Garrison mode

Post by [S4C]Solo »

A mode where one team has a small area they need to defend, like a fort or something, but assault is better equipped. Hopefully to replace insurgent mode.

Dunno how to comment

Insurgency is a unique mod, thus the insurgents/taliban aren't just defending a not moving object, in fact a cage is quite different from a - well ure suggesting basicly a "King of the hill mode" with BLUFOR as the ones keeping the hill and Insurgents the Taking it away team, or the other way around :D , the insurgents do defend an object which is unique from a "Specific" object like a building as an objective

Im even quite sure it has been suggested before but im not sure

This has definetly been suggested a few time, not as a direct replacement for insurgency though.

As a new game mode would be awesome, but to replace insurgency would make a lot of people unhappy.

Seven Gates is kinda like it. If the PLA controls the river fort, they're defending that and if they're pushed back to the castle, they're defending that.

yeah, but in my mind i was imagining something like...

oh... you know the airport in basrah? Well I kinda always felt it was highly underused... > >

So maybe an actual defense... =) Sniper towers, and the such... ^_^

yeah...

=) I couldn't see it being super fun in pubs either...

OH!

I know!!

It'd be like something i would call "Forward Assault"

It'd be like "Counter attack" in a way, but also like AAS.. kinda.... maybe with trenches just because.. XD... going up hill... > >

Most maps with 'fortress' like structure to the mains end up for show than anything else. It would be nice to actually be able to use them in a defense as most are either uncaps and/or have a dome of death around them preventing the enemy from infiltrating the compound.

Nothing is going to replace insurgency mode. Specificly something like that. Insurgency is unique and a realistic game-mode. Not to mention a very popular one. If you feel like some assault and defend action. Just play AAS. You can assault the capture points and defend them so the enemy can't capture them. Same thing.

i think he means a game entirely about defense...

like... the enemy captures it..

what i could see is this

It's AAS in nature, the attackers move up the hill, attacking old trenches that were left there from WWII, and move up them into a fortress.

Once the attackers "capture" the fortress, the now defeated defenders get "reinforcements" and have to recapture the fortress..

=) It's like AAS meets Counter-attack...

but sometimes on random occasions the reinforcements never come... > > Thus ending the round...

=) That would make it so that people wouldn't just give up..

oh and for losing the fortress THE FIRST TIME, you lose a substational ammount of tickets

the next team that loses it loses half of what the first team lost

and so on so forth...

This has been suggested in the past and I was one of those to do so. I called it: Insurgency in Reverse. The insurgents would be on the offensive. Technically they would be Taliban and not insurgents, I guess.

My suggestion thread: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f18-pr ... er+company

The idea in my mind would be to have a large FOB that is being attacked by Taliban forces. The coalition troops would have to hold off the attackers. I am not able to talk about this type of game mode in the language of BF2 mechanics since I do not know enough about them. It would be up to the wonderful DEV team to make it a reality. In my mind the situation on the ground in Afghanistan mirrors this sort of scenario on occasion.

Engineer wrote:I really loved that one desert map, where you had to fight your way one area at the time towards the goal. Once area was captured it couldn't be reclaimed, thus the fighting was continuously happening at the front.

The famous 'gate' was a real fighting zone.. Who ever controlled it won the game. I think the map was renamed afterwards to 'operation desert storm'.

Though the gameplay was spammy and filled with rapid action, it was still fun concept. I'd really want to see some map like this again, but with possibility to really hold the defensive lines without needing to die over and over again.

If there is only one area to attack or defend, that's where all the squads are concentrated..
It was Fallujah. Back when the insurgents were still on AAS maps. And I totally agree; would love to see more maps like that.

Yea, where the defenders have only a small area they can roam in, becus some of the insurgent maps are like that but the insurgents still can go anywhere in 2 km.
