Growing concerns with PR players.
I love this game, every aspect of it. However lately over the past while I've noticed many more people playing PR doing nothing to help their team, wasting assets and not having a mic.
As this game grows in popularity I'm concerned these trends will continue... I can handle people not having a mic, but people wasting assets and not working as a team just drives me crazy. Actually to be honest those who play without mics do as well.
This is a teamwork game people, play it properly or not at all. Don't have a mic? go buy one for 10 bucks.
The TG server has always been the one to hit up for good games... yesterday was a joke.

Hello, welcome to the forums.
There's been several threads like these, the problem comes and goes. You can bet when all the kiddies finish school for summer, this problem will get worse.
There is nothing you can do about this, the culprits that you're frustrated with most likely don't visit these forums.

honestly if I had my way I'd bar anyone under 18 from playing... but I know that won't happen. Nothing worse than mouthy kids trying to bark orders.Sgt.Smeg wrote:Hello, welcome to the forums.

I know it may not go away, sorry for the repeat thread. I just had to vent after last night in the TG server of all places.

Sorry to disappoint you but I'm twelve years old and I have a mic, nor do I waste assets, I play fair and follow commander/squad leader's orders where possible...

There really isn't as strong a correlation between age and maturity as you might think.Bainwalker wrote:honestly if I had my way I'd bar anyone under 18 from playing...

I know, it's more their voices annoy me. It's a small petty thing I have and I know it doesn't matter.Cpt. Trips wrote:There really isn't as strong a correlation between age and maturity as you might think.
I've seen some mature kids, they still bug me most of the time.
Age isn't the real issue anyways, it's people that don't play properly.

Maturity is something hardcoded.
Its not a formula like M(maturity) = A(age) + V(voice)
If so we could modify DNA with a notepad...

Although I have found many players under 18 who can play well, I would agree since it does increase the likelihood of maturity, even if the game is actually rated 16+honestly if I had my way I'd bar anyone under 18 from playing
Grin and bear it gentlemen and ladies, join servers you know are well admined. Try and become friends with your favourite server's operators, so that they know YOU are mature and trust a tard report from you to !k that tard fast.
You are in a minority mate, alot of younger players don't use mics so that their age is hidden from their squadmates. Being honest, I prefer a 18+ squad, it means I can swear and talk about **** I wouldn't talk about with...no offense...children.Sorry to disappoint you but I'm twelve years old and I have a mic, nor do I waste assets, I play fair and follow commander/squad leader's orders where possible...

I've never met a kid who hasn't claimed to be "mature" either

I think 16+ is fair as that is the age limit of the game anyway, I have noticed no difference in teamworking ability between 16-18 year olds and 18+ year olds. Although I suppose I'm not exactly objective in this matter considering that I am 16.

"Playing Culture"
Unfortunatly, games are not only defined by their rules, but also by their players.Bainwalker wrote:I know, it's more their voices annoy me. It's a small petty thing I have and I know it doesn't matter.

Well, I allmost fell out of my chair when I saw so many new servers having popped up and beeing actually filled up totally. However, I also noticed that there are more players without a microphone now, and that the level of teamplay has decreased. From time to time one gets into a top squad, but that seems to happen more seldom now.
I observed this effect in a hobby game (pbm strategy) I was involved as a developer: We also targetted the wrong audience and could not integrate the sheer numbers of new players into the community and its playing style. However, one must simply accept quantity usually comes with a lowering of quality.
Maybe the PR designers and developers are going to engage a public relations guy, who will target specific, more mature audiences the next time. Clearly, attracting vBF2 under 16 years can bring a lot of trouble, while getting players 25+ will certainly rise the gamplay standard here.
If I trust the statistics in our own forums here, approximatly 30% of the playerbase is over 25 years old, a lot more that in vBF2. Still, I do believe that age parameter might not be the only problem, but also the quick growth of the community. To battle this enemy I advise to emphasize the teamwork factor in the representation of PR even more. This could be done by putting a slogan on the installation procedure of PR, or use the in-game information/advertisement banner in the main menu. Possible slogans with pictures could be ( and please do not laugh at them because they are stupid examples...
* "Lonewolfing makes impotent"
* "Sniping can dangerous to Your health"
* "PR is no fun without teamplay"
* "Got Mic? No? Get one. Its cheap. Its good! Amazon..."
Another example would be extremely short tutorial videos, showing what is good for PR fun and what not: Make people realize that not the engine, but the type of gameplay is the most important fun factor for PR.
Training of new players is very important, otherwise the culture of PR gameplay that has evolved over many months now will be diluted and changed, most probably, for the worse. To overrate this effect might not be too good, however, to ignore it might be fatal. It is important to remember what made PR such a success: The availibility of a great set of rules (mod, developers, etc) and a crystalizing community that used them.

Re: Growing concerns with PR players.
There is a solution to stopping minge players; The down side is that it can also stop new players (New players being people that want to play it properly).
Its simply having all servers passworded, with the passwords on the forums.
I have seen this done before on TaconBanana serious role play on Gmod, and it was very effective. But like I said it also stops new people from getting into the game.
I know this would be a very unlikely method to put in place now, but it may be worth looking at if the problem with mingery gets too ridiculous.

All I know is, if I ever pay for a server again, it will only be for a passworded server. I would make sure that the password went out to all of the PR players myself or my clan mates know & trust.

Re: Growing concerns with PR players.
what could limit it as well as if every forum account had to be linked to an ingame account thus if cheating/acting noobish in the game, will lead to being banned from the forums thus losing all the PW's to all servers...sure people could still cheat and suck....but it would create more work for them. if PR really wanted to make some cash...charge like a $1 a month for the best TeamWork & PW'd servers....i would pay it gladly....just an idea....

In insurgency would you have fair treatement of civilians then?
but back on teh topic. i myself am 17 years young(i see what i did there) and i consider myself playing mature for around 3 years now. in all honesty, if you have people that are around the age of 16, i do not consider them the"kids" and they are alot of times decent team players. however its more or less topics like thseese, that scare potential good players away. actualy, you have to learn PR from a young age and then build up your skill but more importentdly you should be allowed as much of the fun as any other member of the community has while playing PR in a tactical/realistic/uberleet/epic manner. cause they have as much right to play it as do people from 40 or 50(going a bit over the top ther with the age but w/e)
Pr is for everyone, but i do agree that some of the "kids" are not fun to play with, and rather spoil a game then actualy go for the win. but we should not put this players on the same level because of there age, simply because thats not fair, for the people who want to do good,
(whoa that was alot longer then i wanted to.)

I know i'm only 14, but I'm mature enough to actually know how to follow orders and not be a complete retard ingame. It just annoys me when I get called a noob just because of my voice/age even though I'm probably more mature than the guy who even called me it.

If you can accurately guess someone's age based on a disembodied voice then you have a rare gift I think you should consider allowing biological science study closely.Dr2B Rudd wrote:Being honest, I prefer a 18+ squad, it means I can swear and talk about **** I wouldn't talk about with...no offense...children.
