BF2 finally gets deviation when going prone!

Post by Grasli »

Hey.

Believe it or not, BF2 will finally get deviation when going prone (like BF2142 have). This must be good for PR too, right? :D

"Added Battlefield 2142 style prone deviation - Fixed (going prone will now cause reduced accuracy for a brief period the same system BF2142 uses)"

WOOT! I was kinda impressed to see this though as Bazajaytee said earlier that this would require a massive rewrite which they didn't have time for. But anyway, its finally here (coming for 1.50 beta3/final).

There's still a lot of bugs in BF2, I know that, but I'm starting to feel that DICE are making up for the horrible Patch 1.3.. just a little ;)

What do you think guys?

The thing is that they say brief. They mean that once you go prone, you must wait a few seconds (just like now) in order for the soldier to ready his gun and aim down the sights. BF2 just can't do much with deviation other than what they are doing (they can't cause shaking, breathing, etc)

PR already has something like this in...

If it gives the team a new set of code for the modding scene to use, it could come in handy.

I've played 2142, and most people don't dolphin dive. They crouch instead. I think it works out better. :)

I think it's kind of them to work on the game some more, and put in some handy stuff we really need like widescreen and more than 2gb support. Makes it feel a little more up-to-date.

By trying too hard, we put ourselves at a greater risk. Don’t you think so?

Think its really cool.
Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

once this is in place for PR, would it cause further deviation i a sort of stacking effect or would the current coding cancel it out?

I loved racking up the kills on Karkand on vBF2...all the guys dolphin I just crouch and hit them in the face with my sniper from 10 yards away...I guess those times are gone ;(

This is a HUGE change...

Especially if the value is editible.

Will completely change way 0-100m engagements play out.

Untrue I believe, changing stance doesn't affect deviation as far as I can tell, only WASD and mouse movement. This is based on HAT use, but i don't see why it wouldn't apply to all weapons...

Hopefully this will be modable as Fuzz said. With the current deviation system I'm noticing prone spamming back again to a certain extent as it often seems to more effective to flop to the floor and fire a couple of secods later than to take a knee in shorter range engagements.
