Most popular BF2 mods
What are the most popular bf2 mods right now? PR has to be one of them. Black Sand Studio has a ton of 'em. BF2 assault, eve of destruction, op peacekeeper, and US intervention just to name a few. AIX 2 maybe? you tell me.

Re: Most popular BF2 mods
Servers playing BattleField 2 | Server / Player Search | Game-Monitor.com :: Server Search, Monitoring, Stats and more
Go there, select a mod from the drop down list called Mod/Expansion then hit search.
It doesn't have all the BF2 mods but it has most of the main ones that people play/ed.
Bottom line is that Project Reality is the only populated BF2 mod, the others are barely played by comparison.

In order of highest popularity to lowest based on this week's average players.
Project Reality
FH2
POE2
Past that the averages are too low to really look at...

Re: Most popular BF2 mods
I'm not sure where Rhino gets his weekly averages from but right now (a relatively quiet time) I see:
- 290 on PR
- 5 on FH2
- 1 on POE2
FH2 seems to be developing an entire European theater of war at the moment so when that's released they might regain a player base: http://forgottenhope.warumdarum.de/main.php?lang=english
POE2 development has apparently ceased: http://www.pointofexistence.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18961
They both had a decent amount of players in their heyday though, as well as DCon, USI and CQB.

It's not that simple because:naykon wrote:BF2's an old game now, theres really only PR worth playing
1. If you base it on the age of BF2 you're ignoring half life which came out in November 1998, it's most popular mod Counter-Strike (yes I know it's official now) still has more players then any other online shooter.
2. How much you like a mod is subjective, but based on quality mods like FH2 and POE2 are definitely worth trying.
People tend to play what other people play, so based on that it's more likely someone will bother to download PR instead of another mod which has relatively little players.
Still doesn't explain why the other mods lost most of their popularity and PR survived.
Fair enough. FH2 is one of the more similar BF2 mods to PR in that it's trying to be fairly realistic and the devs pay a lot of attention to detail.naykon wrote:i tried FH2, but i just found myself wishing it was PR with WW2 weapons

Pr survived because it offers some thing you can't get any where else.

Don´t forget AIX, every single time I go on there is a server almost full to 44 players and another couple occupied quite a bit.

I must say, FH 2 is worth it, The vehicles the weapons the maps, everything is detailed to the max.
They make different statics for every map they make and have very good references and information on how and what.
In terms of quality it is one of the better BF2 mods out there, and offers realism but on a different way PR does.

Forgotten Hope 2 is a good mod it isnt PR but its worth playing. There is only one server that I found that is ever populated.

Re: Most popular BF2 mods
All the other mods feel so boring after playing PR. The gameplay is so unique, versatile and teamwork oriented.
FH 2 got very nice looks but gameplay isn't anything new really. FH 1 was lot more fun, better engine for massive WW2 fights IMO.
OPK, EOD and CQB are fine mods too, but I don't find them very interesting anymore cos PR is just so much better.

FH2 is currently working on a Normandy campaign which is pretty exciting. I really like FH2 and hope that the players stay with it.

I'm sure to check out FH2 once the normandy content goes live, the screenshots look quite impressive!
Somehow I'm not really a sand rat so the current FH2 aint my thingy though.

BF2 might be an old game but still in the top 10 most played game every day according to Xfire: Xfire - Gaming Simplified Will EA ever learn from this and stop releasing more and more crappy bf games like bf heroes, bfbc, etc. ? Time will tell.
PR is the best mod of course

FH2 and AIX are really good and fun. Servers aren't as easy to find as PR however. AIX single player is awesome though.

Re: Most popular BF2 mods
I use to play POE2 before I came to PR. I liked the mod backed then but PR was far too much better to be bother to continue to play POE2 as they generally were sort of the same except for key game-play factors and realism factors. PR was just way ahead of the mod.
I tried FH2. Would be great because it would be different than PR however I hated the game-play. That's just me however. However what also made me disfavor the mod was the fact they told me to piss off when I suggested adding Canada as a playable country. I tried making a point that nobody ever bothered to add Canada in any military game which is crazy for WW1 and WW2 games as Canada was a major part of both of them.
We served the British but were seperate at the same time. We had our own uniforms, etc. I am sure FH1 was popular in it's day of BF 1942 but with Project Reality I don't see why people would be bothering keeping those mods as active. I am sure they got there activity and popularity but I can't see any of them coming close to PR.
Any other mods would have to be Single Player mods.
