The RHIB's
Is anyone ever gonna upgrade/modify those sorry things?
Standard BF2 RHIB's suck.
A chain gun (like in the BlackHawk on Kashan) mounted on it would be pretty sweet, if not a chain gun than how bout 2-3 LMG's? It's more real world than that weak old single LMG.
Id love to hear some DEV's POV on this.

Re: The RHIB's
firstly, there are no maps with boats being such a important asset that it Warrants time on it, also to be realistic they would need to models rather than just sticking guns onto the poor current model

Re: The RHIB's
Idk man. Think of Tad Sae or Bi Ming, or even of Op. Barracuda.
I agree that they would have to re-model it, but it really would be worth it.
Unfortuantely because of the lack of effectiveness of the standard model, no one takes them serious enough to seriously use them as an asset.
But they CAN be an asset, if treated and modeled as one.

I'm with doug, make them a bit more durable at least, The one thing bf2 lacks is the ability to battle on open water effectively

I'd like to see if you can find any information about a minigun being fitted to a RHIB, cause I doubt you'll find anything, neither will you find 2-3 M249's fitted on it.KarateDoug wrote:Is anyone ever gonna upgrade/modify those sorry things?

In real life the RHIB either has a M2 or M249 on the front and a Mk-19 on the back.

Re: The RHIB's
What we need is a new model. The currently existing one is far too flimsy and unprotected.

If the RHIB is not to be replaced, the least that could be done is to have the soldiers inside animated to be laying down. This is far better than having them kneel all the time.

You have no idea how many times I've sniped guys just kneeling there in the boat...M.Warren wrote:What we need is a new model. The currently existing one is far too flimsy and unprotected.

Re: The RHIB's
Been suggested before and I think they said its on the list but not a top priority, I don't find it that big of a deal I have only really used the boats once for combat purposing by patrolling the river on kvalley. I guess it could be cool to have a few more guns and some more armor.

Re: The RHIB's
I know this isnt a Navy branch game but The navy seal version sometimes has a chain gun mounted on the front. On other version Ive seen a 50 on the front plus 2 on the sides.Snowno wrote:I'd like to see if you can find any information about a minigun being fitted to a RHIB, cause I doubt you'll find anything, neither will you find 2-3 M249's fitted on it.

Indeed a new model is needed. Indeed it needs more speed and absolutely it needs more protection.
But the question remains. Will someone actually take their time to do such a thing. The RHIB CAN BE AN ASSET. Just needs to be treated as such and the standard model is not gonna make that possible.

Re: The RHIB's
The real reason it isn't an asset at the moment is because it is too easy to kill and it only has an LMG. If it was indeed fast, better armed and armoured it would become a valuable asset indeed. You could use it to clear the beaches for heli landings on Barracuda and Muttrah etc. MMMMMKKKK111199999

What would be great would be a proper landing boat with a ramp, and when you jump out you would hop out inside the boat, so you can do amazing beach landings :O .....

Re: The RHIB's
I think the current RHIB could be upgraded for british maps, I have no idea what Americans use.
But the latest RHIBs are uparmoured, with a kind of skirt on the inside. I'll find a pic later, my internet is pretty fail. Its on the mod.uk website. My point is that the armoured piece could be added as a child object without reimporting the complete boat right?
I'd love the boats to get love, but tbh...they are just a sideshow atm. Only 3 maps have them as battle winners, thats Bi Ming, Barra 16 and Tad Sae

Re: The RHIB's
Boats are a vicious circle, in that there are no maps that incorporate boats properly because the boats are lame and no one is going to spend time making a new, non-lame boat because no maps incorporate boats properly.
Not sure what can be done about this, other than designing a marine map and new boat at the same time.
