HunterMed has a point there... have seen it a couple of times.

Re: Let's discuss the trend towards less and less assets in maps.
I agree on some levels, but on more I believe that there is no current proper flag system in which a combined arms map makes actual sense. There needs to be different, more focused objectives with more leniency for the players' decision as a team rather than simply holding an area.HunterMed wrote:less vehicles ftw.
seriously with 32 guys on a team we dont need 4 tanks manned, 2 apcs, 2 planes manned, 2-4 helis manned and of course not to forget 10 guys waiting for the assets to spawn.
Whos gonna cap the flag?
Right... nobody.
IF there is a map like Kashan with so many vehicles there need to be fewer flags!
I agree completely,Colonelcool125 wrote:Those tunnels with a squad or two of buddies are the most fun in PR ever.

except for the fact that only happens on 2 maps... as you stated Kashan and Quin. Quin is the only one that has heavy problems with assets vs. amount of people on the team. You look at kashan and you can still have 2 infantry squads, and all the assets manned "well" for the team to win.HunterMed wrote:less vehicles ftw.

The point of this thread is not to say we want all assets on every map, we just want to see the maps Layered better.. 16p = infantry/light vehicles, 32p = apcs/attack helos, 64p = tanks/planes or something to that effect.

I wish people would stop going on about 8x8km, we have barely even begun to explore the potential of 4x4km, a fact that is aptly proven by:Sniper_dog14 wrote:8km*8km map
- The number of 4km maps currently in PR (Kashan and Quinling, one of which is now rarely played)
- The number of 4km maps currently in development (11/12 including maps of all varieties for AAS and insurgency and developed to a far higher level of detail than what we see on the only two 4km maps in PR atm)
Completely agree with your sentiments there Hunter.HunterMed wrote:less vehicles ftw.

Well if we will in the near(ish) future have 8-10 4km by 4km maps I think it would be neat to throw in 1 8*8 water + island + jet + helicopter + amphibious assault based map. We already know it can work (If you don't believe come play the map in the combined arms beta this weekend) and if people really don't like it then they can keep it out of there server rotation. The map is already made and now needs perfecting, and tweaking to make it appropriate for standard PR play.
It honestly can be alot of fun even for infantry. Picture it as a nice PR'fied version of wake island with 4 carriers, more jets and choppers and a better more PR friendly depiction of wake island. Note, all flags are on the island so theoretically one team could have total air superiority but not have control of the flags.
The downfall of Quinling is its lack of some sort of infantry friendly combat area.
Kashan is better featuring the bunkers but it is bad enough having a very low # of dominant resources (Attack helos and jets) where if one side loses both those vechicles and the other has even one up, the side w/o will typically get totally raped by that vehicle.
With seethed waters (that big island map) there are enough assets so that one side can't have care free air superiority as there are more assets enemy assets to be on guard for. Just come play this weekend

I miss the epic tank battles in EOD.
Now it's sucky MEC APC vs sucky STRYKER and 1 T72 which is usually down pretty quick.
But removing the Lynx on Basrah?

I'd like to see something like an airborne map. Like in old Battlefield 1942 where you'd spawn in the air with a parachute. Everyone likes cool things like helicopters, jumping out of planes, and airborne units. I could imagine all the fun stuff entailed in a map like that.

You know, I have to agree with you, if we are going the way of CODUO inf and land based vehicles, then why not just go back to CODUO and get the better engine.NyteMyre wrote:I miss the epic tank battles in EOD.

As it is, we are shutting off the training server in the morning and going to take it back to 8.5.
I think the assets should be up to the server admins and the clan and what it desires, not what is dictated to us. While we greatly appreciate what the DEVS do here, and I do, it's beginning to look like PR has left us behind, sad, but we feel left out now, the whole attraction to BF2 in the beginning was the fact that it was one more game other than BFV that had aircraft. Since 7.6 it appears that they are dissapearing.

Re: Let's discuss the trend towards less and less assets in maps.
Well I have to make an update on my previous comments, last night we did spend about 6 hours pounding the various maps, and the game play has improved. The maps are far less glitchy, and there is almost 0 lag even for those with lesser systems. Perhaps we are going to hang in here a while, it is nice not to have a crashed chopper running in your ear and it did seem more balanced

Re: Let's discuss the trend towards less and less assets in maps.
I would love to see some more servers running levels using the British Armed Forces. There are so few, with the exception of Al Basrah. I prefer Landies over Humvees (why are there so many types of Hummer, yet only 1 type of Land Rover anyway? Where's the Ambulance Land Rover for the medics to travel in? :\ ) which is the main reason.
