Re: pr turning into vanilla
I find myself using these lines at the start of a round more and more if I am leading a squad: "Welcome to the squad. Is anyone here new to the Project Reality Mod? Does everyone have a mic? *goes through mic check* etc and so forth...
People just need to be more welcoming. I know people just want to have a great match without holding a persons hand and training them as it could potentially be a burden. But, in the long run, you are contributing to mod in a very big way by getting a new player hooked and extending the life of the mod. Sort of the same thing that has kept Desert Combat for BF:1942 still going after so long.
Like someone said earlier... Today's newb is tomorrows vet.

Re: pr turning into vanilla
Yeah honestly we were all complete noobs once and unless you had clan connections you had to learn the game the hard way, which varied on how much the more experienced players would help you.
As long as i've played PR (since MM stage) there's always been groups of players who lock their squads and bash anyone they're unfamiliar with. I learnt a lot from the other experienced players that took on the challenge of leading a squad of randoms.
So as an experienced player nowdays you have to remember how it was to be a noob and what helped you get past it. Fortunately now we have a manual, extensive forum guides, training and singleplayer to smooth the transition.
We still need to try and deal with the smacktards (the real troublemakers) appropriately, just whilst acknowledging that there are a lot of decent new players who wouldn't be such noobs if they got our help.

When popularity grows, quality of the community sometimes suffers. It's true to every community to some extent, but especially to those, where certain rules have to be followed on sole player's responsibility.
I totally agree, noob today is a vet tomorrow. Let the new people familiarize themselves, understand that whatever is written in the manual and during game loading as tips should be taken more seriously.

I'll say it now and I'll say it again: If Ghandi played PR, he would teach us all that "You must be the change you wish to see in the server"
You have to be the one to guide the new people. Remember when you all first started playing PR? Remember (hopefully) that one or more people that helped you out when you needed it? Why can't you guys, instead of complaining about the 'noobs' currently being introduced to the game, take a little responsibility and teach them the ropes. Treat them like people, and they will treat you like a person in return by listening to you. Expecting to get a fix for this by complaining over and over and over is ridiculous and immature. For starters, you ARE the fix. You treat new people like rubbish? Guess what: YOU ARE GOING TO BE TREATED LIKE RUBBISH IN RETURN. Its a very simple concept and if you can't adapt to it you might as well leave now because Project Reality isn't going to get any better with people like you around.
What would you rather have as an alternate solution? A server policy that bans every new person to the server? You have a chance to build your community with all these new people. I bolded that because even though at times you might doubt it, everyone that plays PR minus the delightful singleplayer bots are human beings.
As I responded in another thread, give them a reason to be part of the team. Show them how fantastic the mod can be when you work together to accomplish something in-game. I know that's how I got hooked, it's probably how most of you did as well.
So get out there, and give these new guys a reason to be part of the team!

Re: pr turning into vanilla
I think all players are stupid, everyone here is stupid, im stupid.
Dont have an attitude that says "IM SMART" or "IM MATURE" makes me sick.
Be humble, in the end we all play this for one reason, to have fun.
Now, i have got a good system which will make this happend, basically, i want to use mumble and platoons to make that happend and organize it into ranks.
Il post it up tommorow night when i get home. But guys, be humble, dont say stuff that imply that your great, or special or better, or whatever. It is a really stupid attitude, and i couldnt care less about how you play your game, or how old you are, or how you lead your squad.
This problem is all putting people in boxes, and we humans have a tendency to put people in boxes, its how our social structure works.
So when you see a new guy in game, help him out. If you dont help him out, your just part of the problem.
I cant stress enough the fact that all humans are able to learn things, eventhough you want a smooth game, with no "noobs" thats really a stupid attitude, your attitude when playing the game should be, how can i make this game more comfortably for everyone else, if you keep playing the game in a egoistic manner, youll just end up sorry. But give to others and thou shall recive
So, all you mature and veteran players, if you want a great game, give to the new guys, make everyone else comfortably. If not, the community will be a really sour one, in which everyone has to follow the "status Quo" which is sad imo. You can make the difference!
YES WE CAN!

Re: pr turning into vanilla
Sometimes you get in a good team and have a good round, sometime you dont but overall, I believe the PR experience is still much better than the vBF2 one most of the time. I have been playing PR for years now and I cant play vBF2 anymore. On vBF2, there isnt only one in ten guy being a lonewolf, the entire team are lonewolves...
On PR, a lot of people can use in-game VOIP, they can coordinate with other squad with in-game chat, a lot of squad work as a team and firefight are much better than vBF2 and we can use realistic tactics such as fireteams, flanking, supressing, etc.
Yesterday night I was playing on the =QTF= public server as USMC on Barracuda and we had a very nice experience using CAS vs ennemy infantry in the jungle

The only problem with that is that vetern PR players know which server has great and active admins and doesn't allow bs like that. Those servers are always full.Sgt. Mahi wrote:I recommend that you start playing on other servers that doesn't allow stuff like that to happen. T&T and ukwarfare have many active admins playing and they are often very strict.

Re: pr turning into vanilla
Alright this is starting to be a "beating a dead horse" thread. And now the insult are starting to fly, way off target guys.
Basic fact:
- Are we getting more and more vbf2 players? Yes
- Are they feeling not welcomed? yes
- Are the elitist PR player not helping? Yes
- Is the average PR player not helping? No
- Is the current players both the problem and the solutions? Yes
Deal with it guys, you only have yourselves to blame when a not asshat comes to PR and ends up being a asshat. There are plenty of recurring advice dealing with new players. I suggest you read the last few pages of text and take with it what you will. If you feel you still dont owe anything to the community look into private games.
Thread closed as nothing good is coming out of it. As always if you feel you have something to add to the thread please PM a MOD as they will listen to all requests.
