The AT is ANTITANK! not ANTIPERSONAL!
Seriously, you are there for taking out vehicles, not suicide pistol missions and 10 foot rocket launches someone in front of you!
And please don't give me "well they use rockets in real life to kill people" they use RPGs my friend, cheap run of the mil RPGs, they don't use expensive hard high technology special purpose anti-tank rockets.

Well I know if im AT and some Assualt dude runs at me, im gonna put a rocket in his face. Using the pistol is about as effective as throwing dust at the enemy.

if your the US it might simply be the 9mm, Marines right now in Iraq are complaining about the 9mm not going through body armor and the enemy still coming at them after several rounds.
From real close range I see guys in the mod take down enemies all the time, you simply have to hit the guy....and with insta-prone in the game all they do is dive to the ground and send out more rounds faster thus the pistol have touble hitting.
The problem is the one man rambow style player, if the at guy was in a squad he would have to use the pistol only rare situations. That is if that squad was working together.

Stay with your squad and you won't need to shoot infantry. The pistol is lethal if you hit them before they notice, and if you stick with your squad you've got a good chance of not being the first target on their list. I never use the rocket for killing personnel purely because I know how annoying it is. One hit, one kill, you can't even be revived. It's cheap and simple, it shouldn't be done.

In the real life, the taxpayers pay all the stuff, and someone are to be responsible for this. And he kick your *** when you shot a rocket, that cost some grand, to kill a only guy...
But in the BF2 engine all ammo are free...
p.s. i hate the guy who make a long range shot to kill one, but in a dogfight with the RL on the shoulder you are quicker than a switch to the feeble pistol...

But you must agree, they working fine as anti personal.
They slow and if you jump you not die from it. I can see the conflict with the goal to make it a
realism mod. Fix it in some way maybe make them only hitting materials used by vehicles. Thats also not realistic but might come closer to the goal.

You could just make the AT rocket ineffective against Infantry. Its realism at the same time as not being realistic. One would never fire, as mentioned above, an expensive, purpose-built missile at one infantryman but the game mechanics don't really allow that to happen.
Desert Combat for example, the Stinger in earlier betas was used as a Sniper rifle (much like the AT missile now) but in later versions caused no damage at all to Infantryman, only aerial vehicles.

give the rocket 0 spash damage and a tiny (but powerful) blast area. - hitting a tank would be the same as usual, but hitting the ground by a person wouldn't be as effective.
if someone hits you dead on with a rocket, they deserve the kill.

This is a rather tough nut to crack in my opinion. You hate the fact that it is used as an anti-personnel weapon. Fair enough, I agree. It's rather disturbing.
One solution is the following: I don't remember if it was in vBF1942 or in DC they did this, but they actually made rockets to not collide with infantry at all. Flew straight through a soldier. I really hated this. It just didnt feel right.
Making the rockets hit, but not cause death is another solution,
allthough I don't really like that either. If you take a rocket in your face you should go down and thats the end of it.
What it comes down to in the end is that you need a good balance between Realism, "N00bTube-agony" and Effectiveness of the AT Class Soldier. Perhaps making rockets just cause half-health damage to infantry and to weigh it up, making the handgun a little (maybe 25 %) more powerful, otherwise noone will play the AT class.

I don't see the problem TBH... The AT guy has a weapon, if he choses to use it against people, so what. He only gets 3 rounds, then he's left with his pistol, till he can re-arm. The rocket is slow and can't turn too well, so if you see it coming, it's not too hard to avoid.
At the end of the day, I don't think ANYONE goes AT specifically to kill infantry, but if you're AT and you have the chance to take out an enemy, you're going to take that chance, just like anyone else would.
Why would you want to limit a weapon to only being able to kill certain things? That would be unrealistic and boring. You say that in real life, a soldier wouldn't use the AT rocket to kill an enemy soldier, but if an enemy sniper (for example) were firing on him and he had the chance to take out that sniper using the AT, I think he'd value his own life over the expense of one rocket...

The AT rockets are abused by several of the people in this thread I can tell. Whoever's argument is 'it's easier to shoot with the rocket than switch to the pistol' is a load or rubbish. Your slot 3 weapon is your primary weapon, and for the AT soldier it's your pistol. You should only take your rocket out in extreme circumstances such as when you see a vehicle you wish to engage. The rest of the time you should be crouching around with your pistol in escort of your squad. The weapon I use most as AT is my binoculars, that's the most use I am to the squad until I see a vehicle I can engage.
The AT rocket is currently realistic, there's no reason why some foolish system to make it weaker or less powerful against infantry should come into action. Currently they have a tiny splash damage, but when you're running head on at someone with it it's very simple just to pull the trigger and hit them dead on. You can't dodge those things unless you know they're coming, and even so you'd need to do a lame prone dive to do so.
My solution? Make infantry kills with AT rocket show up and give the user negative points for missing with a rocket.

Alternatively, make rocket ammo only obtainable from the UAV trailer just like tanks, and give them only two rockets in total. And yeah, don't give them an SMG. Ever.

AT rockets don't do that. They're designed to release their explosive charge into one concentrated area for maximum damage. The missile itself penetrates the surface with the shear force of the rocket then the explosive explodes on that point. They don't have much splash damage and this shouldn't be added. Maybe point blank missile users won't be so tempted to use it, but just imagine a guy on a rooftop firing them at squads working in tight formations. 6 kills for the price of one.

how about this-Usually When I get ATed, it is when I surprise an AT guy around a corner and he fires away in self defence. IRL one wouldnt be able to fire an AT rocket whilst moving, so can this be coded? If the guy is standing still, he will be an easy target for any regular weapon. he would only be able to fire the at while still. 75% of the time, if he is standing still, he will get mowed down by any person decent with the assault rifle.
