Map sugestion- Al-Faw-iraq

Ive been having some free time lately so i had the idea to go check some areas at google earth for some good spots for maps in PR. I found a great place north east of Al-Basrah the town of Al-Faw, it is split by a river going through it which is actually the same one going past Al-Basrah. Al-Faw is located at the Persian gulf and it had a great strategic meaning during the Iran-Iraq war. Looking at the satelite view the town seems to have a large refinery, lots of small farms and a city center whit mosques and the Al-Faw palace. The town was heavily bombed in the gulf-war but i dont in what shape it is now, theres still some numbers of allied (British? not sure :confused troops in the area but its being given back to the Iraqi coast guard.

Heres some scenarios i have worked for this map

British armed forces vs. Iraqi insurgents (yes lets think the situation has got bad)

Scenario-1. The Insurgents hold the entire Al-Faw peninsula and the British are hold back at the sea in a carrier(i hope we can have it like that i myself would be fully fine whit the essex being used by the Brits and if you dont like this skip to scenario number two.)The brittish must land to the peninsula whit RIBs or any other vehicles that might be available in the carrier, after getting a footstep in the beach the British must construct a firebase or cap a possible flag if it could be made in to the insurgency game mode, and after that hunt for caches in the area.

Scenario-2. The British have a base at the beach where they are given Land rovers and possibly APCs but no main battle tanks. From the base the British go and search for caches as in any other insurgency map.

Scenario-3. In the case its not possible for the British to have a carrier The role will be given to USMC, from there everything will go as in scenario one, The Marines are equpped whit HMMWs and a stryker or two. From the carrier the marines will have transport hueys and possibly littlebirds regarding that this map will contain urban terrain but no armed helicopters for it would be kinda unfair for the insurgency.

I know it is but what my computer is build for is certainly NOT mapping =P and neither am myself as much as id like to be. Im pretty certain that if id understand a bid of coding id give it a shot, but until now id just like to know what people think of this idea because i spent a lot of time doing this, thanks for the link anyway ill pay it a visit but what did you like about the idea?

its an allright idea mate. but the map looks simple. and by simple, i mean its probibly got limited gameplayability. however your talking a very easy looking map, as

(A) Most if not all the statics required for IRAQ are allready in the current build.
(B) The google earth map depics a very simple design in my opinion.

In fact, that map looks like a good example for a beginner mapper to muck about with. But mapping takes a long time to learn, and an even longer time to get it looking pretty.

I'm sure your intention was to bring this area to a good mapper's attention so he could try his hand at it. But you rob yourself of the unique chance at making the map your own way. You dont need to be a Brain to map stuff, you just need to be Uber

lol yea they can be tough. most mappers are busy mapping and doing projects of their own, but i believe a lot of them are available to give pointers to new guys. just post up i question i guess. it was tough for me to understand things like colision meshes and terrain resolutions cus there was nobody to tell me, but , im geting there

well i am planning to get a new computer this spring so maby i could start doing some studying whit my budd that understands these things better

Read the book "Armed Assault" as the British invasion of Iraq in 2003 was directed on the Al Faw Penisula. I drew up some ideas for a map when I used to be around the forums quite a bit and had time to dedicate to mapping. Smeg set up a thread about HMS Ocean (the British equivilant of the USS Essex which is not a carrier, more an assault ship.) and I started to work on the map. However due to work and collage, time was a big issue so I never finished it. I'll see if I can dig up the old thread...

EDIT: British forces pulled out of Iraq yesterday so there may be some questioning if this map is realistic anymore...
