Thats because a round of PR doing what you want is incredibly fun.

Even though teamwork is just as fun, its a challenge to make it happen.

The mob will always go for whats easier and faster and funner than what is funner, but contains more challenge.

PR is not really a teamwork mod anymore, with the influx of vanilla players its more of an alternative to BF2.

I just got off playing from 3 servers with a couple of random teams, and we all did a fine job mate.

You will feel like ur playing with vanilla noobs on certain servers at certain times, but all and all if you know which servers to play on with admins present, you will get a very nice squad with people who want to achieve many great things in a match.

NOBODY is able to request ANY kit aside from crewman or pilot at the start of the map for the first 10 minutes. After 10 min all kits are open. This would force to move soldiers out and actually do something.

I mean, how many times have you seen yourself be in position a flag ahead and you check your map to see 3 full squads JUST leaving main base.... it pisses me off.


ALTERNATIVE solution is for AAS.

NOBODY can request kit aside from crewman and pilot until first flag is captured. That would also force people to not screw around and actually help the team.


FINAL ALTERNATIVE, you cannot request a kit unless you get a positive score. Everybody starts off with zero, so nobody can request at the beginning, after you go with ur squad and actually do something, bam, you get some points, and you can now request a kit, like a reward.

All three are designed to help with gameplay by actually having team play and not wasting time with assets at main base, because players seem to have ADD and it takes a squad a full 5 minutes to get organized....

vBF2 has a lot of good qualities, there's a lot of fun things you can do in it; it was designed to be an entertaining and accessible game, not the military sim some people unreasonably expected it to be.

Uhh... I don't know about you but my scores go way through the roof when I am working with a squad that can handle two fire teams and flanking maneuvers with suppresive fire. I guess that real military tactic actually WORKING like its supposed to in PR is just a gameplay flaw?

Working with a squad is IMO a lot easier than being a lonewolf. 90% of the time a lonewolf walks around for like 10 minutes annnddd *drumroll* gets sniped or run over or blown up by a frag trap. Black screen for 30 seconds and repeat.

Yeah. Bit of a mistake there. Don't think people expected a military simulator from BF2, but some people took it too much as a realism game when the Developers have always said pure fun was their objective. See this vid for what people thought would be effective but isn't:

I've noticed the "vanilla" trend recently too (I'm not going to name servers but hey). As someone else said a handful of good players can turn things around and show the way.

I've found that people more often than not respond to voice commands issued with a firm but polite tone. Even if they don't understand everything around them you can get a squad of inexperienced players into something very efficient. The trick is to avoid shouting and insulting people who lack your understanding of the game. That's hard sometimes and I can't say I'm above uttering the word 'noob' but the results are usually worth the effort of being patient...

On the plus side I have to say most of the new players I meet seem to have voice, which makes it easier to convey some sense of duty and teamwork to them.

I think that the vanilla noob trend will just be a blip in the greater scheme of things and hopefully will settle down in due course. I really can't see PR becoming vanilla, i believe that this community is strong enough and unitied enough not to let that happen.

I know i've only been playing PR since 0.8 but i've come to enjoy PR the more i've played and the more i've interacted with the members of PR.

As someone else said PR is addictive and hopefully these vanilla members will get the bug like we all have.

Yeah I have seen this lately alot as well, It's sad because the teamwork is one of the things that makes this game unique.

Does anyone else feel the PR Advertisment on Vanilla BF2 Menu has started to fill the game with "Noobs"
Because I have began to notice that recently.
I mean I try and help them but their either to ignorant or they are too used to Vanilla and wanna just lonewolf, not follow/give squad orders,fly/drive vehicles alone, use vehicles they can't (Choppers/Jets)

It's kinda starting to annoy me, I think Server & server admins need to crack down on it

There is certainly some merit in the 'Vanilla noobs' scapegoat, but it's very general and includes people who aren't really that different to us when we first started playing PR.

PR itself isn't turning into vBF2, there's just a more noticable amount of clueless and selfish players that we associate with vBF2. They're unavoidable in most online public games, a price to pay for a larger playerbase.

It's pretty easy for people to disrupt the way PR is 'meant to be played' because the mod is designed around the expectation of an organised team, but at the same time it's far more rewarding to 'play it properly'.

You can lonewolf and see how far you get or you can try and work together and get more out of it, it's a fair choice.

Noobs just have to be helped a little and shown the rewards of playing the game how it is intended, those who reject that assistance should just be left alone unless they break server rules.

As a player you can't exactly dictate how others 'should' play the mod (beyond the developers design decisions and coding) without causing various futher issues.

So instead of this notion of tightly administrating the playerbase to the subjective point where it's so anal it's not even fun anymore, you can try and tolerate how other people play and offer guidance where appropriate for more rewarding gameplay.

What is this god given server where admins play through to the wee hours when someone takes their place?

I play on BigD, the biggest and pretty much only Australian server, we have an admin on 80% of the time but it doesn't mean they will boot anyone who they haven't seen before out of the server.

If i were you, i'd edit your post to say you may get a very nice squad.

Yeah i hate this too, I do best as squad leader cuz i know the ropes somewhat, i find i can follow a good squad leader but a noob squad leader i can't(example building for nothing nowwhere when we need to be attacking or defending). I end up going lone then. Its like all the good squads get filled up or are locked.

I want a home somewhere with mature good players i know will stick together and know how to play. Like those PRwar guys. Those guys kick ***, anyone one of them would make a good sl. Everytime i play if i see they on other team i know if i'm on a team of noobs were in for it.

I got a cousin bout to dl game after he gets his videocard in mail, he's a marine, a corporal stationed in san diego. Were both 32. He never played vanilla or project reality. But he's a trained killer i think he's gonna love this game.

Anyway i wanna get a group of guys together who know what it takes to win. If you sick of vanilla tactics and pretty good and want to make a clan send me a pm we can work on a name and all that good stuff.

I hate lone wolfing when i know im good at this game, it leaves me with feeling of disappointment.

Since PR won the mod of the year, EA games have done given a link on where to download PR from the vanilla web page.

So most vanilla players download and crash helis, solo tanks, waste sniper kits and so on

dtacs, i heard some issues with gameplay on BigD.

Try Hardcore servers, try Tactical Gamer, try texas team players, thsoe servers have admins on that really do try to have the teamplay go swell. Some of the admins split up and become squad leaders and keep their squads intact.

It just sounds like you were ranting about a few bad experiences, and alot of PR players by now have learned that you wont get a very good match alot of times due to the influx of vanilla noobs, this in turn does not mean that pr going down the drain mate, or that its going to turn into vanilla.

Summer is going to be a hair ripping experience for us PR vets since all the kiddies are out of school and will play the game massively. But as a DEV has already stated some time ago.... Noobs are hardcoded.

The new players will eventually learn, and things will settle down. Make friends on PR, i join squads with mates i know. Hell, be a SL, and force teamwork. There are things you can do to avoid vanilla noobishment.

People who use vanilla tactics end up losing normally. Bunny hopping makes you more visible as well as reducing your stamina and other such things. Lone wolfing means that medics cannot reach you much and you can get taking apart by a squad.
