Joystick for chopper

Post by blackpulpit »

Can i use a joystick for flying the choppers, i have a joystick and if its possible could someone tell me how i need to set it up to use for the chopper, what do i need to change in game (options area). I fly a flight simulator so i already have it ready to go and i was curious if it could be used for the choppers, thanks all.

Just go to the controls options and then select the helicopter. Then you click on each individual control ie move forward, and then move the joystick in that direction. The game then maps that joystick movement into the controls and ... voula .... you flying with joystick ;)

Ye same I only fly planes with my joystick. and the only chopper i really fly is the MH-6 (Littlebird) as thats just a bad *** chopper that can turn really fast which is a must have for a chopper for me. Im **** when it comes to attack choppers ect.

For planes a joystick is a must have. You cant get any thing like as good accruacy without one.

EDIT: for choppers i fly with k/b only.

I can't for my life fly a chopper with the keyboard!!!

Thats just a nono. I think you can do better with a joystick in a chopper than with the keyboard.

I don't get the statement "There's things you cant do in a helo with a joystick".

As long as you have a joystick with a pov-hat, a twisthandle and a throttle slider you're gonna be fine.

my joystick isnt made for choppers, its made for bad *** planes.

the seprate throttle and twist works perfect for planes, but when you want to keep on switching real fast for the LB it isnt very pratical.

Well I have flown in a transport chopper with Azn. He uses a joystick and was able to fly perfectly and keep in a beautiful hover. I was able to rack up 17 kills on mashtuur in the PKM of the mi-17.

Saitek Cyborg Evo

If you are going to get any joystick, or game pad, or stearing whell. Go for saitek.

No no, go Logitech. My recommendation is a Logitech Freedom 2.4 Cordless Joystick. Picture

actually no, i would in fact recommend against the logitech. I've been using the exact model mentioned above for 2 years and several things come in mind. One is that you cannot adjust the stick's dimension, i managed to get around it but it's not very comfortable. Second is that the stick's centre becomes loose over time and mine now has difficulty keeping a centered sight. My stick also used to get stuck in z rotation (the rudder twist handle) but i managed to sort it out after i took it apart and reassemble it. It could also be that it's starting to show it's age, but overall i think saitek is better.

PS: let's not get started on how many times i died in BF2 because the battery in the joystick is low and it's not transmitting signal properly.

I guess it's a matter of taste. I've had that exact model for several years too now but I still love it. The thrust-handle has become a little loose on later days but thats just age wear.

I don't really know what you mean by the joysticks "dimension".

Personally I would not recommend the saitek joysticks. They just don't feel good in your hand. There might be other saiteks that I don't know about though, that has a better layout and a nicer shaped grip.

i agree i have used Logitech my whole, well BF carreer. SO yea i would go with that,

and to add on to the previous discussion i think joysticks are perfect for heli's, especially if u have corresponding rudder footpads to go with it, makes flying the heli a hell of a lot more easier, at least for me,

i wouldn't consider myself an awesome copter pilot, but i would say i do pretty damn good,

but thats just one guy's opinion

My 2 pence:

I just got my stick two days ago and been playing with it, flying around in jets on empty servers. It took a little to get used to it and I'm still not as 'confident' with it as with a mouse, but I DEFFINATELY recommend it. It allows to to maneuver the jets so much faster and easier and dogfighting becomes so much better. The only down side is, compared to mouse control, bombing is tougher for me and lining up targets in general. With time though, I think that will get easier. In short, for flying jets, a joystick is an absolute must-have.

Choppers though... Still keyboard and mouse.

Saitke pawn logitech in relibality, comfot ect when it comes to sticks, game pads and whells by a long, long way.

Logitech dont even have a stick with a seprate throttle and stick, where Saitek have a whole range with the newist being the X52, but before that there was the X45, and a bunch of old 1s they dont display on there site anymore.

Logitech are very good for mice thou, Saitke have only started going into gameing mice.

I use the mouse for flying chopper, and joystick for flying planes. Much easier in my eyes.
