Smoke grenade effect

Post by Tarantula »

Inspiration:

I was on Muttrah and my squad were pinned on the stairs of one of the buildings by a full enemy squad one floor up. I threw a smoke grenade into the room and heard one of them on mumble say "a smoke grenade, wtf?" they then proceeded to wait until the smoke had cleared and charge us in the doorway of their building.

Suggestion:

Could we get the effect that the gas grenade from Bf2 special forces has, lightned and on normal smoke grenades when you are within smoke for a certain amount of time.

Effects:

coughing noises, blurred vision and the sprint bar decreasing could be a cool effect if only done lightly and not overdone

Usage:

You could smoke people out of buildings, assault bunkers effectively but when running in open ground you wouldnt experience the effects becasue you wouldnt be stationary next to the smoke for very long.

if its possible could be very realistic.

That's a pretty good idea, its not that easy to see and breath inside huge smoke clouds.

I don't think this is a problem, and I don't think it's realistic to get those effects with just normal smoke grenades, is it? I mean unless you're going up to the thing and inhaling directly or if you're doing it in an enclosed (small) space I've never heard of it making people cough/distort their vision. They already accomplish their goal of visual concealment, which I take to be their only goal.

And then there's the fact that even if it is possible to smoke someone out of a small room with it, it's never used like that to my understanding, and the engine wouldn't distinguish between inhaling the fumes directly and walking through smoke in the field.

Its use would therefore turn from the smoke grenade that it is to the gas grenade that it isn't, and that in turn would mix up the tactics used by it.

As to what you described, it isn't a problem. You shouldn't be limiting yourself to the 60 seconds smoke screen to save yourself :p

If they could make it so it only produced the effect in inclosed areas like rooms it could be more realistic.
However i wouldnt think this would not be possible so thats how i came to the above conclusion.

Maybe not as intense as the special forces gas, but I kinda like the blurred vision idea. It would make 'flushing' people out of buildings more effective, but maybe that should be done with an actual tear gas grenade and not smoke.

I disagree with OP, unless som1 can provide sources to the contrary.

because the smoke effect is quite slow, the avatar would probably be able to put the goggles down to protect their eyes. A modified gas mask effect would be fun but it would take up a weapon slot

from my experience smoke should be very concentrated to damage eyes(not tear gas, this thing makes you cry like a baby in few seconds), you're more likely to start coughing but not so strong that you cant see anything around you

I don't see why some of the effects shouldn't be added if they exist to some extent though, the coughing thing at the least would be pretty awesome if the stuff really has that impact on people.

I can imagine a load of smoke in your mouth and eyes would be pretty unpleasant but I don't know if modifying the current smoke grenade would be worth it.

A new tear gas grenade of some kind for the specialist kit might be a good idea, not sure what people think of that, but atm the only people who seem to use the specialist are grapple enthusiasts.

OR alternatively throw you're phosperous grenade in...

I do like the Idea however, expecially the Cughing noises, blurred vision isn't really needed, tis smoke you can't see xD
