however I also see the otherside of the argument. A petition forcing a rushed product that will require many emails to get your game working at anytime in the future is much worse then dual-booting or simply not using a BETA operating system.
Proof that cheese love is better then any other.

It's not the same... PB is an a anti-cheat software, it's needed so that games like (BF2, PR, CoD) can be played normaly. If PB doest not work for Win7, people that take gaming for real wont be able to use Win7, and the new games for Win7 wont be able to use PB and the hackers will have a great time!Cheesygoodness wrote: However if that is the feeling then can not the same argument be placed on PR itself? And not having open betas for new map, wont prevent players from playing normaly on the old map, and new maps don't limit the use of OS and anti-cheat software

nobody says its not gonna work with Win7 afaik.
they just do not support the beta - and this is understandable.

The fact is that Evenbalance can do whatever they please regarding the issue of Punkbuster incompatibility with Windows 7 while it is under beta state according to general Punkbuster license agreements.
Other fact is that it isn't very good customer policy not to offer any kind of technical aid for an OS that is becoming popular and commonly used. So all you can do is to wait and see when it will arrive officially. Of course you can sign the petition, but will it change anything is in their hands, as long as no-one is offering any alternatives.

I've inked my name and reason for this petition. I hope they reconsider, because I wouldn't want my favorite games not working while beta testing for the future.

Stuff didnt work on vista->I use XP again
Stuff will not work with windwos 7 -> I will keep using XP
I dont need windows 7 to run PR. arma and Hl2 mods. Xp is also good enough for firefox and Open Office. Why should I get windows 7? I dont get it? Because its new? Because it looks shiny?

This petition is bogus. Sorry, but it isn't a complete OS yet, it is a BETA software. Evanbalance is completely in the right to not support "faulty" BETA products. Simply, wopuld you want to be banned from every server because of a glitch in Windows 7 with PB? ANd guess what, chances are, that account would have to keep it...would you rather that?
Evanbalance can do what they want. Lose the BETA OS and actually use a paid-for version of Vista or XP until Windows 7.

Sorry not signing
1 - don't worry they will support it if the they see a future in PC gaming on Windows 7
2 - accept the risk (I'm sure it's in the EULA) of running a Beta about not being able to do lots of things - playing games just one of them. It's a Beta..
3 - After Vista came so close to being a Windows ME (wiki that kids) and there being a bit of an economic downturn they may not be looking at putting resources full tilt into an unproven product yet
4- If you don't have a separate XP machine to play on then why Beta anything on your PR rig?
Still running XP - still playing PR.. GB

mhh. theres some truth but me for example i have a currently badass ATI4870 1gb uber-mega-cool-stuff-over-powered graphic hardware but run it on the solid but tiny-old-outdated-restricted-poor directx 9. that makes me sad. win7 is all my hope to have better perfomance without the vista horror i can hear left and right.Tahanatos wrote:Stuff didnt work on vista->I use XP again

now i can smell the horror with PB if win7 is out and PB starts telling me it doesnt accept my OS.

I really don't know how many resources it takes to "support" a beta (product that
is not complete and will change many times before a release) product,PR and
the new BF2 patch is a good example. The patch is over a 1gb but the flight controls are broken and a fix is in the works (according to DICE producer).
So if PR or any other mod jumped on it with support - they would have waisted the
resources because there will be another beta patch(s) or at least a hot fix.
Now sure I'd like to play PR on my win7 box,but PB is not the only thing that does
not work,AMD Overdrive is major application that's not supported either, but will
be once Win7 is "official".Even balance got the new BF2 patch to deal with as well,
I don't think they're not supporting a beta product because they want to make
the gamers suffer. The economy is tough and resources are stretched everywhere,
Even balance is no exception.Besides Microsoft has a long history of releasing beta products as "finished" ones, there many sides to this story, other then juist
Even balance.I'll sign it if Evenbalance are just beeing dicks to the gamers, but something tells me otherwise.

I agree that it would be good for PB to be made for the Beta, but people left gameless, as you say, should have just installed the beta on a virtual machine.
