the suit isn't only for blending in with a texture, it's there to break up your silhouette. most maps have patches of darker ground of some dark tree/bush that makes the sniper harder to see up close (and through binoculars that render their camo).Jonny wrote:The point was that the guille texture could be different for each map, so making absolutely sure it blends in as well as it possibly can. Ie, greens on grassy maps, brown/yellows on desert maps.

+1 I play airsoft too and am a as "sniper" well ghilliesuits are nice and all IRL but this is still a game...Cheditor wrote:I reguarly do airsoft and these ghillie suits normally dont do that well. These only work in certain areas. The 3D ghillie suits are much more effective as they work in most placed. They consist of a normaly BDU uniform but with bits of fabric sown on in triangle shapes. A guy was right infront of me and untill he moved i didnt know he was there.

This sounds weird, but think about it: Isn't it possible to attach an overgrowth "sniper blanket" as a child object to the sniperrifle that only shows when you zoom in?
I figured you can only really use the sniperrifle when prone, yeah? And if you attach the overgrowth sniper blanker to the sniperkit, it shows all the time and may even look terrible. Attaching it to the sniperrifle when zoomed in (if possible?), then it *could* look pretty good.

Not very realistic that you only get camoflauge if you zoom in...
Would cause lag too.

It's not very unrealistic either. When you're zoomed in, you are prone and not moving. A sniper in real life sometimes uses a ghilly suit or special blanket to cover himself with. He's only using a special blanket when he's what? In position: prona, usually.Royal_marine_machine wrote:Not very realistic that you only get camoflauge if you zoom in...

When does the game think you're in position? Prone and zoomed in. The "zoomed in" phase is, of course, only for the game to know when to put the overgrowth blanket on.
And how would that cause lag? It's a piece of overgrowth that's sitting still and not doing anything. It's a child object to the sniper rifle. There are many, many child objects in-game, not causing lag, so I really don't see why this should cause any.

Anyways I think putting it on chinese maps is quite logical, so leave it at that for now, and if it does get implemented move forward on other maps, I just don't want this to be another "ZOMGLEETPWNZORSNAIPURRRR DERP DERP"

Really, I think that adding the ghillie suit back would not destroy the universe.
But at least there isn't a new thread every week going
"omg I was in the grass, he could not have seen me, it was like that CoD4 misshun"
Right now you have to be super careful, using logs or bushes etc to hide urself, or barely poking over a hill/rock and I think that is desireable behaviour.

I will not let this thread die! It is valid, and it wouldn't be hard to re texture the suit a bit to make it in tune with the Chinese environment

GL texturing I'd say, because I don't think the DEV's will put time into such project.

It shouldn't be that hard to implement, and the way snipers work in PR it would help, and since they don't do squad level sniping, they generally work on their own or with their spotter.

Re: The Ghillie Suit
If a sniper is working on his own he shouldnt be using a high valuable kit then. If hes working with another sniper fine atleast he has another set of eyes open. But on muttrah yesterday in an APC we killed 3 snipers working on their own, we snuck up to them in an APC, kind of definite proof you need another set of eyes to watch for you.
