AP Ammunition?

Post by Ccharge »

Well i know that AP ammunition is avaliable for the .50 cal machine guns but im not sure if it is used by the (normal) factions. I think it would be a good idea to add AP ammunition to all .50 cal weapons in pr simply because when it comes down it, a squad without a AT4 or RPG that encounters a APC or AFV is screwed. The Humvees, land rovers, etc armed with 50 cals could be issued the ammunition so it could stand up a small but damaging fight against AFVs and APCs. The ap ammunition how ever would be very limited (2 boxes of it max) and cause a small amount of damage. maybe 10-25 shots for half a bar of health. This could benifit squads that are on the move or that lack any AT of some sort.

This IS out there AFAIK.

In vanilla, I took out an APC with a BH minigun, it should be along those lines. Say, 20 seconds of continuous fire can destroy a full-health tank, 10 for an APC.

Psshhhht...In vanilla, I killed a M1A2 Abrams with a grenade.

Edit,

@Charge, Assume that what is in the 50cal is already AP. They can already kill strykers, which are like pimped out hmmvs. If you can't kill some APCs, its obvious that the armor is think enough to deflect the 50cal round.

On a tactical note, if you see an APC and you don't have AT, I have 1 word of advice...RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The game is not about who can kill the most APCs. It is about completing your objective. However, if an Armor Vehicle is in the way of you completing your objective, then THAT is where the rest of your team fit in.

What are AFVs? Americas Funniest Videos? lol first thing I found in google. I think you meant IFVs. In terms of armor thickness. IFV's are comparable to some older main battle tanks, so if anything, 50cals can only scratch them.

From what I understand, All APCs are protected against .50cal rounds and most of them are protected against the 14.5mm round. All tanks since WW2 have been protected against .50cal round.

50cal penetrates something like over 30mm of steel IIRC, so bradely (at least from the front) will be more than safe, but lav25 or m113 are not safe. Heck m113's sides are even somewhat vulnerable to 7.62. And that's with regular rounds, not the AP versions.

Eh, I think they are fine how they are. No need to turn Humvees into APC killers.

10-25 to take down half the health? Thats more then what the 25mm AP rounds does in damage afaik.

How would a squad that's on the move bring a .50 machine gun? Sure you can carry it but afaik no infantry squad carry .50 cal machine guns with them.

So after ~50 12.7mm rounds an APC would just blow up/get disabled? If that's the case in reality I'm all for it, but somehow I doubt it.

At 500m the M903 .50 SLAP round will penetrate 34mm of conventional armour. This drops to 23mm at 1200m. So on paper the BTR-60 would be rapidly filled with holes source while even the mighty BMP-3 has reason to be worried as its side armour is only rated for 7.62mm rounds source

Also to consider is the M2 AP-Ball round which will penetrate 19mm of armour at 500m and 10mm at 1200m

source for .50 info

Also, bear in mind that the Warrior is considered unusually heavily armoured for an IFV because it can withstand 14.5mm rounds to the frontal armour.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Canuck - AFV = Armoured Fighting Vehicle = any tank, APC, IFV etc. Infantry Fighting Vehicle is a better armed and armoured APC.

And can .50 rounds hurt a Stryker? I thought not.

EDIT: Wikipedia says that the Stryker's armour is 14.5mm resistant. source
