[Question] M4 - M16A4 Differences.
Are there any differences between the two as it is?
I haven't really noticed anything significant when using them, but are there any real differences between the two ingame, or are they basically the same gun with different models?
Logically the M16A4 should be more accurate, and have less recoil than the M4, but be slower to move around in close quarters and have slower target aquisition due to the weight.
I guess ingame that last one would translate as a slightly increased settling time for deviation.
So what's the deal?

I remember reading elsewhere that at present the two are identical, game wise. This, as you point out, unrealistic; and it would be incredibly easy to model the differences using the BF2 engine -qaiex wrote: Logically the M16A4 should be more accurate, and have less recoil than the M4, but be slower to move around in close quarters and have slower target aquisition due to the weight.

Adding a small amount of pitch / yaw deviation to the M16 would reflect it being harder to "bring to bear" because of its length. Increasing bullet-drop, and "damage bleed due to range" would also reflect the M4's shorter barrel.
Lowering the max move-dev, but increasing the max fire-dev would help model the convenience of a more compact weapon, as well as the fact that the smaller and lighter barrel make for less accurate shots. The same could be done for some of the other games / carbines in the game to create a greater variety of "feel" in the weaponry available.

Re: [Question] M4 - M16A4 Differences.
Well, Basically the M4 is just a shorter version of the M16, except that M4 is better for close quarter combat due to the reduced weight and size.
If you compare the M4(link) and the M16(link) the differences only lies in the muzzle velocity, muzzle energy and size of the gun, every other specifications remain somewhat the same(according to source).
Yes, the M16A4 and M4 in-game might only have a slight difference between them, but they exist to make the game more realistic by implementing what they do use IRL(E.g. Marines generally uses the M16A4 and the army generally uses the M4)

Yep, the in-game M16A4 and the M4 have the same deviation values and projectile type. The only differences between them are cosmetic. I believe it was done for balance reasons, and for the sake of simplicity/playability.

Re: [Question] M4 - M16A4 Differences.
Why can we have the M4 or M4A1 in the PR and not only the M16A1. I am getting sick by only using the boring M16A1, cant we have the officer, enginner and one of the rifleman can have an M4 or M4A1?
It would be very nice with an full-auto rifle on the usmc team....
And it was another thing, why cant the brithis forces have the scar or scar-l, scar-r or the newst scar i saw at "future weapons".
And could we make two new teams?
i think it would be cool with:
-Terrorist against FBI or SAS, SEALs and the SWAT..... ?
That would be realy cool.....
Those who think this idea was realy cool, can message me on hotmail.... my hotmail or msn adress is:

i'm no expert (check location) but i thought US doctrine was against (or discouraged) automatic rifles amongst regular infantry units since vietnam, someone can probably correct me on this though
and as for the brits with SCARs never really heard anything about that myself, and i don't think future weapons is that reliable a source
on topic though, it would be nice to have subtle differences between the two rifles, personally the more differences between the factions the better making each ones fighting ability different and unique.

The m16A1 is not ingame that is the m16a4, the m4a1 is only issued to special forces iirc

you are right, full auto for regular infantry issued M16/M4 was removed after vietnam. from the expierience gained in that war, US military realized that full auto was a big waste of ammunition, because soldiers in the heat of combat somtimes just shot whole mags on enemy with no effect. furthermore, from conducted tests it was proven that anything longer than a 3 round burst it inaccurate

Re: [Question] M4 - M16A4 Differences.
I thought so, they felt like the same weapon.
I think they should make the M16A4 more accurate, currently both the G3 and the QBZ has it beat. Just a few minor tweaks to emphasize the differences between a rifle and a carbine.

there is not one thing right with what you said.
1. m4 is in PR
2. m4a1 is used by US SF not regular forces, so no.
3. its m16a4
4. us army use m4 in game, also fuzz said USMC officer will get m4.
5. the british forces are not, and will not (atleast in near future) use any SCAR variant, so no.
6. its project reality, not project 1337 forces. the DEV's are concentration on large scale conventional forces (plus all are resuggestions)

I know they did use the calssic M16 in the Vietnam war.... but the point is that i want an M4 that shoots auto...Sars99 wrote:/facepalm, all sounds way to spec-opsy for me

And in the reality the SCAR(i mean the newes verson, dont think you have seen it yet) is coming in about 1 year for the USMC and the British forces

Mate, you better come out with some wicked sources that prove all these.thebigkiller1256 wrote:I know they did use the calssic M16 in the Vietnam war.... but the point is that i want an M4 that shoots auto...

The M4 is burst/semi automatic.
The M4A1 is full auto.
The M4 is what is used by the regular soldiers in the US Army, and will not be replaced by the M4A1 anytime soon.
The British use the L85 as shown in game, and have no reason to go the SCAR as it normally an SF weapon.
Again please source everything you say, and I shall bite back everything I say.

In case people don't know, the M4's draw time is actually .5 of a second quicker than the M16A4's, and thus also making it the fastest weapon to draw among the primary assault rifles.

Re: [Question] M4 - M16A4 Differences.
The M16 does more damage ingame IIRC, it fires the ingame 5.56 rifle "round", while the M4 fires the CQB 556 round, which damages some 1-3 HP less.Source (V .8 i think...)
EDIT: while we're on it, is there any Gameplay difference between the AK74, and the AK74M?

Re: [Question] M4 - M16A4 Differences.
The differences are much more apparent due to them both using different calibers as well as each having unique animation (therefore timing is different) sets and not to mention unique sights.
