Possible removel of Fog?
i have searched the already suggested suggestions and found that my idea hasn't been mentioned.
So my idea is ( if possible ) . Remove the fog and replace it with blurriness. I hope that large distances would be viewed as blurry to the eyes and focused with optics/binoculars, Like in real life .
This idea came into my head , when i was thinking about the "Fire and Forget" capabilities of the Apache and how the Fog of the Bf2 engine limits that.
Please ......constructive criticisms
It's not a bad idea.

Check dat sh*t auwt
With many of the new maps, it can become very taxing on systems, and "blurriness" isn't necessarily realistic in itself. You'll loose quality of vision, but that's because it's far away, and a bush could take up a pixel of your screen when it's 2 km away.

Bluryness in as iff the eye isn't focusing on it would be better than fog methinks, but the fog exists to keep performance up

Re: Possible removel of Fog?
fog is to cover up the draw distance...
"blurriness" would not, it would mean things far away MUST be drawing in order to make them blurry, and as such defeats the point of what the fog dose and we might as well have super long draw distances as it would be easier on the GFX card to just draw stuff far away, rather than draw stuff far away AND having to add a blur effect onto them...

BlackMagic, i take it you have never played arma?
If you ask around, people can tell you that increasing your view distance in ARMA just by 500m in some instances can start a lag fest.
Alot of people are complaining as it is about some maps being so demanding like Ramiel because of lower end systems that doing what you propose would make their systems poop.
I think the reason why Kashan is the desert map with the highest visual distance over any other map is because there just arent any objects there. Less things can allow more view distance.

Re: Possible removel of Fog?
Hmm i see there is performance issues ....
, i suppose it would be possible in the future where better hardware is available. Good to know ....
And yeah i have not had the pleasure of playing ARMA , i was thinking of getting it , so i can play it with my clan. But however with the pending release of ARMA 2 , i was advised not to buy ARMA for the time being.
As with what i mean with blurriness , well the human eye does have it limitations when it comes viewing great distances.
If i am not mistaken , i think the Fog has been tinkered with by the AIX mod .... gonna have to look into that.
I do have some more ideas , not too far fetched..

Re: Possible removel of Fog?
Killarfromduty, HOW DARE U.
You should get a kick drop to your throat from me for that.
I have bought two copies of ARMA because i lost my first CD. Dont Fuc*ing compare me to pirates because i support my video games and buy them.
I have a quad core runnign at 3, and 4 gigs of Ram with a 9800GTX, and you can see a significant drop in FPS when increasing my view distance from 2500m to 4000m.
Even when increasing the distance from the standard 1000m to 2500m shows you how much more your system needs to work to get things running.

i suppose jonny , when it comes to the desert like Kashan and Engine Exhaust , i think we should take HEAT into account.Jonny wrote:Not if its working properly.
The human eye is limited in angular resolution, and by relative intensity of incoming light.
I think blurriness is not the right word I'm looking for
and Zak that is just awesome , something i am aiming for

Were not going get mad for you playing around as long as its not a cheatZAk wrote:Once i having curtailed game by Alt+Tab. When has again turned back in game i saw this:

It really comes down to NOT being able to render everything. No matter how super you think your video card is. The bf2 engine clips (removes) allot of thing in the game world when your not looking at it. If it were to keep everything ingame the level, even as small as Korengal, would lag ANYONE. If you notice in that screen shot the trees are only displaying out to less then 800m which is where the correct fog should start. So while you think drawing out the fog is cool and works your not taking in that the real GPU/CPU items are not showing and are still being clipped.
I wish I could do a test but your, mine, anyone video card couldn't handle it.LithiumFox wrote:

Re: Possible removel of Fog?
I'm for removing fog and lod, most PC's can handle it these days.
And now that I've started flying jets, the limitations of fog is made abundantly clear to me.
