It's that time of the year again

Post by NyteMyre »

IT'S GETTING HOT OUTSIDE !!! (and inside)...

Just came back from the beach and wanted to play a quick round of PR before dinner....
Not even 5 minutes into the game and my FPS drops below 5fps and my computer starts beeping like crazy.

Current temperature Graphic Processor: 100°C

DAMNIT....

Quickly I quit the game, and opened my case to let it cool down.
Guess my PC has some internal warning system that I shouldn't play games and should go outside.

-edit-
my comp is not overclocked, i'm just in the hottest room of the house i guess

haha.
i have a small, small table fan under the desk. if i want to play when it's warm i open the case and point the fan at the gpu. but i live 6 breezy floors up so with open window and a big fan on the other side of the room, i get pretty good circulation.

26ºC and sun today.

I Have some nice Neon and UV lights.

It really is a nice bit of work inside my case. Can't see many cables and the lights are multi coloured and bright. It looks really cool when I take out on the road for a DJing gig.

Also I want to add. That I don't do any over clocking. I Build my PC's to last. And that there is only 3 fans installed on my PC. 1 on the CPU, 1 on the PSU and 1 on the GFX card. So my PC is very VERY quiet. I Can not hear it at night when I go to sleep and the PC is in the same room in my flat. And I do run my PC 24/7 because when I sleep I let my PC run the SETI@Home software with BOINC. No instability issues at all. I Can just get up and walk away and when I come back the PC is in the same state I left it in (Maybe the screen saver is running).

This thing never over heats. It's just to good for that. I Play PR at the Res of 1600x1200x8AA with V-Sync on. FPS is about 98/99.

Oh and here is video with out all the extra lights.

Using a thermaltake water cooling system my pc tops out at 33 C under full load....at any time of the year. Best investment I ever made.

You got that rig 'on the cheap'?...by that do you mean you raided OCUK's warehouse?

Bit of work done for this guy, and a bit of work for that guy. Got me this PC. It has taken a very long time to get it like this.

When I am using my PC for PR and mapping, my room is like a sauna. At night I have all windows open, strip to my boxers, and pass out on top of my bed with no sheets... just too d**n hot!!

Maybe you should consider the fact that you need some new hardware then... Sounds like some of the things is slowly dying :? ??:

Air conditioning does wonders for keeping a persons house at a nice comfortable 72°F or ~22°C

Today 95°F/35°C outside but I know what temperature it will be inside...

Heh that overheating was almost an issue many years ago, but thanks to global warming, the summers here are starting to get freezing.

Many years ago it was +20...+25 these times but nowadays +15 is almost the max. Atm its +2 (night) so no worries for my processor :D

If your card is going near 70+ deg at any time you need to sort it out or its going to damage it in the long run. Clean it for dust first and make sure there is a good airflow in your pc, opening the sides up can disrupt the airflow and make it hotter. also think about buying a new cpu cooler, I run a default nvida one and it idles around 50, I know if i get a decent one it could knock 20 degs off that easily.

My rooms been summer temperature since January thanks to my new monitor that gives off so much heat! But seriously, your going to need some more fans, with filters, make sure there is no dust in your pc, if it is over heating. And its not crammed in some size sided hide out.

Make sure you have a air flow under it, by raising it on either side, I used to do it using a couple of DvD cases each side, you can buy proper things to raise them, this will greatly increase the cooling capacity. Cleaning out dust is hard on a laptop, but very helpful also.

wow, that case will make alot of noise...

Anyway, i decided to clean my case...and i think found the cause.
A big layer of dust on my cooling rods on my graphic cards and a think layer of dust between my fans....

it helped to lower it around 40 degrees celcius
