Sniper Breath Volume and Bracing

Post by Nasdaq »

Two minor suggestions I didn't see on the list. Might have missed the second one, cus I don't think I can be the only one to think of it, but still.

Firstly, simply a request on perhaps turning up the sound of the sniper breathing when readying a shot. Might be just me, but I have a hell of a time hearing it over squad chatter and other sounds, and it can be somewhat annoying. Love the mechanic, just wish it was a bit louder.

Secondly, not sure if possible, but being able to brace a weapon against something. Specifically things like automatic rifles and machineguns, rather then having to go prone to brace them.

Both good ideas but i doubt bracing in possible with the bf2 engine. If it was possible im sure the devs would have worked to put it in. I mean who wouldnt wanna rip apart there enemys with a saw from a window sill? its really to bad.

The sniping i couldnt tell because i never snipe.
if you miss him... try, try again

As Ccharge mentions, bracing doesn't seem possible with the BF2 engine. :)

However, in the next PR patch, you can technically "brace" or deploy, is a better term, in any stance. So you can have your weapon deployed standing up, allowing you to shoot through windows with great accuracy and power, for the Automatic Rifleman kit. :)

A louder sniper breath might be nice. I don't do much sniping myself, but if I'm standing next to fire for cover on Ramiel, it would be hard to hear my breathing. And I concur, that handy mechanic is great and immersive.

Welcome to the PR forums. :)

First, the sound could be turned up a little bit but i hope everyone who snipes knows the breathing doesnt do anything other than count out 6 seconds (which is how long it takes to fire a shot once you stop moving AND are proned), i do not know the times for crouching and standing, crouch is prolly like 8 and stand is probably like 10, so if you just count out 6 seconds in your head than you really dont need to use the breathing sound at all.

Second i agree with the "bracing" idea and it definitely isnt possible in the BF2 engine but what is possible is having the sniper have 2 modes like the SAW (4 is deployed, 3 is for moving), that same concept would work perfectly here and i really hope they do this, because if you do add the deployed sniper mode instead of 6 seconds it could be 3-4 seconds before you can fire.

BTW thank you Nasdaq for bringing that idea out of my head. (It is easily possible and i think would be a great addition to this game)

Ps. Why did you guys get rid of the gillie suits on the forest or rural maps, every question i ask about it just doesnt seem to have a legitimate answer?

because the only thing that renders at a distance is the model, the Gillie is kit, so like grass it doesn't render at range

At the end we'd end up with Project Hello Kitty where everyone hugs each other and the only way to die is getting beaten to death with fluffy balls.

The sound of him holding his, breath is there to give you, a idea of how long it takes to get 95% aiming you, don't need to hold the key down to get this aim its just there to help you, if you just ran and flopped to the ground and trying to get a pop shot off.

I guess they could make it louder if you truly think it would help

well i mean i really don't care that much because i just count 6 seconds usually anyways but i do back up this idea for everyone else who does need it

and yea that is definitely a legitimate answer thanks for clearing that up grim

can you actually touch base on why in .85 when you pick up a kit on the opposition you wear their helmet now too....every other release wasn't like this, is it a bug, or do Taliban/insurgents actually do this to throw the coalition forces off

YouTube - Project reality 0.85 sniping guide

As you can tell, that breathing cue is only if u move ur body. Not after each shot u take mate. its 4 seconds after each shot, so u can count in ur head, its not that hard.

were talking about the opposition wearing the other teams helmets when you pick up a kit, thanks by the way for getting back to me on that one

and yea i know its only when i stop moving and is it really 4 seconds after every shot....if i dont move i seem to have perfect accuracy if i just move the scope slowly instead of (for use of a better word) whipping it around, maybe i just never noticed because it takes 4 seconds or more to find someone.

ps. chuc if you know any desert combat guys from the original bf mod you should talk to them about the helmet thing, they were able to re-code it so instead of picking up the entire kit you would just pick the gun up maybe that would help you guys find a solution to the bug.

As a sniper I have to ask, why on the gods' green earth are you in a squad with the sniper rifle?

Dv83r wrote:Isn't there a way we can get around this quote "engine limitation". The Devs could script each weapon to where there isn't any recoil but you move very slowly, like they could work on the Prone one to where it's stand crouch, and prone. Likewise, when you are standing still you have perfect accuracy like you where in a window sill. But there ways to abuse this function also . . .
yea there is they figured it out already, just look at any deployable machine gun, use the same system here for the sniper except allow it to be used in crouch and prone only and i think it would simulate that perfectly...did people just not read my post, i mean personally i think that would solve the sniper bracing issue, i dont really care about every other class because once they add the irons on the acogs for americans (im guessing 2 versions down the line) it wont really matter because i will most likely be moving but for the sniper it definetly does matter and making a similar solution to the one used on the saw i think would work great.
