Stamina suggestion
Hi
Since I personally think the stamina bar still need some work I decided to make a suggestion. I don't know if it's possible to do but here it is...
We all tried having no sprint left when you really need it and there have been some debate about a short adrenalin boost when your under fire even if you have been running like a crazy man before the encounter.
My suggestion is the following (if possible)
When you are empty on stamina make the stamina raise to the point where you are able to sprint again on very short time. Then make a delay on the rest of the stamina. A delay that would be the same as if the stamina was going up as normal.
To prevent abuse of this you could make it so it only does this one time per life. If you use it once, you can only use it again after respawn.
I'm not sure if I make myself clear since my language isn't english. Questions?? Thoughts??

I dont think this is possible with the BF2 engine. But if so, this would be cool.

Been suggested before.
If you have a problem with always being low on stamina there is an easy fix.
STOP SPRINTING! Only do it in combat.

Re: Stamina suggestion
Yeah I've encountered this on occasion. It's mainly because I wanted to back to the action within a reasonable amount of time (usually because either my SL didn't bother setting up a RP or it got overrun).
There's an argument for maybe increasing stamina so players don't have to spend ages traveling across the map, but then you get the unrealistic issues of players endlessly sprinting all over the place like Olympic athletes in order to avoid fire.
I think this would be a better argument for a changing the forward spawning system to be more consistent, rather than messing with character stamina.
(And AFAIK, the BF2 engine doesn't support what Sgt. Mahi is suggesting.)

The stamina is fine. Changing it won't affect a thing, if the travel time should be reduced the stamina should be increased alot. Why be in such a hurry when gaming, "everything has to happen NOW and not later."

While I do agree that if you are constantly out of stamina, you need to lay off the shift key, but I also understand that when you have to run halfway across the map, you can't help it.
I don't think this can really be added into the game, but it seems like a good idea. Taking cover is also a good idea. I have seen people start getting shot at to watch them sprint away to the other side of the city, when there was more than plenty cover 10 meters from them. I think the boost would be better to use a a "Get to cover quick" tool.

Yeah it's a bad idea IMO--I never liked that in vanilla players could sprint over huge distances and sprint continuously (i.e. never slow down) to reduce their chances of getting hit).GoreZiad wrote:The stamina is fine. Sprinting is for getting from cover to cover and nothing more..unless you're an Olympic athlete doing the 100-meter dash.
I agree PR should definitely not be about running around like Rambo shooting everything that moves, but the problem is that not everybody has hours and hours to dedicate to gaming--most have maybe an hour a day after work, and they don't want to spend most of that hour just traveling from A to B.GoreZiad wrote:Why be in such a hurry when gaming, "everything has to happen NOW and not later."
PR is ultimately a game, not a military simulation. Good games are meant to be a fun, stimulating challenge, not an exercise in tedium.
Realism without the tedium of reality is what games like PR are, or at least should be about IMO.
But I'm deviating quite a bit from the OP now.

I do think if your out of stamina you should stop and find cover, but right now jumping takes out half your stamina bar, which is a bit ridiculous. Yeah but resuggestion and hardcoded mate sorry

That is right. But it isn't much time you save by sprinting instead of jogging. It's like in traffic where a guy rushes past you, only to stop for red lights 200 meters ahead.sickly wrote:the problem is that not everybody has hours and hours to dedicate to gaming--most have maybe an hour a day after work, and they don't want to spend most of that hour just traveling from A to B.

Re: Stamina suggestion
Ideally, your SL should be placing RPs at strategic locations, maing sure that they don't get overrun/destroyed, but there's always some lone wolf hiding nearby (especially on forest maps) that sees you place it or figures out where it is as you spawn there and destroys it when you're not looking). Then that means that because of that one guy you have to travel all they way back from your base, which means that by the time you get there, you CP has been capped.GoreZiad wrote:That is right. But it isn't much time you save by sprinting instead of jogging.
I suppose a simple solution would be to make the Rally Point completely indestructible, meaning that you don't have to worry about lone wolfs sprinting in the moment you leave and destroying it.
Personally, I would just make it impossible to remove RPs at all, except by capturing the nearest CP. That way players are forced to fight for CPs rather than just avoiding the enemy squad and quietly overrunning their RP--which is highly unrealistic and unsporting IMO.
This may seem a bit much but IMO the penalty for losing your RP and having to spawn at base is disproportionate to the "mistake" of not keeping an eye out for a few guys who prefer to sneak around clearing spawnpoints than fighting.
As I said, people play this mod to be challenged in realistic combat (i.e. what they couldn't get from vanilla BF2), not waste time babysitting kiddies who mistake PR for vBF2--or spend a lot of time taking the scenic route back to the action for not doing so.
That said, I would increase stamina a bit so that people can get across open areas with less risk; in RL, those large expanses might just be considered impassable because they are too dangerous; RL advancement is frequently slow and tedious, even when your side has superior firepower. In a game, some liberties must be taken to maintain fluid play.
Ideally, character stamina would be reduced to zero when hit, so as to prevent the player from exploiting the BF2 physics by sprint insta-zig-zagging across open areas to avoid being hit again (...and again and again
Heh, heh. Yeah I always get a chuckle from that.GoreZiad wrote:It's like in traffic where a guy rushes past you, only to stop for red lights 200 meters ahead.
