You know it begs the question. What happens when your sliding down a hill? Lets say your driving your vehicle down a steep hill? Suddenly you hold in the button and the 'recoil' starts going off. Basically anytime a vehicle is not -flat- and more vertical? Anyone see someone holding the button in to long, the recoiling piling up and then you hear a sudden alarm...

Whaaaar Whaaaar Whaaar warning warning takeoff in 3, 2, 1... Whaaar WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH! The vehicle gets launched backward up into the air in a space-ship fashion....

That's pretty impossible... the recoil happens immediately, it's not like if you click for a long time it gets more power.

Actually it is usually better to click and release once or twice depending on the situation.

Eh depends on the recoil coding. I've done it on two or three other BF2 mods with recoil like this.

Not saying -this- would or wouldn't. Just that it'd be funny as hell if it worked like those other ones.

this one doesn't, it only slowly pushes the vehicle backwards

Not to dis the idea, but I don't see the point in this. Seems a bit vanilla to me, the same thing can be accomplished working the accelerator around turns. Seems straight out of that racing mod for BF2.

Not to dis your comment but realize that in a humvee....theres a handbrake. Hence Realism.

Plus it would just be pretty fun drifting. I would be the FIRST ONE to make a video.

I didn't say they didn't have a handbrake. As for realism, give me a brake (doh!). I've seen many instances of HMMWV's drifting around.

Your comment alone is argument enough NOT to include this "feature". Like I said, vanilla.
Keep it in SP and make all the vid's you want.

Still doesnt prove how it makes the handbrake look vBF2...its brake for christs sake

it makes the brake similar to something bf2 could have done, because it makes the vehicle able to drift around corners and similar and to be honest i highly doubt that soldiers would be driving around with the speeder floored and then drifting around the corners to escape.
i like the ability to stop the vehicle fast which is quite nice, but if we want a handbrake it should be to stabilize the vehicle not to drift around corners.
good work on the code onil, but i really don't see the practical value of this ingame even though it is pretty cool.

A) Go into a side drift or (i've only managed to achive this once under controled conditions)
B) just spin out
the handbrake is an emergency brake thats why some people refer to it as the e-brake.

Exactly... and people are missing the point of this.

The Point is that you can stop the vehicle as you're suppose to when you brake. Something that BF2 vehicles don't do, they just drift forward even if you click backwards right away.

And the drifting can be configured !! Which means you can pretty much reduce it to a point where it isn't that useful anymore or at least not as extensive.

Of course not, and you won't see the FAAV in PR for sure but this was tested on PR SP since it is easier to mod there. Even thought i also tested on local server on PR.

The drift is tweaked vehicle wise so each vehicle can be configured accordingly to it's realistic reaction to the handbrake.

I tested the above configuration on the HMMWV and it works great.

I wonder if theirs anyway to change this because in real life you car will not move backwords it might rock up and down form the ineria but I dout it would move backwords anyway I would love to see this in the next version maby the devs can play around with it and improve it because I can't count how many times I'v died because holding down 'S' doesn't realy work it's like trying to stop youself falling when you have already jumped off the cliff.

I'm sure some of the military advisers can tell you how much drift you can get outta some of these vehicles, then you can probably make an educated guess as to how it effects other vehicles that they might not have experience with in that sense. I wouldn't imagine that drifting hummers round the streets of Ramiel is exactly condoned by officers and the like, but I'm sure plenty of military drivers do piss about a bit.

Anyway if it can serve as a fully functioning proper handbrake to keep vehicles still then it'll be very useful, is there any way of making it so handbrake is 2 "weapons" instead of 1? So one fires forward and the other back? Or would that just end up with the brake doing nothing?

I can smell an exploit here. How quick does it go backwards when holding S and the PIFire? I mean, when its enough power to stop the vehicle from full speed to zero in like what, 15 feet, it should be more than enough power to do a JATO-styled acceleration, but backwards

I like the idea of handbrakes and always thought about adding one. The guys over at Surreal have done a pretty good approach on this but it never felt right. Can't wait to try your version one day. If it works out, why not put it into a release

Well i tweak it so the HMMWV wouldn't drift too much and it still brakes properly. Currently it does move backwards slowly when you brake while being stopped but i bet that can be fixed.

Having a second recoil from the back at the same time would indeed not work. However you can setup so that the back recoil only activates if the vehicle is stopped (meaning it has no throttle) so that you only get recoil from the back when you're stopped and it would keep the vehicle from moving backwards slowly do to the forward recoil. However, im not sure if this would keep the vehicle still.

I guess it is something that can be tested.

Ok, here you go. Only do this on PR SP !

Go into your

Battlefield 2\mods\pr_sp_08\objects

and change the name of the objects_server.zip so that you keep the original.

Then download this version and place it in that same folder.

The only vehicles that i added the handbrake are:

jeep_faav
usjep_hmmwvm2
usapc_stryker

I suggest that you try the hmmwv.

To use the handbrake first click "F" and then you can brake with your right mouse button. If you don't click the "F" key first, the right mouse button will only drop the ammo crate.

For some reason you can't drop ammo with the right mouse button even if you click "F" again but if you leave the driver seat and get in it again you will be able to drop the ammo crate again.

The recoil can still be tweaked, maybe it should be a bit less since vehicles don't usually stop right away and still drift a bit but i will leave that up to you guys to comment on.
