Co.Pilot in Transport helicopters

Post by Elektro »

My idea is that a co.pilot in the same squad as the main pilot, can sit next to him in a Blackhawk, Huey, Lynx, MEC heli, and chineese heli < ( Sorry for not knowing the techical names ) The Co.Pilot can open and shut the doors, drop down supplies crates, and if the main pilot dies in the air the Co.Pilot can take over. I am not saying that it should be required to have one in every heli, but do so its possible.

I have many times thought about how nice it would be to shut those doors when flying over the middle of Ramiel.

From what I remember in previous suggestions of the same thing, the warm up time would have to go to allow a second player to take over control of the aircraft (even then, IIRC, they'd have to jump into seat 'F1' to be able to do so.

I'm no expert though, could be wrong, try a quick search for everything you've suggested.

I'd rather keep the crate control on the main pilot since sometimes there aren't enough people ingame to properly man a chopper with 2 guys constantly.

having a seond dude in ur chopper is usually very useful, apart from with teh LBs. This can be good for Recon, or manning the 50s.

But Doors may lag the choppers, like with the Merlin.

unfortunately its not really that practical either as due to the bf2 limit of 6 passengers to a vehicle if you included a co-pilot u wouldnt be able to pick up large squads

8 passengers to a vehicle are allowed.

This would be a good idea if it wern't for one, small, problem! There arn't enough infantry in PR as it is, adding a requirement to have a co pilot (I know you'll say it isn't a requirement, but dropping supply crates from helicopters is a vital logistic-life-saver) will just make there even less infantry.

mhh i know we had doors before i liked them.. nice and handy :P how about both seats have crate control? so IF tehre is a co-pilot he can drop it and the pilot can focus on getting the heli out safely and the co pilot wouldn't have to press f1 to pilot would it be possible to code it that if the f1 spot gets shot out the f2 spots can control the heli as irl helis and jets and so on have two sticks for exactly that purpose.. or make it so both can control it but they have to agree who is the pilot and who the abckup.. *ismellconflictsincockpit*

This is exactly what I teach with transport chopper squads. SL is NOT allowed to fly. (usually it's me because I'm either drunk or my computer is deciding to lag)

This would be a pointless change. Mainly because there happens to be a limit of 32 players on each side. Imagine Muttrah with 2 pilots for each chopper, thats getting on for half of the team if all of the helicopters are fully manned.

But also because the pilot can already do all of this on his own, theres no need for a co-pilot, especially as the main basis of your suggestion seems to be that the co-pilot can take over if the main pilot is killed, which is a very rare occurence, not to mention that it would be impossible to implement and keep the 30secs warm up time.

Without trying to be an Mod here, that was so useless. Try to be atleast a lil bit helpful?
Yeah wouldnt the only way to get this right would be have the co-pilot have instant warm up so when pilot dies you can instantly go, but then this would be exploited sooo much and would just be instant start choppers.

Irrelevant anyway:

a) How many times does the pilot actually get killed without the whole chopper going down as well?

b) It would take extra men away from the ground combat which is stupid and completely unnecessary

Therefore with those 2 things in mind what is the point in putting the effort in to make this work?

Have you ever flyed on baracuda ? it usually happens more than once a round that u get shot while flying.

this is in fact true, there are certain spots around the cockpit that arn't bullet proof, many a time i have been killed, but the heli was fine and just crashed to the ground.

Yep, it happens quite a lot. I was guarding a sniper and marksman in those rocks on the northwest of the island, and through my 'nocs I saw the attack Huey pilot (L4gi) get shot out of the cockpit and the heli go spiralling down to the ground.
About 15 minutes later I was flying along with Nightingale as the pilot to the beach in D/E4 when he was shot out and we went down. I attempted to jump out of the chopper with about 2 metres left to the ground but it didn't work and everyone was killed.

Both the pilots were on TS and while they found it annoying it wasn't something they hadn't experienced, in fact on Barracuda they'd both had it happen fairly often.

But for maps with carriers, 2 men to a heli would be an absolute nightmare and make the team's ground operations even less effective than they often are.
